i was about .. like really really ready to give up in painting.. cause I can't really get it.. But I love to draw.. I just can't color it with watercolor or other paint.. until I saw your videos and my gosh.. I took back my materials and thought about not giving up.. I will ptactice hard until I can be better.. gosh.. I'm about to cry.. why did I ever thought of giving up.. i'm sorry.. you are amazing.. you're an inspiration..
Yeole-Chan I'm no artist now, but I was when I was little and a bit into my teen years. I gave it up and there's nothing I regret more than that. You see so much progress in so little time if you stick to it. Please don't give up.
DirKann I gave up alot to between drawing coloring and painting I just got back to it all to recently and yes the more u practice the better epically with my drawing is wear I'm having trouble I'm not good with people I'll just keep practicing any tips on drawing people and painting with acrylic paint
i really appreciate that you openly share your techniques and processes. it really helps me understand and inspires me to create my own works. thank you!
the problem of using too much water to thin the paint is that it breaks up the properties of the acrylics. On the other hand, the retarders contain the the binding agents used on acrylics making a stronger paint
any fluid medium or a slow-dry blending medium if you don't want the paint to dry too quickly. It's ok to use some water to make acrylics flow, but only to soften the paint but if you want to use acrylics as in watercolors, you should definitely use the mediums instead of just water.
I had to pause the video for a moment when you talked about being mixed race and painting a Filipino girl as a reference and I just gotta say that it made me smile and my heart warm. I’m half Filipino, nobody can really tell what I am or they just assume I’m one thing and it just feels really nice to have someone painting things like this and who understands 😊 I absolutely admire your work
I'm also biracial and I draw and paint too, and I have to say that as soon as I heard you talk about how you want that in your artwork. . . . well it just made my day (people always think I'm a different nationality too lol I try to take it as a compliment). I try for that too in my art and as soon as I saw this painting I thought she was breathtaking. Thanks so much for uploading this.
I have a great solution to the gold paint problem you experienced on paper. I found a water based painted called precious metals and it works wonderfully on absorbing surfaces. The golds are really nice and I've use it in sketchbooks and watercolor paper too. Purchased it at Hobby Lobby. Love how this painting came out and your process!
I love how you put together different ethnicities in your paintings. It brings so much for fun and pop into the beauty of art. Everything was so well done and I LOVED it. Bringing in other races is so unique, especially when people usually pick a race they are more familiar with. I hope you continue to create this amazing art. ☺❤️❤️😍😘☺☺☺
🇵🇭 Filipino right here! I am honestly in awe and I'm in love with your art style! I think this painting definitely makes people question here ethnicity- and it's beautiful!
Wow I didn't know you were mixed race and it's always so nice to have artists to look up to that share some of the same life experiences as I do. 💓💓 I think you did a really good job portraying that in the painting too
wow! this is the first video i have watched from your channel and i love how you said that the girl might be Filipino, i instantly subscribed since i'm from the Philippines! i'm glad someone from the same ethnicity as me inspired this painting! i love it!
I love the music choice. It has a velvet underground feel, which is what I listen to when I'm painting! I just discovered your channel today, looking for inspiration for a watercolour painting (I don't have a lot of experience with the medium). Anyway, I've been binge watching, and will probably skip the watercolour for today, and keep working with my favourite medium, acrylic! I love this portrait and want to give it a shot! Thanks so much ~ C
I really wish you recorded this painting from scratch.... It's late and this painting makes me want to paint soooooo bad 😩 I just love this painting ❤️❤️❤️
If you mix it with retarder it will stay wet. Another trick is to keep a spray bottle of water on hand and lightly spray once in a while. you can spray the canvas to but I wouldn't do it in the late stages of the painting.
It made me smile when you started talking about mixed race because I was wondering about your ethnicity during the beginning of the video. I am mixed race-black/white and people always think I am Hispanic or know spanish! No espanol! Then they hear my last name which is italian from my white side-bruno and they are so confused lol.
Absolutely love that painting. Great job with everything, especially the hair. I'm doing my first chick painting, and the hair is worrying me a bit. Anyways keep on painting.
Don't add water to your acrylics! It effects the way the chemical bonds of the paint form. When the water evaporates and the paint dries the chemical bonds of the paint will be weak and your paint will likely flake years later. Using a medium or a retarder will preserve that chemical bond making your art more archival.
Mia Couch what if i were to put some kind of glaze over it? would that help it stay in place? because ive done at least one painting where i used a bit of water with my acrylics, and id like to make sure it lasts in case i intend to sell it somewhere down the road.
The bonding material in my acrylic paints is acrylic polymer, I think that is typical of most acrylic paints, at least high-quality ones. If your glazing has acrylic polymer that may help stabilize the bond but I am just making an educated guess. That being said I should have clarified in my original comment that as long as you don't use more than 1 part water to 3 parts paint it should be ok.
Mia Couch i typically always make sure to not use too much water other than to soften my paint a bit, but i believe i was running low on a color on one of mine and admittedly used a decent amount of water to drag out how much i could use that color. ill likely use a glaze on that one when i can just to be safe.
+purple97ish You can use a gel medium if you want to make the acrylic thicker and more creamy, like an oil, or you can add a flow medium to make it thinner and more watery like a watercolor.
Loving your videos! Have you tried gold metallic gouache for your metallic gold? The gold leaf is gorgeous, but you might like the water based gouache more. Less irritating, no smell.
