I saw some of your pours on RU-vid( it just popped up). I was inspired by what I saw and wanted a new hobby. So out I went back in January of this year and got myself some paints and some canvas. Now I have had some challenges with cells but didn't give up. I now am happy with what I come out with. My garage now looks like an art gallery. My first big canvas pour turned out so well it was purchased. I struggle with my balloon stamp paintings and that Dutch pour is going to kill me. I purchased an air gun after getting paint all over my daughters hair dryer and will keep at both till I get what I want. Please keep putting these videos out because you are a wonderful teacher and so informative. I have two of my favorit paintings you did hanging up I watched in two of your videos and they both continue to inspire me to keep at it. Thank you your inspiration! I wish I would have watched this video when I was first starting out it very is so helpful.
You guys inspire me to push forward with new things to help you all! I will continue teaching as long as I can :) Thank you for your comment, it made my day!!
Thank you very much... I've been trying to start doing some pour to use them as a background for art... Pouring it's harder than what it looks! I'll keep trying...thank you!!
I smiled when you spoke of the prices of basic items. I’m from Australia and we artists can only wish for your bargains. Floetrol is $95 for a bottle smaller than yours.
and this is an old video. Prices are high for us as well for Australian Floetrol to do blooming. We pay $65 for a pint. I wish is was cheaper to ship so we could share our goodies with our Australian friends.
Thanks for this! I’m a newbie so I can relate to the earlier painting (which are beautiful 😉 ) I really like watching your videos. You explain so well and I can hear your sense of humor. 😊 Oh to wish that I was born rich instead of beautiful, I could watch your videos and get caught up! Thanks for sharing! 😍💐🎨
we don't do it anymore. We just use the glue and floetrol with the paint. We only add water when mixing base paint. I have that video in the tutorials as well.
Christine this video has been so helpful. I now have a list for beginner supplies. I'm looking forward to getting started. I enjoy all your videos. Thank you and blessings to you.
Boy, you and I must be sisters from another mother. *giggles* I am a jewelry designer, and have been inspired, recently, to explore acrylic and epoxy pouring. You are a wonderful teacher and a talented artist! Thank you so much for your videos!
In a video of your you were doing a flip and drag (Beautiful, by the way) and you said something about a paint coat versus resin...what's the name of that?
And that won't make it turn yellow? That's something you mentioned I really love the two videos of yours that I saw I've subscribed and tapped on the bell...thank you so much for being there for art babies like me...can't wait to grow up into an artist...
Christina I’ve heard you say you are not a teacher and that you are not teaching us but I have to disagree! I am a veteran teacher of 25+years (multiple subjects including Art) and from what I can see you are a natural and very effective TEACHER! Have you thought about offering your lessons as a series on Udemy? If you did now it would be a huge success of this I have no doubt! In any case - I just want to thank you for teaching so well, so clearly and for modelling so beautifully. The only drawback is that I tend to enjoy watching you work more than getting up and doing some work myself!!! Hahahaha🤪. Rock on!
Karen Wang if you are referring to my washing machine tray, you can buy one through my Amazon shop. Here is the link. www.amazon.com/shop/christinawelch?ref=ac_inf_hm_vp
For starting out, you can actually just use paint and water, and lots of paper towels (buy the cheap ones), the aluminum trays from the dollar store and a shower curtain liner or table cloth from the dollar store. You can get the popsicle sticks there too, but don't get the colored ones because the color can bleed into your paint FAST.
Actually, for as many pours as I do in a day, I keep a bucket of cool soapy water for my paint cups, dip my hands in to wet them, and use lots of paper towels... Since I retired, I'm no longer limited to one or two paint sessions a day, I can paint ALL day and I often do. And then when I fill the bucket with cups, I can just wash them. The only cups I've thrown away now are the ones where metallic paint has dried. They take so much more work to clean, it's not worth it. I try to soak them before it dries!
Hello, I LOVE your channel. i`m just starting up and i'm wondering what to do with the background paint. Should I mix it out too or just use pure acrylic paint?
its an adult underpad and yes, dried paint peels right off. You can find them in my Amazon shop. I keep cardboard under it so I can take it to another table to dry if I want it all saved ;) Thank you for watching.
As always, great information from an experienced artist. When you buy the torch from Amazon does it come already with gas or you have to buy the gas separately? Would a hair dryer do the same job like a torch?
You have to buy the butane for it. It will be empty when you receive it. You can't use a hairdryer for bringing cells up. You can use a heat gun or lighter, but try not to burn your paint.
Yona Giterman, I find butane (torch fuel) at Walmart for a couple bucks a bottle at the register. I checked all the hardware stores and dollar stores in the area and the only place that sold it was Walmart. Hope you have something like that near you.
Rebecca Konye sometimes the floetrol will have some “booger” in it. I think it’s what sticks to the inside of the jug. Great question, thank you for watching! 💕💕
This is the BEST video for beginners that I have seen. You suggested that I watch this video, so glad I did. Learned SO VERY MUCH ! You were informative , and explained everything in beginners terms that everyone can understand. Thanks so much.
deb f pretty much, on a low setting, stay at least 6 inches from the canvas and don’t stay in one area too long. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching! 💕💕
I'm sorry, I just have to say that if you are on a city sewer system, its perfectly fine to wash paint down the drain. My husband works for the water and sewer department and in his training they told them paint down the drain is fine. No need to worry. Now as far as a septic system, I would never put it in there.
Julie Risto thank you for your comment. I just worry about the buildup of paint with silicone in your drains. When I wash out my bottles outside, I have to use a scrub brush to get the residue out. I can’t imagine what this would do to pipes. Maybe we should have a plumber comment here as well. Thank you for watching! 💕💕
Christina Welch I'm not sure about the silicone, he hasn't said anything to me about that and he sees me doing this all the time. I love your videos. I am definitely a fan!! LOL
christine Matthews everyone has a preference, I prefer smaller cups for small canvas as well. However if I’m doing a Dirty Pour, I like it a little bigger so I can layer over paints. Thank you for watching! 💕
Again ,Great info.Love watching you.You take your time to explain everything well, appricate it!Thanks!I've only poured a few ,but I'm hooked I'm afraid.Glad you told us about Gerry's Artaramma, will be looking them up!
Hi Christina, I saw one of your mistakes, you poured a canvas twice and didn't like it, then you flipped the canvas onto the paint you had scrapped off the first pour. Can you please give me the link to this, when you did the dip and lifted the canvas off the pain it was awesome. Thank you Beth
I used to use water, but not anymore. Every artist has a different paint mix. Use what works best for you. I have great results with my recipe and no cracking with my white paint.
