The endings bittersweet for me, knowing what comes after this. And honestly, if they wanted to try and get away with a sequel where we finally see the spies being sent in and Wonka firing everyone and meeting the Oompa Loompas, I wouldn't be mad
@theaces3697
@theaces3697 5 месяцев назад
yeah i think a middle film between this and Wilders wonka movie would be perfect, we could see the rise to fame, the spying and seeing Wonkas fall and lost faith in people to the point he locks himself away - you know i wouldnt even say no to a retelling/movie based on the actually book but with Timothee Chalamet - i really do like him and his version of Wonka to the point i would actually be ok with a semi reboot of the '71 film

me and my family went to see this movie in the theaters on my dad's birthday. I remember before going that we were watching the first two movies and having a debate about which was better. While my parents thought the older from the 70's was better, me and my siblings remember watching the new one with johnny Depp growing up, so we naturally went with that one. But as far as this movie goes, we all actually enjoyed this one, the story and plot captured out attention the entire way through and it was well balanced with the humor, the wholesomeness, and the musical inputs. The settings and dynamics of this film were quite creative and really goes into what we envisioned for Wonka to be like.

“So goes a good deed, in a weary world” That line from the oompa loompa was the same exact line Wonka said at the end of the 1971 film. ☺️ In fact there are many references to the Gene Wilder 1971 Willy Wonka movie in this. This film was such a great prequel to my most favorite movie ever ❤️

Its genuinely one of if not the best movie I've ever seen. Its so magical and Timothée is brilliant. And if you don't know. Timothée didn't audition for this. The director Paul King straight up called him and offered him the role. He saw some of Timothées old dancing stuff he did years back and he knew Timothée was the one to be Willy Wonka, and he was right. There is so many bits where it's like is this Timothée Chalamet or Gene Wilder? Lol.

I really loved this film. I thought it was a great origin to the factory itself and I would be very interested in a further film showing the events that lead to Wonka firing his staff, closing the factory to the public, and hiring the oompa loompas. I think people forget that WIlly didn't have that sinister, unpredictable edge to him until after he went into self imposed isolation because his staff sold his chocolateiering secrets to competitors.

I absolutely loved this movie. Its fun, crazy, wacky, silly, really whimsy, and it captures that feeling of Roald Dahl's books so well. And it's extremely heartwarming all throughout with many scenes involving Wonka. It almost git me to shes a tear with Pure Imagination. So many callbacks to Wilder's Wonka even with little details like Wonk's cane standing upright at one point and not falling over and his mom's note being on a golden piece of paper (golden ticket). Every musical number is a bop and the rest of the main cast (especially Noodle) were all fun in their own way.

This was one of a tiny handful of recent films that I've actually gone to the theater to see. I thought it was 'pretty good,' not necessarily great (and also not deserving of any outpouring of hate). The creators made a sincere effort to tie a number of callbacks to the beloved 'national treasure' of the 1971 film (Wonka's use of a legal contract to trap people, has its origins in this new film, for example.) Is there a down-side / failure in this film? If I had to point to one, it's this: The 1971 film establishes Willy Wonka as a good soul, but who has a wild, barely-contained 'devil' side to his personality: (the scary monologue-poem he recites when on the 'Wonka-boat' through the tunnel; the apparently genuine lack-of-concern that Augustus Gloop might really be drowning (or doomed) when he falls into the chocolate river; the apparent gleeful anticipation - 'the suspense is terrible! ...I hope it'll last' - when Augustus gets briefly stuck in the intake pipe), We don't quite know if Wonka is essentially honest, or essentially good, until the end of the 1971 film, when the story settles the question. That Willy Wonka's "wild, intermittently-unhinged devil side" is absent in this film. (That's not a fatal flaw, but it certainly is an inconsistency in the portrayal of the character.) Did Wonka become more unhinged as he got older? (Let's be generous and say that that's up to the viewer to decide.)

The tag line of this movie should have been {Free Willy "Wonka" the Movie.} But of course, it might have confused some people into thinking the theater was showing a double feature. ;)
@alexkaen1701
@alexkaen1701 7 месяцев назад
I thought the movie was fine, it was just a completely different tone than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies. For one thing, in those movies, the world was normal, all the magic happened within the factory. Now we have people flying around in the street and shops selling candy that turns people into furry Loraxes. Also, the police chief trying to outright murder Willy was a move too far. I also question how Slugworth is supposed to be Wonka's greatest competition when he should be in jail.
@justarandomveryintelligent8934
@justarandomveryintelligent8934 7 месяцев назад
You gotta remember a few things. The reason all the magic is confined to the factory in the original film and the remake is because Willy had employees who sold the secrets to his magical candies to his competitors. Due to this betrayal he fired all his workers, brought in the oompa loompas, and shut the factory down to the public and went into self imposed isolation to work on crazy candy while the factory pumped out more familiar less magical fare to the public. Slugworth in the original film was a man whom he hired who assumed the name slugworth and pretended to be a competitor paying the kids in exchange for secrets from the factory in order for willy to test their character. Based on this movie, Willy got the name slugworth from the man in this film.
@alexkaen1701
@alexkaen1701 7 месяцев назад
@@justarandomveryintelligent8934 1. If his candies were originally magic, then stolen, then all candy in the original movie world would have magic of some kind 2. Slugworth was known to Uncle Joe as Wonka's competitor, and had been active throughout Wonka's exile, therefore Slugworth was a real character and a real rival, even if the name was used for the test
@justarandomveryintelligent8934
@justarandomveryintelligent8934 7 месяцев назад
@@alexkaen1701 1. Depends on which candies the spies and traitors were able to get access to. 2. Grandpa joe would be old enough to have seen the events of this wonka movie unfold which means he'd be talking about this slugworth.
