Queen Charlotte was famously of color. And her features reflected that. However, Bridgerton's portrayal of the time period is do far off the mark, it may as well be fiction.

@SK Ontheroad this was my point. Being moorish and Iberic is not Sub-Saharan. Admittedly, the actress is lighter skinned, but far far too dark for Charlotte. To me Charlottw would've have looked more like many of the Spanish descendants throughout the Americas...."swarthy" would have been the description as opposed to that Spanish word they used for the Sub-Saharans

You know there's actual fact that Queen Charlotte was actually black you know that right in the monarchy has been trying to erase her from their family history

Queen Charlotte (1744-1818), was directly descended from Margarita de Castro y Sousa, a Black branch of the Portuguese royal house. The riddle of Queen Charlotte's African ancestry was solved inadvertently as the result of an earlier investigation into imagery of the Black magi featured in certain 15th century Flemish paintings of the Christmas narrative. A couple of art historians had suggested that they must have been portraits of actual contemporaries since the artist, without seeing them, would not have been aware of the subtleties in coloring and facial bone structure of individuals of African descent, which these figures invariably represented. Enough evidence has been accumulated to propose that the models were, in all probability, members of the Portuguese de Sousa family. Several relatives had accompanied their cousin Princess Isabella to the Netherlands when she arrived there in 1429 to marry the grand duke, Philip the Good of Burgundy.

The source material is quite literally a series of historical fiction books. But stay mad I guess.

@taylorsealy2064 Historical fiction and not historical revisionism. In the books, Queen Charlotte is white. Also, notice how the only real change to the alternate timeline is skin color. What was they, no pushback? They would have been pushed back. Just for the record, I am not mad. Also, if you want to be fantasy, then just make it an alternate world or at least have it made sense, but no.

They say that at the beginning of the show. Just gotta take time to read.

It's fiction. It clearly states that it's fiction - in the very first episode.
