6/19/2022: My 5-1 rainfall gauge failed as well. I followed your instructions to dismantle unit and lo and behold: there was a single Ponderosa Pine needle that had made its way past the guard grill and was preventing the tipping bucket from moving -- Voila- problem solved - Thanks
I am glad it helped you ! Make sure to rotate your batteries too if you are using alkaline cells. I just had to rewire mine from some corrosion gone wild. Thanks for watching !
It surprised the heck out of me. Someone in the comments old me what type of spider it was . Now I spend more time observing them. Thanks for watching !
It was like Starship Troopers I tell ya :) It popped out and started doing pushups before performing some olympic level box jumps. It did not like the butt of my power driver however. May he rest in peace. Thanks for watching !
@@survivalcomms people don't understand that whole you got to eat bugs to pass this course scarring that happened 30 years ago 😂 I'm really happy you left that in the video. Well done 💪
My rain gauge didn't work. When I took it apart I found 2 large Stink Bugs, 2 different types of spiders, an earwig, lots of tiny wood lice and spider webs fouling my gauge buckets so they could barely wiggle, along with a spider egg sac and plenty of dust.
Hey Brett, I have that same unit and have always wanted to compare it to a "wired" anemometer for gust accuracy. I wonder if the wind gust "peaks" data is stored on-board and then sent in the periodic wireless data transmissions (once every 5-10 seconds?) - OR - Is it just sending the actual speed at that moment in time of the data transmission. Any thoughts on that ? PS. Great reaction time to the surprise attack ! All the Best, Rick
That is a really good question ! I did not see an on board memory at the array and all the unit translation and log term data storage takes place at the inside unit. The reaction time to changes is pretty doggone fast (1-2 seconds) . If I had to bet on the wired one or the wireless for response time I would feel the wired would hold an edge on response time but would be close. That spider wasn't happy with me messing with his penthouse. That cocoon was tenacious in terms of strength to scale. Thanks for watching !
Mike isn’t working when I poor water In it acts like it didn’t get any water I cleaned it, sometimes it will add some water after I poor some in there but It will be 15 min
@@survivalcomms LOL I take pics of them all the time. They have so much personality and character. I've got to also work on my gauge to find out why the rain isn't measuring.
@@VB-ij2tu They truly do . I no longer view them as a possible threat and admire them as well. Thanks to those who shared what they know . Thanks for watching !
