I thought Jin's identity as an Asian American was a significant aspect of this movie. I could definitely see Jin's Korean background affect his relationship with Casey, like when they first met and he took offense to her surprise that he could speak English but then apologized for being a jerk about it. I thought this subtler portrayal of Asian American identity was truer to my experience.
Nice catch. Unfortunately the true diversity never exists (perhaps will never do). Most of the time it is politically motivated, although it is more realistic than the ideality of true diversity. But the true diversity may come sooner than we think. One day when humans realize their greater enemy is genetic modified humans, then they will unite XD
Literally spotted this and looked if anyone was gonna say anything at the comments. Like what does being Asian American have to do with telling the story??
I don't understand the decision to call the film "Columbus". If the story were set in a place with a unique name it wouldn't be as bad a title. But Columbus is an explorer or the capital of the Buckeye state to virtually everyone (and I have been to Columbus IN, loved it, and hope to go back). Try searching for the dvd on eBay and you get to sort through hundreds of movies by Chris Columbus and documentaries about Christopher Columbus and other movies with "Columbus" in the title.
