Thank you so much for this. I’m painting my grandpas favorite fishing spot for my grandma so she can look at it everyday and remember him ❤️ This has helped me so much.

New to painting and just subscribed. Definitely going to give this one a go. Just wondering what type of brush you're using for the sky and reflection. It looks fairly large and somewhat round. Thanks!
It is just a large round headed brush as part of a multipack from a company in the UK called Hobbycraft. Not expensive. You get about 20 brushes for about £12. 4 of these big ones I think in a pack and smaller versions.
Thank you. There are lots of step by step tutorials now available on the channel. If you have anything you want to learn. Just put any ideas here in the comments. Happy painting 👍🏼
Great tutorial Mr. Stewart. Very educational. Can I make a comment. If I left my mixtures as long as you on the palette they would have dried within 5 minutes. Do you spray water, or top quality paints? Cheers
Your videos are really awesome! Please keep up the good work :) One question though: You often paint the canvas before, in this case burnt sienna, is this a must or is this for the chalk?
One reason is yes for the chalk to show up. The other is that being a dark colour. It shines through. So it shows me areas of the painting I have missed or need to add more thicker paint. So if I am using pastel light colours for say the sky in this painting. It shows me where i need to say thicken the paint or remove brush marks and cover up the brown shining through. Hope that helps.
I need to paint something like this for a friend but it’s got him and young son in it from behind. No clue how to do it. I tried it looks like a five year old did it. Any tips?
Im sure you will do fine. Just take your time and believe in yourself. A little trick is to paint the scene. Then use chalk to draw in the people. Then, you can see if the size and perspective is correct. You can also take a photo of a person or persons in a similar pose to use as a reference photo or even to trace onto the canvas as a stencil. Hope that helps.
