How I varnish my paintings, acrylic pouring basics. I use a car sponge, and panty hose (got that from watching you tube, gina deluca ty!). I use liquitex gloss and high gloss varnish. I sometimes use a spray acrylic gloss varnish as well, but I have been loving the look of liquitex lately!

Thank you so much, Molly. I used to do paintings of animals and sceneries in Acrylic colors. I used Liquitex or Modpodge. I love the pantyhose over the sponge. I used to use sponge brushes, which took a lot of time. I love this hint. I will use it. Huggles always. 👩‍🎨🎨💖🍀🌷🦓🇺🇸 Liz in California.

Molly, you've done it again!!! Thank you for revolutionizing my life. This is so much easier than resin. I usually use resin on the paint pours and the liquitex varnish on my landscapes. Wow, now I will use the liquitex varnish on both. This may sound silly, but it sure helps me out because I have ruined a few paint pours with the resin. Whew...

Hi know the smell I was talking about was from golden varnish and that was also the one that cracked but the piece I ended up furnishing over about 5 layers with liquitex gloss varnish and the pieces textured but it was not ruined it actually turned out nice I only use liquitex gloss or high gloss varnish now poly acrylic also has cracked on me in the past the liquid text gloss varnish is my favorite by far

Molly, for the first time, should the sponge be wet or dry? Or just use it dry .... which seems like that would take a lot of varnish.

Hi Molly. I'm terrified to varnish. Thank you so much for this video. Question: When the black paint rubbed off on the sponge, you said something about changing the pantyhose and sponge. Does that mean that particular sponge can't be cleaned and used again? Thank you!

I’m very afraid to use many of these varnishes & will never touch resin as if not done in very well ventilated area & can cause serious lung, eye, skin damage & she’s doing it in “looks like open garage”. However; just this brush cleaner I use if don’t have a fan blowing it away from me (in less than 3 seconds) start getting a dizzy feeling! So when I finally pour something will wait until warmer weather & ask my sister to help me as some of us can’t handle those mediums! Not saying this lady who is doing beautiful work is not doing it right but please be careful as used a varnish that caused “burns” on my hands even with gloves on!

Molly, you said the sponge was dry initially and then once wet you store in a plastic bag for later use. Does that mean you are wetting with water or that the sponge is saturated with varnish? Also, when you wash your canvases that have silicone, how do you do that? Is it just a damp soapy rag and then rinse with a clean rag? Or run directly under water? Sorry, I'm just starting out. I have a few pieces but I'm looking to finish them with the varnish now and don't want to mess them up!

First of all, let me say I love your videos! I'm just a beginner. My granddaughter wanted to start doing this, so I began researching, and you have been so helpful with everything. We are enjoying ourselves so much trying new ideas. But, I have 2 questions. First, why not use a spray on gloss finish? I have a Valspar Gloss Spray here, I use for other craft projects that we were thinking of using. Also, we live in Pennsylvania. Would you expect the Minwax to have the same issues here, where we have 4 seasons as opposed to Florida where it is so warm all the time? Thanks in advance for your advice!

As per your instruction femme another video explaining pouring mediums, I have had good results with using a combination of 1:1 Floetrol and Liquitex Gloss Varnish. The dried canvas has good results and is glossy. My question is that do I still need to varnish over top using the same Liquitex Gloss Varnish even though it is in the pouring medium. Molly, it is interesting that you use the varnish after your painting is dry. I use the acrylic high gloss varnish as my medium, when mixing my acrylic paints, and they all come out perfectly, looking like they have been varnished. Maybe you could try it one time and see what you think. I used to use Flotrol with my acrylic paints, but ended up with matte finish, and I wanted more of a glossy finish, so I just experimented and am now not wasting so much money! 😁 Good luck! you do not have to use silicone at all and i rarely do anymore. no one knows when adding silicone how long the paints will last or any of the other additives for that matter, but if you use artist grade materials yes they should last, especially if you varnish over them

How do you finish the backs of your paintings, do you clean them up, paint them or cover them with paper and do you install a hanging wire or leave them as they are? thank you for your videos, I love every one of them. Very helpful and so inspirational

Thank you for this. I have been trying your technique but I am still getting streaks. What do I need to change? Also, Have you ever done a video on how you package your art to ship or where you get your floating frames?

hi one question: if you start with the sponge for the first time, it is not yet saturated, is that a problem?

Would you recommend spray varnish? Seems much easier. But is it good quality?

I found polyurethane interior gloss. It doesn't smell and leaves a nice shine. Has anyone used it before? Just curious.

Molly, I had a question...how do you clean dust off of a painted canvas? I had poured a painting a month ago and it dried fully in my "studio" (garage). But the contractor working on my house started cutting tile in there and it's a dust ball now. I don't want to smear or liquefy the paint. I need to varnish it and know it needs to be cleaned first...I wasn't sure if lysol wipes would make mud with the dust
@MOLLYSARTISTRY

Yes you can wipe with cloth towel or lysol wipe should be fine!

Hello Molly, I do hope you see this message. I’ve been watching how u varnish as I’m going to start using varnish rather than resin because I always manage to miss a tiny spot !!!! When you say ur sponge is saturated is that with water or varnish ? Thanks from Jane in Bonnie but very cold Scotland…..
@MOLLYSARTISTRY
@MOLLYSARTISTRY 2 года назад
Hi! You can saturate with either, i just keep it a little damp!

I have had trouble varnishing-lots of brush marks-I’ve ruined a couple of paintings, maybe more than a couple lol. Have you ever varnished a painting, only to want to paint over it again? (I’d hate to waste these canvases which I’ve varnished poorly.) If so, what did you do to make the varnished surface receptive to paint? Coz I imagine, paint would just slide off of a varnished surface. I’m guessing I’d need to sand it?
@MOLLYSARTISTRY
@MOLLYSARTISTRY 4 года назад
I would maybe gessoe over it. I havent done this, but you will have to be careful of cracking once it is sealed because the paint can breathe from underneath to dry evenly

Hi Molly, How often do you change the pantyhose on the sponge ?

Will the sponge soak a lot of gloss on a brand new sponge and panty hose?
