That was Trazyn the Infinite at the end. He woke up 20,000 years before the rest of the necrons, and decided to make a museum that showed everything that's happened since the necrons went to sleep. So he made diaramas. Then he started putting relics he stole from dead civilizations in them. Then he stopped making models at all, and just kidnapped the real people and put them in a time stasis field. So he can pose them like mannequins. And now he wants to steal anything and anyone important or interesting to "preserve for the future." in his collection. He's completely insane.

Trazyn the Infinite is the only one having fun.. other than the Orks. He was even present at the Fall of Cadia.. and it moved him so much that he made an exhibit and captured that moment in time when Ursakar Creed was on the final dropship leaving Cadia as Creed's world burned. You can visit Trazyn's museum at any time and see them... because he froze time and took Creed and a few soldiers with him. It's quite the exhibit.

Their introductory codex had a rule called "We'll be Back!". So the most reasonable conclusion is that Necrons were inspired, at least in most part, as a smash together of Fantasy Tomb Kings and Terminator.

some interesting Necron leaders to note are Trazyn the Infinite who just curates "the museum" which has anything from Uncle joes favorite mug to a clone of Fulgrim the Primarch, and then there's Nemesor Zahndrekh whose code malfunctions prevent him from seeing the reality that he is a living machine leading to comical moments of him trying to eat things.... without having a mouth or any organs. Then there is The Flayed Ones though some twisted want to be mortal again pull a Buffalo Bill and make skin suits after murderous rampages.

The Warp became what it is as a result of all of the carnage and the Old Ones messing with it to fight the Necrons.

Funny enough, if you seek Alliance with necrons, the best way to start is with Trazyn, the reason is that he had been doing trades with the AdMech and the Imperium for a while now.

Oh man, the Void Dragon of Mars, which the Mechanicum refer to as the Omnissiah, is actually a C'Tan. Also the Emperor beat its ass on Earth and imprisoned it on Mars which is the inspiration for Saint George and the dragon he fought

just for a example of how OP the pre rebellion necron empire was they created a device which is a perfect map of the galaxy the size of a small moon BUT any change made to the map would be applied to the ACTUAL GALAXY but the necrons after defeating the ctan said "yeah they is way to dangerous to use" and have merely protected it and made sure its never used as the galaxy destroying weapon it could be.

I suspect the Celestial Orrery might make their heads spin whilst talking about how OP the Necrons are potentially.

The Necrons feature heavily in the game Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus. You guys might get a kick out of it. The interactions between The Adeptus Mechanicus and the Necrons are extremely interesting! They have a lot of things in common in strange ways. Love it whenever you guys bring out 40k content! Especially when it's you two!

There've been many versions of an evil robot army in science fiction over the decades, not just the Terminators. The idea that they are ultimately dead and running on a kind of sophisticated auto-pilot is one of the logical possibilities, which this lore makes literal, in their origin not being as AI weapons of a deceased species, but as that deceased species.

Yes, Necrons were inspired by Terminator movies and the rule which allowed their soldiers to get back up and fight again was even called "We'll be back".

Orks were made by the Old ones to fight the Necrons, so Necrons have a very deep hatred of the Orks especially Imotekh the Stormlord he's a powerful Necron Overlord despite being one of the most dangerous and deadly tacticians in the galaxy he hates fighting them because how do you fight something that defies all logic.

My favorite part of necron lore is that they are absolutely anti-warp. So much so that they create weapons designed to nullify the warp in real space. They would make great allies to the imperium against chaos if either side wasn't insane

Necron knowledge is far beyond science . If Eldar know some warp using,Necrons know how to shut it up and not barking but only in Physical reality. Their Scintists far long use not even nano tech but micro bending of laws of nature and energy itself ,C'tan help them with advancement to fight with Old Ones and Necrons absorbed it perfectly .Their weapon is like fairy taile for Adeptus Mechaincus it not blow some thing it litteraly dismantle it on particle without ties or anihilate at all. Main material -Necrodermis is only little part of all ther achivements. Space-Time manipulation ,local reality bending ,Sujects of science that humans read only in sci-fi novels. Their snipers hide and wait in sub-space ,their teleportation is will controlled . Their Scouts almost can be immaterial .Their blades can cut throuth few dimensions no matter what armor you use only force fields can compare with it. Trazin walking around galaxy as a Boss and no one can harm him seriously.

Badly that necrons cant be half-organic metal civilization with benefits of both sides.It can solve their problem with developing live as all races in galaxy and give them immortality and resistance as metal has.

I can't remember in which novel, novella, short story, or blurb I read it, but basically, I remember a Chaos Marine, dying and nailed to the floor by a Necron Lord, laughing bitterly as he told the Necron that he was ready for death. He wasn't sorry that he had rebelled against the Emperor, but he was equally bitter about the forces of Chaos being just as faithless as the Emperor had been. Ultimately, he saw the Necrons as proof that all of existence was a joke; nobody, not The Old Ones, the Necron, the C'tan, the Aeldarii, the Imperium, and finally Chaos, ever got it right in the end. By the way, the Aeldarii (Eldar) and the Krorks (Orks) were created by The Old Ones to fight the C'tan and Necrons.
