Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP) is a genetic disorders of Heme Synthesis pathway (Heme Metabolism)…It’s caused by deficiency of the enzyme porphoibilinogen deaminase | Biochemistry & Hematology…Repeated attacks of acute, severe abdominal pain, neuropsychiatric symptoms (psychosis, dementia, hallucinations, anxiety)…peripheral neuropathy, purple-colored urine (red-tinged urine that gets oxidized upon exposure to light or air, elevated levels of porphobilinogen, aminolevulenic acid (ALA), and porphyrines..There is no photosensitivity…Treatment includes glucose and hemin (a heme analogue)…What are the different types of porphyria?…Porphyria cutanea tarda vs acute intermittent porphyria.

Mayo clinic estimated me to be #9 in medical history with ALAD Porphyria. I went 31 years undiagnosed and being treated like a psych patient or things being passed off as being related to my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and comorbidities. This was a great informational video and I hope more awareness gets out there!

I was at the hospital 8 times, 3 times got there with an ambulance - 8 times I was treated like I was a hypochondriac or like I just was hysterical, every time they told me after the attack when I had the blood tested, that it looks like I must have had something like pancreatitis - so I must be an alcoholic (I never drink, ever) - the problem is that the attack lasts between 17 hours and 4 days where I can just stay in bed with so much pain, I can't get up, can't do anything and vomit constantly until I'm so weak and dehydrated that I want to die. All of a sudden the attack is over, I can find my phone and call somebody - go to the hospital, get treated like a hysterical, hypochondriac AGAIN....

Way to alleviate the attack is to consume a large carbohydrate diet.

4:45 cancer with signet ring cell is gastric carcinoma, diffuse type and also lobular carcinoma can show same finding

I had to create a cheat sheet of AIP symptoms for drs. The first Dr who was familiar with AIP was my therapist, trained in South Africa. The second medical professional was an acupuncturist. I know someone with this disease, it's absolutely horrible to watch happen to someone you love. He's so skinny and malnourished looking. He can't do anything but stay in bed in pain for days until it passes. I wish there were ways to better help these people from such a horrible disease.

I have HCP which looks like AIP but with bonus cutaneous symptoms too. When a medical professional told me “ah yes I know what that is” last week when seeing me for the first time, I nearly cried.

This is tremendously helpful. I was just diagnosed last year, but I’ve had the symptoms since childhood. I’ve suffered so much and I had no idea this was going on. Learning tons as I go. I also have the diagnosis aip but never got around to figuring out anything about it before. Seeing as there should be other people with the diagnosis in here theres one thing I have to ask. See, I generally use no painkillers for anything, maybe a paracetamol or similar when i have a headache so bad I cant function, point being, I have noticed that I have a much higher pain tolerance than almost all people i meet and I was wondering if it could be related to aip if anyone has a smiliar ability to ignore most any kind of pain outside of "late stage tooth ache" for the lack of better wording?

Much better than some professors power point ;) P.P.D.D.: I read about porphyria for the first time not long ago in the book "The Invisible Rainbow (Arthur Firstenberg)" which is about the relationship between electricity and human beings in the past, the present, and the future. Defo a recommended read ;) =)

I have PCT (Porphyria Cutanea Tarda) and Im the only one in my country. Now thats gonna be fun. To makes matters worse I also have a mutation for an extremely rare version of PCT, only about 40 known cases. But most likely just are carier on this as as far as I know only my mom has this gen and I need to get from both parents.

Can you please explain why don't porphyrias cause sideroblastic anemia but Lead poisoning does, despite both of them interfering with the heme synthesis pathway?

If its an inheritance problem, would it affect all siblings or not? so my entire lifes misery match a lot of these symptoms of this this except that i never seen not once that i take piss that it's abnormal red or purple its mostly orange cloudy or normal and i do take meds and vitamins
