Wow. It's like that thing we did as kids, with crayons. Color a bunch of colors in a cardstock or something, paint black over the whole thing, then scratch out words or pictures to reveal the color underneath. This is awesome.
I love this!!! If I wasn't such a chicken I would definitely try a swipe. I've watched countless swipes and the wet paper towel seems to be the best tool to use.
Swipe with paper towels, just did a family paint night and introduced them to this technique- each one was awesome and they all opted for the paper towel to swipe with!
I am a new subscriber,I loved this.I have saw others pour paint with cups usaully. But I don't think I've yet saw so few colors used in the begining & a turn out like this. Every color imaginable. Obviously I knew they'd mix, but I was in awe of the simple use of a paper towel and all these cells with no heat needed. So amazing! I look forward to more!
I love this!! I'm new to pouring and havent swiped yet, but I did my first acrylic pour a couple weeks ago while my husband was panting his diy pedal board for his guitar. We ended up transferring my pour/just pressing/stamping it on his pedal board and it was so cool!! We could've done a pour on his board, but its not completely flat. Its in a wedge like shape, so it wouldn't be the same.
That totally exploded with cells as soon as you swiped it. I only had that happen once. I have tried a swipe today also but using the plastic film for protection that comes with my bulk canvases. It seemed to work out real good but they didn't pop out super fast like yours did LOL I've tried the wet paper towel a couple times and apparently I'm getting it too wet. I looked at your paper towel and I will try like yours next time. This is awesome!
Found this swipe because of your compilation video. Swipes can be so magical watching cells develop, and yours is not disappointing, Marcie. Tilting to cover corner didn't detract from the great result.
Art by Brooke was doing rainbow swipes the other day.. Your piece is just as amazing as hers. I am always so wary of rainbow 🌈 pouring because i think they will turn to mud. You both have hit it out of the park, giving me the maybe I can try this feels. I haven’t swiped yet but from watching videos the paper towel seems to give the most consistent results. Maybe it is because it has less drag.
Fun colors in that swipe! I vary what I use for swipes depending on what I want. I get more control using a palette knife, spatula or little sheets of cardstock, but the paper towel method is good for doing the entire canvas. I find that the paper towel method can look clumsy sometimes and cells can get distorted from having to cover bald areas where the towel dragged off too much paint. Either way I choose, I still have fun and love seeing what will come of my swipe.
I've never done any swiping before so I can't comment on that but...I love this painting Marcy! Especially the top left corner. The greens, blues a pinks all together look so cool! Well done my friend! Another Marcy masterpiece! 😉👍🎨
When i first started doing acrylic pours, i discovered the wet paper towel method and it is in my top 2 methods to do when i paint. Although I don't put silicone in my swipe color, I put it in 1 or 2 of base colors.
💛💙💜💚❤colorful💛💙💜💚❤ I'm trying to work on swipes, I think my problem is I don't have silicone. Does silicone make the difference in swipes? Haha you answered my question as I'm typing and watching. Thank you. I must see what I can do to get some silicone. This turned out AMAZING. I've attempted a couple swipes with different things I find the wet paper towel is the easiest and turn out better but I won't give up on the other things I use.
These are so inspiring and always look like so much fun! I will have to try them this spring (I could only do it outside as I'm in a very tiny apartment). I'll try to film it for my channel!
That came out beautiful! I've tried a swipe but without silicone and it was just ok. I think I need to try it again with silicone. So far I've only tried it with a wet paper towel.
My swipes just never work out. Been pouring a little over a year now and tree ring pours and flip cups are my favorite to do, ive only swiped using damp paper towel or a wide putty knife, but neither looked how id hoped they would :( watching ur video i dont think i swiped the paint hard enough tbh. Looks great MMG!
BEAUTIFUL! I just did a rainbow pour on my channel and I used a shiny coated cardboard piece to swipe. I had trouble getting coverage on the sides though, which made me think I should try the paper towel method next time. Thank you for sharing!
@@MixedMediaGirl Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I absolutely love your videos and you're one of the channels that got me into paint pouring over a year ago now! And I love your Business of Art channel too! I really appreciate your content
I like swiping with wet paper towel select-a-size so for larger canvases I can make a sheet big enough to swipe whole canvas-4 sections equaled a 16x20 canvas swipe
I am totally a fan of a wet paper towel, but I usually spray just one side until damp. Yours looks more wet than I have used, but it turned out awesome!
Paper towel is my go to method. But I loved the time you used extra paper packing from supplies to do the swipe! So creative. (I think it was when you were on vaca)
My swipes never turn out the way I want them- maybe because I hate using silicone. Love this though. Got my Christmas card and I love it. I could have gotten it in July and would have been just as excited. Thank you so much!!
I tried the paper towel method but that didn't go out well since i don't have silicone... but I think love doing the pour much more! U did an amazing job with this. Love how it came out
This is beautiful! I am a beginner, I have had 2 failed swipes when I tried. The swiping color took over my other colors. I think one time it was too thin and one time too thick. Can my swiping color be the same consistency as my other colors? Also, what are your ratios on your colors? Thank you and love your work!
I tried using black in my swipe painting. It came out okay. But when i used white to swipe across...holy cow it came out awesome. I wish i could post pics on here.
I have a question: I've watched a lot of swipes and most artists swipe with canvas in landscape (horizontal) and swiping from left to right. I was wondering about rotating the canvas to portrait (vertical) and swipe top to bottom. Would it come out the same?? I'm new to this so I apologize if this is an obvious question. 😊 thanks
Yes it will still work the same. Ive seen quite a few portrait style swipes down top to bottom. Ive also seen swipes in multiple directions or in a spiral from the middle. Just always swipe with the swipe color on top and heavy so it spreads over the top of the other colors :) and have fun
I think the wet paper towel is easiest, but the only time I actually LIKE liked my results, I used my cake frosting wand thing (can't think of the word - but its like 8" long and 1" wide and it has a step so the handle is lifted higher than the part I frost with)
One thing I see thats different here from other videos is you didnt use a "pillow layer"? I truly dont comprehend why that layer is necessary as you just got same results here. Can you enlighten me? Is it/when is it necessary to have pillow base?
This is great...I love swipes, especially bright colors and black. I also like the paper towel, but I just mist the end, so slightly damp. If it is too wet for me.. I drag to much of the black off the starting end.
She would have to lightly clean the silicone off the top before sealing it, which she shows us in other vids :) but yes the clear coat epoxy spray should still seal this fine
