I would love to hear all of his lectures! He is a great teacher with so much passion. He increases my love for learning. I learn better when I understand the whys and have a visual. He helped with this!
I am a nursing student graduating in 2 months and preparing for the NCLEX. Your lectures are awesome! The explanations are clear and to the point. Thanks so much!
You are like an awesome mix of Fifty Cent, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker and Dr. Najeeb! :D Fifty Cent = gangster Chris Rock = talk Chris Tucker = attitude + talk Dr. Najeeb = love expressions about body parts and that rocking Whiteboard teaching style! This deserves a thumb up and a subscription! ;)
He forgot the last E in GETSMASHED... the last E is Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Its a procedure that in and of itself can cause pancreatitis. Wikipedia summarizes it best "Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a technique that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems".
Thank you soo much for this awesome lecture! MY nursing instructor gave a 3 hour "lecture" on this topic today and came no where close to how well you simplified it. Awesome man! Made it very easy to understand!
you are soooooo amazing dude, im a year 1 medical student but i decided to apply for an attachment for general surgery in the summer even thought i know nothing about it. Ur videos help soooooo much in preparing me for this!
I'm applying to med school this year and I just discovered your channel. All your videos make sense! Just one suggestion...I would invest in better markers, especially color ones!
2- Watch your Diet, NO Fat- 3- live as clean as possible- 4) I am on my way out the door, but I had to write, because having Pancreatitis at your age is somewhat rare- Could you explain what your symptoms are- your day- eating schedule- etc- And what is your amylase and lipase? ... The blood amylase test is ordered, often along with a lipase test, to help diagnose and monitor acute or chronic pancreatitis and other disorders ...
Great video, I loved watching it you've got a great way of teaching! I'm no student just somebody who wanted to learn more about it and the video was a huge help. Thanks :)
Thank you eve so much! Your upbeat personality complements your wealth of knowledge so beautifully! The world needs more people like you! Thanks Doc :)
I enjoyed this video and you’re a great teacher! Just when I thought I knew everything about pancreatitis, I learned some new things here! With that being said, hopefully you can help me with a BIG question! Here goes: I am 43 years old and have been a heavy drinker since 19! 2 years ago I admitted myself into the ER because I was having a lot of pain in my right side and behind my right rib cage! They did blood work and I had high levels of lipase and amylase in my blood! I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis! I asked the doctor if this was reversible and they said it was as long as I quit drinking! I literally haven’t had a drop of alcohol since! A year later I was STILL getting pain in the same areas I mentioned so I went back for tests! After blood work, ultrasound, Xrays etc I found out all tests were normal but I was still having pain! Although not half as bad but I was still having pain! This was a year ago! Here we are 2 years after my diagnosis and a year after all my normal tests and I’m STILL having a little pain in those same areas! Even though it’s a LOT better, less intense, and a lot less often with the pain, the fact is I’m still getting pain! It’s been 2 years since I drank alcohol! Normal tests! I’m so confused! Can anyone offer some answers! It would really be appreciated!
Hmmm.... interesting enough is I have pain on my upper left side. Aches mainly when I eat and I looms fat but its rock hard. Doesn’t feel like fat. I only feel good while fasting.
You're an AWESOME Teacher!!! I'm not a medical doctor, nurse, or anyone medically trained, and you teach in a style that all can understand. Thank you! You help patients become more aware, which can help doctors with faster diagnosis when patients educate themselves as much as possible. Anytime I have bodily issues, I research deeply so that I am aware enough to work symbiotically with doctors if a visit is required. A couple of years ago I had a mystery case (much like an episode of "House"). It took I believe it was 11 doctors to treat all my strange, mysterious issues. If not for them, I'd be in a more etherical state, lol! I'm truly grateful for all you Doctors and other medical professionals do. I now do all I can to be wholistic and natural to maintain health. But it's always a comfort to know that medical heroes are always around every corner to save and support people in need. Thank you! Much Love...SUBSCRIBED!!
Hi, I just got out the hospital in June from Pancreatitis, it is like my second attacked and the 1st time the hospital didn't find an abcess in me until a month later. I had another attacked and went to a different hospital and they found that I had an abcess the size of a grapefruit. So I was in there for 6 wks and just lately, I am having minor pain but nothing that I can't handle. I don't have anymore money to go to the ER again. Got an appointment to my local doctor in a wk.
As opposed to morphine, which causes spasm of the sphincter of oddi, what analgesic would you recommend?? I am currently sitting beside with my mother, who after having her gallbladder removed, developed pancreatitis. The nurses have been administering dilaudid (hydromorphone, a derivative of morphine) per doctors orders, and she is suddenly complaining of abdominal spasms. I'm no med student or doctor by any means. Just a son doing some research on his mother's ailment.
morphine is now used instead of mepridine because it really does not disturb the spincter of oddi some still use mepridine, pethidine preferrably. The E in the etiology stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography ERCP. Kamenchik sign is important ===pain with pressure under xiphoid process.Mayo-Robson sign--pain while pressing at top of the angle lateral to erector spinae muscle and below left 12th rib.
Im from iraq u are american where ever u are from still the magic of medicine shine .love ur videos alooot there is so much pasion .hat off for u doc. I hope some day I get to your beutiful land and feed on that knowledge .pray for me .love yeeee
my step son is going through this, It is beating my wife down, Its been going on for about three years and its not getting better.Faith that he will recover is waining and they are talking about taking his pancreatis out and grinding it up and puting in his liver ?? can you give any advice?
I am a medical coder and your videos truly help me understand the disease processes. Your teaching method is amazing and almost makes me want to go back to school lol
No Duffler. It's for people who are about to die because their pancreas is about to stop working because of the pain that is causing so much distress. Be careful what you say about this horrible disease. Many people do not walk away from it.
Guys truth be said, he explains good....ignore the accent and pay attention to what he's talking about and you will reap the benefits. Don't be too critical each of us has and accent of some kind lol.......
I am a recent Ultrasound Graduate. I've passed my RDMS registry for OB/GYN and am now studying for my Abdomen registry. I've been watching your videos to get a better understanding of the pathologies and it is SO much more fun learning this way and feeling your passion and energy vs. when I was sitting in lectures with an instructor who was dry and just "going through the motions." Thank you for providing a palatable way to force this info down my throat and make it fun too. :)
could a meal of say some super fatty bacon cause acute pancreatitus? I ate it and instantly knew I had screwed up but it took a day or two for my belly to start hurting. Is this coincidence?
You are the best, I really appreciate what your doing to help your fellow medical professionals. With this information I have a much better understanding of my Dx.
......I ranout of letters to write. My question is what all should I do when I see my doctor. I know for sure lab and blood test, but should I go for the CT Scan or Ultra Sound?? And as for right now, what can I take for the minor pain and should I not eat for a couople of days? So so scared about another attack.
i'm no doctor but i bet removing meat and dairy products completely from your diet and significantly upping your fruit and veg intake (mostly raw) will help. It's all to do with what you eat.Go vegan with whole foods no more processed crap no pasta/breads (Gluten) and you'll feel a lot better.Go to 'vshvideo' channel on youtube they have many vids on benefits of vegan/veg diet, they will give you the kick start you need. Hope this helps sorry can't be more specific for you. Good luck.
I'm a 52 yo female. Gallbladder removed 10 years ago. Have not been diagnosed with pancreatitis but am sure I've had acute panreatitis 2x in the last few months. Horrible upper GI pain, vomiting, diarrhea. Felt similar to when I had gallstones. I'm fat, with high trigylcerides, taking levothyroxine (hypothyroidism). I do not drink or smoke but my diet is terrible. I do not have any medical experience but was able to learn a lot from this video. Thank you. I will be contacting my physician.
i wish you were my doctor in hospital i have been in and out for months and the doctors always put it down to pancreatitis but the only tests the do is blood tests which show high level of enzymes but i had a endoscope and it came up as a very inflamed stomach evrey itme i'v been in i have been on a I.V and morphine as you say the pain gose from the bottom of my ribcage all the way round to my lower left shoulder just got out of hospital monday last week
Thank You for Your Smashing video- I can understand You seriously knowing I had 4 reasons on your list- not that Pretty boy doc in the ER saying Oh it's You gall Bladder- surgurgey today.. Living with thoose same reasons minus 1- adult daughters fist hell of punch haha..
I had severe acute pancreatitis. The symptoms occurred with creamy/fatty dairy foods. Most pain I ever experienced. Hospitalised for 5 month. Try cutting out milk/cheese/cream and fatty/oily foodstuffs. Will definately help if your pancreas is playing up.
You talk about trauma causing Pancreatitis. My question is , could that trauma occur as a child and the pancreatitis hit you as an adult from that trauma. If that makes any since. Ive had 3 attacks already and the doctors still dont know whats causing it. .
I pray that I see more instructors with your enthusiasm. I learn so much from your videos because you teach with such passion. You are truly the best!!!! (Plus it helps that you're not trying to sell anything)
I was in the Hospital from an injury sustained from Boxing at an earlier age from Blunt Force Trauma- First off- Do NOT drink- Period- and if you are hurting; pain radiating to the back- Do NOT drink Anything, including water!
duuude! you´re awesome... I´m a student ( from mexico), I don´t understand the english lectures at all but, this video with the "GET CRASHED" is very great! You´ve earned a subscriber
Was suffering from some serious gallstones problem with some real painful gallstones pain. And was awaiting surgery to remove my gallbladder. Then around 2 weeks before surgery, I woke up one morning and felt nauseated and started to puke up pure blood vomit. Just blood pretty much since I hadn't eaten much in the recent days either. Had to go straight to the emergency room and found out I had acute pancreatitis then. Got jaundice and other kinds of painful symptoms from it. As if having excruciating pain from gallstones wasn't enough. Had to stay at the hospital for several days and the first days not drinking any liquid (water including) and not eating any food either. Was just put on IV drip. Mentally I prepared myself for death (that's how painful it was). After being hospitalized for almost a week it went okay though. And a week after I had my surgery. Can't say enough how happy I was after it was all said and done. That pain was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life (gallstones pain) plus the problems with the acute pancreatitis.
I have Pancreatitis. No one, including the doctor, has explained anything to me. Hardly any info on the web. And, then I found you and your videos. You make it all very plain.
I am an IT professional and came here for information on AP and this was great. I have subscribed to the channel and I am spending more time on medical videos than technology :-).
You have a way of breaking down information that is understandable with use of diagrams for application. So much better that trying to memorize. Biliary tree, awesome!!
thanks man, I am a nursing student and am now discussing this topic. Your video is very super cool and easy to understand. Thank you, keep them coming man. lol
my wife was just diagnosed with split pancreas duck and acute pancreatitis shes going for surgery for a stint next week does that mean they will have to put a stint in each one and they did not do a ct scan but a mri and her lipads level was 49000 5 day hospital stay on iv and pain meds her level went to 170
Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction causes spasm of the Sphincter of Oddi which, in turn, can cause pancreatitis. That could be S instead of scorpion stings.
