This video is about Active Newborn Tummy Time.
I conduct Newborn tummy-time against my chest. I do not place NEWBORNS face first on the floor due to the fact that most of them still have a hard-dried-umbilical-chord-stump covering their navel. Laying down on your back with your child against your chest is a scaled version of tummy-time, gentler on their belly, gentler on their neck muscles, still promotes muscular development, and lets be honest as a parent with a newborn, holding them is all we want to do anyway.
This child has been holding his head up on his own for up to 5 minutes at a time since he was 2 weeks old. Most children will be ready for tummy time on the floor by 2-3 months (8-12 weeks because the umbilical stump has usually fallen out by then!). The most important thing is to cherish this time with your infant, they will not stay this young for long.
