He is my favorite drummer for a reason really wish either TIJ was still around or at least that Adam was playing for somebody! It's such a shame for him not to be in music
I know!! I used to overlook Adam Gray cause I thought of him as like a "Junior" version of Matt Greiner. Now he has totally changed my mind, too legit!
As stated by Daniel, most of these fills are linear. The sticking at the beginning includes the six-stroke roll in triplet form (RllrrlR), an inverted paradiddle a la Dave Weckl (RllR-LrrL), single & double strokes on the kick drum (if and where gaps are placed), a five-stoke role alternated between different instruments on the kit (Rlrrl-Rlrrl) and single stroke rolls. He combines these idea in a linear fashion (meaning, not two drums are hit at the same time). Mix & match, get creative. :)
They start at around $500, and range up to $800ish! We also build custom ones! Search facebook for Greiner&Kilmer Customs, twitter @greinerkilmer, and very soon our full website will be finished!
I think he is saying that their playing styles are similar.. I'd imagine it is partly because Holland listened to Gray for sometime and played his music. None the less, they are both fantastic in what they do.
wait....... Matt Greiner, Adam Gray AND Grant McFarland, this is actually amazing, three of my favorite drummers collaborating, im more pumped than when i heard that Texas in July is playing here................. wait no im not, but still this is great
I've gotta say that it wasn't in any way fixed. None of the prelim judges had any idea who any of the contestants were, or what their drumming background was. They selected the top 5 who happened to be mostly SOR students. I'm glad you were there, though! I hope you had a good time!
The person I immediately thought of who matches all the things being looked for by the judges was Jon Karel. If you don't know him, look him up. He's super creative and super solid.
Can ANYONE explain to me how he does those single bass fills at the beginning of the video? I know diddles are involved but I don't know that hand patterns...HELP PLEASE!!! I MUST LEARN!!!
It's an Avedis for sure. I don't think they make too many variations under the Avedis line, and I believe the Oriental has different print, so look under their Avedis chinas. Looks like it may be a 20".
rough subtitles for what Adam was saying at the very end while playing: "Well.. This one time.. I thought 'hey! I should learn to play drums!' ... and that didn't turn out so well. *shreds* hah hah hah could you hear me?!"
I'm sorry, but anyone that says this guy is not talented and is a poser as some massive ego issues probably due to insecurities of some sort. excellent vid!
Hi Michael, As Adam played these fills extremely fast, it is extremely hard to depict the sticking.. But I can explain to you the basic idea :) If you took out the bass drum you would here empty gaps in his playing. That's where the kick goes. The entire idea of these fills is linear playing, meaning the hands and feet never play at the same time. You can research a few basic linear fills. Adam was just playing more complex ones, but at a very fast tempo. Linear is the way to go! -Daniel
Wow, I have the feeling that Adam's downplayed his talent over the years. I had no idea he was capable of the thing he just played (except the stick juggling; everybody knew about that). Absolutely loved, it, guys! I may see about submitting something for the contest. Dunno' if I'll win, but we'll see. :)
I don't personally like the band that Adam Gray is in and i'm not saying it right now because i'm getting Texas in July and August Burns Red confused (don't bash me, I don't listen to them and i'm just forgetting which one he is, my apologies), but I love this video and this man is talented.
