Melissa's father is Swiss, but her mother is from Haiti. That "Live in Cologne" show is the only live performance they did, in an empty club. They are a new band and all their tours have been canceled or postponed. There are/were at least 4 bands called Ad Infinitum, so it's a bit of a mess. I recently made a Wikipedia article on Melissa's band, but Google doesn't seem to like it for some reason 🙂 You said if you like this you might check out even more, so perhaps you should check out Evenmore, Melissa's former band 🙃

Haiti, that would explain Melissa Bonny's witchiness. Even her name sounds like some Salem witch. Plus she's inhumanly beautiful and talented.

I think these guys are all great. Ad Infinitum deserves some more recognition and attention. You might also like Vintersea, who also deserve some more ears and eyeballs on them. I'm not sure how you'd classify them, but they have made some really interesting videos and they are pretty solid musically. Female fronted, and Avienne gets those growls in too.

They had their concerts canceled because of covid. That one concert they did without an audience is all they have so far in terms of concert footage. They have an acoustic version of their album coming out this month.

Ad Infinitum genre is Symphonic Metal and Power Metal. Melissa Bonny has done a couple songs with a band Called FEUERSCHWANZ. The band did a couple covers one was Ding Seed Cover and the other one is Warriors of the World United. Also she has worked with Warkings on a couple songs. One song is called Sparta and the other song is called Odins Sons.

The concert in Cologne this year is (at least as I know) the only good sounding live performance of Ad Infinitum so far, as the formation is pretty new. It was an online show entirely for streaming due to pandemic, but gives a nice overview of their live capabilities. @MadGebs I'm with you, if you say Tatianas growls/screams are untopped so far, but Melissa does a respectable job there and her growls sound very good, but in combination with her beautiful clean voice it's simply amazing. Her other project 'Rage of Light' is, more or less, on ice currently as she focusses more on 'Ad Infinitum', but who knows, maybe on day she and Jonathan will do something more together again. Hey girl. This band is also new to me thanx to your reaction :) You mentioned something about female fronted bands where the vocalist growls. Here's a couple of bands you should check out. From Moldavia is "Infected Rain". Been around since 2008. Just as good as Jinjer. Really worth it. From Canada is "Spiritbox". Been active since 2017. Also worth a try.

I've never really listened to Infected Rain but Spiritbox is definitely a strong suggestion from me. Courtney is awesome and the band is excellent. Arch Enemy is probably one of the biggest female fronted growling vocals bands out there and they've been around for almost as long as Nightwish.

@@mn6334 Hey Kris. I assume you mean the old version of AE with Angela. Cuz she was the one who growled. Not like Alyssa who is more like a screamo. I prefer Angela by a long shot.

@@mn6334 technically, AE has been around longer than NW, but have only been female fronted since ~2000 or so. Their first singer was a guy, but Angela Gossow put the band on the map. Angela isn't as flexible as either Alissa or Tatiana but as a growling specialist her growls give Tati's a run for their money. I still enjoy all the things Tati can do with her growls more, but I have a ton of respect for Angela. Her growling style specializes in explosiveness and is very impressive. Unfortunately, as someone breaking ground in growling with demos going back to 1991 and who knows when she actually started growling (surely sometime in the mid-to-late 80s), she didn't have the benefit of the mistakes made by herself and others to learn from like later women growlers did and beat up her vocal cords pretty badly along the way and can't do cleans. I'd suggest Nemesis or We Will Rise, either of them from Tokyo are great, while We Will Rise MFVF 2010 is awesome too. Especially in Nemesis, she's only doing a few syllables at a time, but blasting out incredibly powerful growls in every line that make the song a vocally brutal masterpiece. I think of it kinda like burst damage vs sustained DPS in games, if that makes any sense - Angela is the queen of burst dps growls, but Alissa and Tatiana are better at stustained dps growls. Comparing Alissa's Wacken 2016 version is cool because you can see how Alissa adapted the song to her very different growling style, stringing lines together and using her more flexible but less explosive growls to their best advantage to make the song her own. Since 2016, Alissa has been pushing her growls into progressively more brutal directions and is closing the gap with Angela's vocal abilities. It doesn't hurt that Angela is the band's manager and presumably mentoring her as well.

@@uzurpon I'm a Jinjer fan so I don't have a horse in this race, but I'd suggest listening to Alissa's more recent work. It sounds like you haven't heard anything from her since Nemesis in 2016.

@@j.f.fisher5318 yeah, I was having some difficulty wording that. Maybe I should have said "they've been around about as long as Nightwish" instead. I'm also more of a Jinjer fan and to me the Alyssa/Angela debate is about the same as the Floor/Tarja debate for Nightwish fans.

I Love Melissa, she is so beautiful and talented! Another band with a female singer of color, is Oceans of Slumber, and trust me they sound fantastic even when they are not as dynamic as symphonic metal bands, they play a kind of Prog Doom Metal, and the voice is amazing, and some songs I can suggest are: "A Return to the Earth Below", "The Banished Heart", The Waters Rising", and "Winter"

They're like Evanescence with growls, and I'm certainly not complaining. :) I don't know what Melissa's heritage is but I'm pretty confident she has African heritage, especially from the close-up of her face in the beginning of the video for Rage Of Light's song Mechanicals - another band she is the lead singer for, though it isn't her band, unlike Ad Infinitum which is her band. They are just getting started at the worst possible time after doing a crowdfunding campaign about a year ago so there aren't any conventional live shows for them on YT that I've found. There is a full set performance of a virtual concert they did. It is good to start with this because the guy who founded Rage Of Light also does growls as backing vocals alongside her growls in their songs and his growling tone is almost identical to hers so people who start with RoL get confused about who is growling. I'd recommend both the studio video of Mechanicals and also there is a concert video of Mechanicals and some other songs by Rage Of Light though the sound quality isn't all that good. I feel like the difference between Melissa's growling power and Tatiana's is mostly experience, probably also a bit of physical maturity (Melissa is 27, Tati is 33), and that Melissa's growls are kinda where Tatiana's were in 2012 or so. She doesn't growl in every song, but I love it when she does. I Am The Storm is another good one from Ad Infinitum. She has also done featured vocals for several other bands on Napalm to get more exposure and I feel like she's got a bright future in metal.

Melissa Bonny has been one of my favorite female vocalists for about 4 years now. Ad Infinitum is a new band, if you like Melissa, be aware she has been in several bands you will need to check out. Most notably, Rage of Light and Evenmore, but also there is great material on her RU-vid page like her Kamelot cover Liar Liar from 2017 which I highly recommend you check out! Great band, definitely one of my favourite albums this year as well. Melissa is fantastic in all the projects she does. If you'd to check out another kick-ass woman of colour in the metal world, check out Frozen Crown from Italy. They're a power metal band, and one of their guitarists, Thalia Bellezecca, is of Cuban/Italian heritage.
