Fun fact about the speed: While paw called the tank rather slow and realistic, it's actually too fast. The Mark IV made about 6 kph, which is under 1,7 meters per second. That's round about walking speed, so the soldiers running towards the front at the beginning would have left the tank behind.
They still weighed around thirty pounds or fifteen kilograms. They're portable, yes, but you're not running and gunning with it that easily. Would make more sense to get in cover and deploy it properly
Fun fact: Lions can't purr as they are part of the big cat family, like Tigers they can roar. Lynxes, cougars and cheetahs can purr, but they can't roar in return. Which sound a cat makes depends on a certain bone structure being present / missing that connects their tongues to the skull. Small cats have it and purr, big cat lack it and roar instead

I think the "Big Bullet" he is talking about fired from Rifles are "K bullets" or reversed bullets. they could pen the armor and send shrapnel into the crew but it could backfire too. Nice Vid btw.
If the back end of a bullet could get through armor, the front end would do it even better. No, reverse bullets deformed the armor, which in turn created spall, which in itself is the shrapnel you did mention.
7:52 What about it? It was a thing that British officers would privately purchase their own sidearms, many of them being C96s. I suppose you could make the argument over some random tank crewman having one. But the C96 was still a popular sidearm amongst British forces around that time.

The funny thing about the A7V is that, while it looks quite simple (let's be honest, it's a box on wheels), it wasn't the worst design. Compared to the British Mark VII, which capped out at 16mm armor, the A7V had far more, at 30. Though power and weaponry (one 57mm vs. two, and fewer machineguns) weren't up to scale. Then again, the vehicle was also meant to be buildable as a tank OR a cargo hauler, so its production and design was a nightmarish hellscape of competing needs.
The way the tracks were positioned did not suit trench warfare at all, they could easily get stuck in trenches or shell craters, like The Mephisto A7V that was captured by Australian forces. The mk IV/ V was more suited for this combat and was probably easier to produce
@@gloriouswar9116 Good point! As for ease of production, I'd definitely agree. A big problem with A7V was that the core design wasn't a dedicated combat vehicle, but rather something that could either be build into a combat vehicle or built into a utility vehicle. So you had competing and contradicting goals that overcomplicated it and slowed production - not to mention delayed its rollout.
The first time British tanks met German tanks in the field, neither knew what to do. Tanks and tank crew training was based around being a support vehicle for infantry, or being a battering ram against trench lines.
And the later hermaphrodite, which had one of each. Which would have made more sense, had it been modelled, as it would have allowed both the cannon to behave as depicted and the machine gun. But, the model looks like both sponsons have the same gun in them.
I used to dominante with the Mk V in multiplayer. if I got at least one dedicated turret man on comms with me we'd end up being the most aggressive Mk V anybody had ever seen. With two we were unbeatable. Literal 100 kill games where I was on the front line the while time
@@ntfoperative9432 Exactly. Seen that way too many times. The best is when you tell the driver to go and they straight up ignore commands and stay way in the back using only a mg.
As someone who loves tanks. I agree with PanzerPaw in that the mark V would not have survived for that long. Especially considering those field guns are 77mm guns and a single shell would rip apart that tank.
I feel a big thing to say is the armor on the landship was heavier than most tanks at the time, contributing to it's slow movement. It would take reversed bullets or k bullets to penetrate the armor effectively. But even then it would take field guns and heavier payloads to properly crack the armor with more than a pinhole meant for sprawling and crew targetting.
To answer your question about the C96, in ww1 and ww2 it wasn't uncommon for soldiers to just bring their own weapons along. In ww2 it was prohibited but everybody did whatever the hell they wanted anyway, relatives would often ship soldiers their pistols and other "favourite" weapons from home. In ww1 you would've either brought your own gun from home or you would've bought one while in the trenches if you could. It's not all that weird to see a British soldier with a C96, for example Winston Churchill possessed and used one during ww1 and he freakin loved it
I know this comment is like 2 years late but I played this game for the first time the other day and I really wanted to share this. In the mining town mission, I wanted to do something similar to you albeit slightly different. I noticed the hill Westside of the mining town and I knew that by design, my tank has the range advantage. So I drove outside of the mining town onto the hill to take advantage of so that I could overlook both the road the enemy is coming from and nullify the cover of the mining town along with virtually increasing my range advantage until "Return to Combat Area" I guess Battlefield really does hate good tactics.
You should play the battlefield V last tiger campaign, where you play as German tiger E in 1945. It is the best bf V campaign, but that’s no saying much
I haven't seen any one say this but the cannons on the MK V were 6 pound navel guns but with the barrels cut down so they wouldn't get stuck in the mud.
The machine guns there where 3 one in each sponson and one for the driver and some crew had a small mortar on the back for if the tank was stuck in Mud or if a field gun had big slabs of armor in front
Black Bess(the tank you drive) is a hermafrodite (what they called tanks with both machine guns and cannons, females had machineguns and males had cannons) tank which at the time was rare it would have one machinegun on both sides and another one on the front.
3:10 yeah the Mark 5 tank had only 5mm of armor in all sides from what i can remember. (pls correct me if i m wrong) And the LMG is in the front. Edit: i forgot to tell that there is a machine gun on each side of the main cannons.
The were two machine guns on the sides of the mark 5 so no enemy troops could sneak up on the sides and throw grenades or go into the tank and kill the crew
Yeah that tank looks like a British MK1 or MK5 tank, MK1s only had around 8-12mm of rather questionable quality steel. They'd keep most rifle and machine gun rounds out but those field guns should've popped the rivets holding the armor together or left a massive hole or caved in the armor with each hit. I find it hard to believe that it would sustain hit after hit directly from said field guns with such minimal armor. MK5s were a little better with armor increased to 16mm all around but that doesn't make it any more believable. All that did was increase it's protection against larger rifles, machineguns, and shrapnel. It'd basically keep out anything up to MAYBE a .50 but given that the .50 was originally developed to defeat tank armor of it's time I sort of doubt it.
Standard Rifle bullets couldn’t get through the armour the special K bullets could sometimes but mostly caused spalling but normal could not penetrate the armour
If you shoot an anti tank gun with a tank, does that make the gun of that tank an anti anti tank gun tank gun? And if you shoot a tank with a tank, is it an anti tank tank? What if that tank gets shot by a tank, is the other tank now an anti anti tank tank tank? And if THAT machine were to be shot with an anti tank gun, is it now an anti anti anti tank tank tank tank gun?
about the c96 mauser in the 1st mission cutscene, The Allies and especially the British were VERY notorious for stealing German weapons for personal use too the point of stealing ammo from the corpses of German soldiers to supply the ammo to use it
Okay because you don't know a lot about World War I tanks I'll give you some enlightenment. The tank that you command in battlefield is called a British Mark IV. It was a very long tank that was designed to cross the trenches during World War I. The version that you are using is the "Male"version which has two 6 pounder navel guns in no spontoons (there is also a "Female version" that has machine guns other than cannons). Now, is a male versions have three machine guns one on the left side, one on the right side, and one in the front. These Mark 5S were also powered by an engine which was situated in the middle of the tank and it was exposed so the conditions inside were hot steamy gaseous not really the best. So the engine could be repaired from the inside but it was very difficult. No when you go through that massive trench that was what the tank was designed to do. These tanks were designed to go through the most hellish conditions during World War 1 so they were designed to go through wire and massive amounts of wire without being stopped. Now the bullets that you are referring to are known as "K bullets"which at the time were the only bullets that could effectively penetrate the tanks armor. Your normal machine gun rounds and rifle rounds couldn't, the German tank that you're fighting is known yes as the A7V which Germany only made about 17 of them. And World War I right at the end was the first ever tank on tank combat when three British Mark IV's went up against three German A7V's. No during World War I sometimes you had to get out of the tank to repair the engine because even though the engines on the inside, they are components on the outside which can't be repaired from inside. (Sometimes battlefield has those moments were you have a round in the gun but it doesn't show it). Also those siege gun shells they did have propellant, it is in the form of gunpowder just like your normal tank shells or bullets but on a much larger scale. They were siege guns for a reason massive caliber very heavy shells that could do a lot of damage if they hit right. During World War I even though the tanks had little armor they were designed to go through machine guns, sewing machine guns couldn't go through them.
I feel like the speed is too high for the Mark V in this. Also the crew would not be shouting commands, they would be punching the metal of the tank to signal to turn left or right, and to shoot and what not. The engine is inside the tank with the crew, it was too loud for them to talk and would be causing lots of heat and poisonous gas, so they wouldn't be inside it for this long. They also would have some kind of mesh face mask because any gunfire of any calibre would become molten and spray them in the face if it hit the viewing port. They also could not turn while driving, or shoot while driving. To turn you had to stop, turn off one engine to which ever direction you wanted to turn. The fact that their own artillery shot them when they were stuck is actually realistic, aside from the fact that they wouldn't have any choice in the matter and would most definitely die. British tanks were under fire from their own artillery in case they got stuck so the germans couldn't capture them. They also would have a helmet, which when viewed from the side looked like the German picklehaub, which lead to lots of friendly fire incidents because you could not exit the tank facing forward because of the width of the helmet. The Mark V in the game is a male since it has 6 pounder guns, so it has 4 Hotchkiss machine guns, one on both sides next to the cannons which is shown in game during the cutscene where finch dies and 1 on both the front and the back, though it appears that the rear one has been removed in the game, which is possible, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to defend your 6. During the cutscene when the tank gets stuck and is being over run, the germans could have easily shot through the view ports since they appear to still be open some what, at least how they would be in combat, with just the small slit in the main view port door.
