I think the bottom piece needs to be removed and put up top to fill in that gap, its better that the gap be on the bottom in case you need to blow off and hose off the patio. Other than that it looks fabulous :)
Looks great and will give you some peace of mind !!! I had a neighbor who asked how high I was going to let my baby cedars grow. " As tall as the other ones, 20', why ?!" "Well I won't be able to see into your yard." "EXACTLY. Have a good day." 😊❤
@elizabethjarret...Why people have to give too much hostility to others??? Life is hard, and there are wars in many parts of the world....Why do not be more frienly...???🤔🤔🙈🙈
Think that’s more important than people give credit for, sure a lot of places even mandate the beauty side be facing away from you, but if you can make both sides look good why wouldn’t you anyway.
I was so elated when my neighbors built a a privacy fence ! Literally was like “oh thank goodness I don’t have to see their yard anymore!” I seriously don’t understand the weirdos who complain about NOT being able to see their neighbor’s yards. Seriously get a life if that’s the only thing going for them. Your screen looks great, btw!
I've neighbors whose backyard is so cluttered with crap, I can't sell my house unless"I" put up a privacy fence. I'd have to take out a home improvement loan for that😢
Some jerk just bought the tiny lot in between my neighbor’s and my house. He proceeded to rip out my hedges along the natural privacy line and I’m so upset. Especially because he decided to scream at me when I pointed out that they were MY hedges and then tried to tell me he was doing me a favor bc he claimed the back of my garage is on HIS property (it’s not.) So, I spent $500 to have the survey company come out to make 10000% sure and now bc he’s such a psycho I have to get my lawyer to file an injunction along with a bill for my hedges. Idk what’s wrong with people. Glad your neighbors seem like sensible people, though!! We’ll be building a fence now since I’d prefer to never have to see him again. Definitely going to make sure it’s pretty ugly on the side he’ll have to look at 😂😂
I have an idiot neighbor who built his house directly across my driveway and now he complains about his lack of privacy. The kicker is that he owns 5 acres and could have built his home further down the road where he would have had all the privacy he could ever want.
I don't speak to any of my neighbors. That way, I don't care if/when they talk behind my back...like 99.99999% of neighbors love to do. It also prevents them from asking for favours or complaining on stuff I do or don't do.
I'm so amazed at what you did here. It's nice when you can give yourself the things you want and you don't need to wait for someone else. Great job. You go girl.
@@bookuroooverwatch161 So right. A bamboo screen or large tatami mat hung from hooks. Roll it up or down. And even some potted arborvitae lined up in a row. (Set black plastic containers in decorative ceramic pots. Easily moved & stored for winter.)
@@pushtostart1377 its pressure treated wood, that has moisture in it, plus its out in the elements, any little gap between the boards and the post, moisture can get in and rust out the nails. I would rather do it the right way, and use exterior fasteners any time working on outside projects. A few bucks more can save you a headache down the line. or you can "hope" they dont rust out. your choice.

This was my life before & during the lockdown having to do so much when i couldn't afford to hire anymore - inside and outside, painting, up/ ladders, heavy 6 ft platforms , lights, cabinetry, drywall, deck/ gazebo repair/ paint/ sprayer, insulation , trim, screens, tile, power washing, concrete repair , gardening, staining gutter painting, tub refinishing Sossoooo Much was in tears ALOT😂 many videos & pix but wasnt on Social media vey much until the lockdown began. These videos bring back alot & yet i enjoyed much of it and think about hiw to incorporate that interest & skills into the next chapter asi start over from the bottom up (newly 49🙂) into my life- thanks for posting & sharing because these were issues i had too in prior residences as most people have too- I Love it love it great Job -keep up the great work, 👏😃😇😇
AWESOME AND BEAUTIFUL! I was just thinking of doing something myself because my house/backyard are real close to my neighbors. They also have dogs and I want the privacy whenever I'm on my patio by myself or when I have company. I won't be able to do anything like that because I have a metal, wire fence, but any kind of lattice would be nice. You have given me a lot of ideas. You really matched the color on it. THANK YOU! You are really so very good!!! I LOVE IT! GREAT JOB!
The only thing that will help work against warping is to observe the grain of the wood, lay them against each other so that the grain is in opposite directions and nail or glue them together before mounting. Otherwise one has to live with the warping. 😉 A beam in the middle always spoils the aesthetic IMO.
@@robertthomas6127 hi ik this is a weird question but can i ask where u learned this? is there like a school or something i can take to learn these types of things? my dad was never able to teach me but i’d love to start trying
@@robertthomas6127 thank you so very much! i really appreciate you replying and taking the time to give me some good advice! i think i’m going to try to build something small to try my hand at it after researching☺️
Lol bwhahahaha because this was 100% paid for by Wagner-Spraytech and made to look and seem NOT like a commercial. Find this woman have her tell you the truth.
That is awesome! Also now you can add some hooks to the center of your outdoor living space and put some hanging flower baskets to make it really cozy. Maybe even a potted phoenix palm with some annuals around it. ❤
Plants above a seating area? Too messy when watering. Besides, there's a weight issue when soil is wet. A lightweight tapestry or painted canvas mural would be better.
The dance breaks are important... 😆 But as that damp, TREATED wood starts to dry and settle in, it's gonna curl away from those nail brads because they have no head. So you're gonna want to reinforce with 2 screws on each side of each board to keep them from lifting and peeling away from the poles. I used leftover drywall screws - 13 years in the Texas sun and still strong as Day 1.
Drywall screws are made of carbon steel and not coated, they will rust in a heartbeat. Furthermore treated lumber will accelerate the corrosion. Do youself a huge favor and triple coated deck screws and replace your drywall screws.
PRIMING wood, especially for outdoor applications, before finish paint color also does wonders for prolonging the life of a project, That paint is going to peel up faster than a sunburn.
Amazing job! I love the idea! Might have to do this for the south side of my back patio, not for privacy but rather as a windbreak. Kansas winds are NO joke.
I love a girl who knows how to do stuff! I am one of them well not a girl anymore a grown-up lady… But I still enjoyed tremendously building stuff around the house and well for my fun times I do culture so go girl go girl the rewards are phenomenal!
You should add the fancy spacer jig for those who wouldn’t figure that part out. You did a fine job, but their right below, you need to finish the top and put in a vertical board to add stability and keep the boards from warping.
I think it is a great idea and you did super on it! Love the color as well. My only rub was wishing there was one more piece at the top of the screen. It looks like a big gap 😅
I love the simplicity of it. If I were to do this, I would've brought the slats halfway up, left a large gap to hang plants in baskets, and finished the top with 3 slats to balance the look of the bottom. That way, it wouldn't impede the breeze, it wouldn't look as foreboding as a solid structure, it would give me the opportunity to display something beautiful, and it'd still give me privacy from the neighbors' gaze.
She left plenty of room for plants to hang on the rest of the patio! And the breeze can still come through the gaps here since it’s not a solid wall. Could always put a climber on this though if she wanted to add something, but I think it’s perfect as is. Purely to give a bit of privacy 😉
You cannot paint pressure treated wood for a whole year it comes packed with moisture from the treatment process and will evaporate peeling all of your paint guaranteed. They are also going to corkscrew overtime without a center spine coming across the middle of the boards to hold them all true overtime. This will be a homeowner special in 9 months.
Alex is right (it’s something I learned the hard way). It does look great now, but give it a few months and you’ll be wondering what’s going on. Wish I had known this before I painted a fence I have. Many of the boards twisted up and pulled loose and I was totally flabbergasted as to why at the time. Something you learn as a homeowner. Hope this doesn’t happen to you. It’s not something you can “fix” unfortunately
If you seal both sides of the 1x2 material it’s a lot less likely to warp or twist as much since being sealed on both sides helps keep the moisture from getting in the wood. Problem usually worse when one side isn’t sealed, then it will warp and twist like crazy! Regardless the horizontal boards still aren’t a bad idea anyway. Give it more of a lattice look!
Great job on you DYI project for screen for your patio porch you did excellent job on it! Cozy look. I like it. Use of Home Depot. Material s and spray and paint as well . . Good investment on that screen also good for temperature modification as well . Save energy cool or warmth si that s helpful . And confinds sounds to porch area as well for more privacy . Made add plastic tarp on raining days and also to limit winds so it has support to keep tarp from flipping. Use of screw on Hook s to be able to put on and off tarp with circle ⭕ holes on tarp on top and on bottom .. so cool i love it! Sounds like funto make . Thank you for sharing . Improves space .
That’s really nice. And you could make it so many different colors. Glossy white would be pretty. Also if you make it sturdy you can hang plants on it. It’s look gorgeous and you get a ton of planting space
Pressure treated wood has a high moisture content and needs to be dried before you paint it. Also, as those dry, there is a good chance they are going to warp. You don't need to use pressure treated wood if it's not going to come in contact with the ground. Regular wood and a finish is fine.
@Lisa Cunningham It wasn't my post but I'm a carpenter so I will answer.... When building in wood outdoors regardless of ground contact you either build in pressure treated wood, but you can't paint or stain for 3-6 months because of moisture content and aggressive off gassing.... Or you use non treated wood and you must stain or seal completely upon install especially with a UV block sealer
Oh gawd 🙄 it’s fine. You don’t know if she waited days in between buying the lumber and painting them. It’s not like she did this all in one day. She may HAVE waited a few weeks after buying them
Great job!!! And you have respect for you and us viewers who watch projects like this with our children. Keep up the amazing content and different ideas. I work all the time so everything I do involves my kids even watching short videos.
You also can plant some tall bushes close to the limit of your property, creating a green wall, in that way you do not need to limit your vision of your backyard.
If you want to paint it right away you need to go to a lumber yard and get KDAT pressure treated, which is Kiln Dried After Treatment and is paint ready and won't warp.
Tips: 1. For a cleaner look, put wood fillers along the crack lines 2. To avoid cracks when screwing, drill a pilot hole first 3. For those that have a table saw, joint the edges in some of those crooked planks to make them straighter 4. Use a primer
Today many paints contain primer and paint together. Your suggestions were good, but I don't think she was looking for perfection, just a quick project that matched the aged wood that was already in place.
It's quite beautiful! Great job on matching the color! I would have to take a pre- made lattice and paint it. And attach it to a frame if it needed to be temporary (as a renter would). Great job!
That is what I did with my nosy neighbor, but it turned out to be anything BUT free! We became great friends and now we go out to lunch together twice a week! lol
That's nice! I live in an apartment so I would have to just make a frame, screw the 1x4's to that, and then fix the frame to the uprights. That way I only have to take down the frame instead of 24 boards.
Pretty cool but since you have no support in the middle it's going to sag with time. If you want to keep that look I would suggest going and getting a length of thin steel cable, anchor to that overhead rafter and then run it down to the bottom slat while attaching it to each slat along the way. Then tension the cable to prevent warping and sagging
That if it lasts that long. Wagners are shitty Chinese crap. Might as well throw it away after one use, cause you'll be damned to expect it to work after packing it away for sometime.
I've have found sun screens are great for privacy as well ,I live in a condo and have 10 homes facing me with 3 more on side🙄 wow !❤ I love your place❤
The contents vary. One is controlled by the owner in the way she desires to share with the rest of the world, the other isn't. Nothing wrong about installing something in her own yard. If you're not interested in viewing the process, simply click away.
The most important part, never paint lumber that have been treated with chemicals the first year. Let it go trough weather the first year before you paint it. The lumber is still wet in the stores and the paint will maybe scale off
From one woman to another I’d suggest a vertical spine right down the center! I think you’re gonna have some problems real shortly with bowing & such otherwise! I’d get to that ASAP! Looks nice!

@@kevinhargro4001 What a bizarre comment, right? I know you said that you don't care, but she def doesn't speak for me, a woman, and probably not for the majority of us, either.
I did something very unusual with a privacy screen. My partner and I lived in a 3rd floor apartment with a balcony. Beyond our balcony was a parking lot, then a fairly dense copse of trees. We're amateur radio operators, and antennas in apartments are a problem. I had tried making what's called a "J-Pole" antenna for one of the bands I used the most out of copper tubing. Then I got a can of textured spray paint that almost exactly matched the color of the brick of the wall behind the antenna. You could not see that antenna at all from more than 5 feet away...but the downstairs neighbor would bang on his ceiling with a hammer every time I transmitted on it! Turns out the radio waves were radiating in all directions, including inside the building. They were coming across on the clock radio he had next to his bed, and he worked nights, so he slept in the daytime. Every time I transmitted, I woke him up! I didn't want to have him report me, so I gave away the J-Pole and built a different antenna. I got two matching garden privacy screens at the hardware store. They just fit on the sides of the balcony, and I zip-tied them to the railings. Then I made an antenna called a "Moxon Loop", for the frequency that was bothering the guy downstairs. I mounted it inside one of the privacy screens where it could not be seen from any angle. I tuned it up, and waited to see if the guy downstairs complained. A Moxon Loop has a nearly HEMI-spherical radiation pattern, so I set it up so the radio waves pretty much all went AWAY from the building, and almost nothing radiated TOWARDS the building. After a couple of weeks with no hammer banging on the floor below me, I declared victory! It had the side effect that we could sit on our balcony with privacy from the neighbors. They couldn't see through the wooden lattice of the screens, so win #2! The last win was to take a slingshot and fire a super-thin wire from our balcony into the trees across the parking lot, and hook it up to a tuner and a radio that can talk around the world, not just in the neighborhood. I contacted a lot of Western Europe with that antenna, and it was absolutely invisible against the sky, the wire was so thin! And because of the privacy screens, nobody could see that we had attached the wire to the balcony railing using a small wooden dowel as an insulator, tied to the railing with a piece of dental floss. We operated there for most of a year before we bought our house, and now it doesn't matter what kinds of antennas we use!
How did you slingshot the wire? Did you tie it to a bolt or washers or something on the end and launch that out there? I am a slingshot enthusiast and I love the idea of launching an antenna wire with it. Although, instead of launching into the trees, perhaps launching it up to the roof of my own building would have gotten better signal(?) perhaps. Does vertical vs. horizontal antenna make a difference in radio? I'm not sufficiently educated in this matter to know if my comment makes sense, and I want to learn. Hmm. I guess if you're on the 3rd floor it wouldn't be going that high, would it?
@@OhPervyOne Fishing sinker. For HF signals, a horizontal long wire or dipole is fine. An inverted-V dipole is even better because the ends lower than the center support affects the impedance, bringing it closer to the typical 50 ohm level. Polarization is only an issue in VHF and UHF signals. You want vertical polarization for them. But I have an HF antenna for 180-6 meters that's a vertical, and it works fine. But it had transformers built in that adjust the impedance of each band so the standing-wave ratio is acceptable. I actually need to build a new horizontal wire antenna. My old one was damaged by a truly epic wall of thunderstorms and wind a couple of months ago. It's no huge cost, I built it for only a few bucks anyway. I'll probably use better wire this time. I have a bunch of tinned copper stranded wire wrapped around a Kevlar fiber core and covered with a PVC jacket. It has an astounding tensile strength. If the balun at the house end is broken, that'll cost a bit more. I suspect one of the attachments to the balun broke off, and fixing that will put it back in service. Sorry for the technical babble, I've been building radios and antennas for going on 25 years.
@@JennyEverywhere the sinker seems like the perfect solution. Clamps on tight and flies right. That must have been fun. I'm okay with techno-bable. I learn more stuff by talking with people who know more than me. And anything I don't understand, I can look up. HAM is on my bucket-list. For emergencies, all I have is a pair of baofeng walkie-talkies. It'll have to do, for now. Thank you for interesting conversation.
I really like it. It's pretty easy to do I really like the idea. Thank you so much for your advice and the encourage. To do something for your own good, God bless you. ❤❤❤❤
You need to put screws in because those nails are for indoor trim and won’t hold up. Also, you have to let treated dry out before paint. A good rule of thumb is to wait till the water stops beading off the wood to paint. Other than that, nice work.
Pretty much, the only way to make it easier is to use a second spacer. Just saw it in half. Otherwise it doesn't matter it you go at it with a spray gun or roller and hammer.
Nice job! I would mention you have to be careful spraying outside. The spray can be carried by the wind to your neighbor's property and they are not always happy about that.
@@taraharvey8123 ...... I'm genuinely curious. Do you actually spray ANYTHING inside?? Like.... Regardless of the type of propelant used, I've never spray painted anything inside in my life.
