I've watched this video a bunch of times, because in my opinion Adam Jones has one of the best sounds of any guitarist. Now if only I could afford a Diezel head....
Those Diezel heads are insane. Maybe my ears aren't trained enough but I am really satisfied with just a tube pre-amp and a Vox tube amp. Played on it today, total cost w/o guitar is maybe 1500 euros. To me anything above that is just looking out for perfection.
@@johantitulaer1052 you're not wrong. mid level gear is just fine, high level gear like the VH4 and boutique amps are like Lamborghini's, a statement of wealth lmao. I use a Peavey 6505+ and am very satisfied with my sound.
Adam Jones stays on channel 3 of his Diezel VH4's pretty much all the time. Channel 2 of the Diezel VH2 is modeled after the VH4's channel 3. The VH2 is 2 channels and half the price.
I bet Adam felt bad when Frank died. I didn't know he passed until recently. That dude has been with the band for a long time. To me the most intriguing is that synthesizer on the floor with the pedals. I would love to try something like that.
And then you see an amp that you actually own in a rig rundown of the great Adam Jones! My life is complete (okay, it's the Roland that he only uses for the talkbox, an amp my dad gave me when I played a small gig, but nevertheless: I HAVE AN AMP THAT ADAM JONES USES/USED)--- now, where do I get the talent to play guitar at a level like that?
Love the video. But being a drummer. These guys spoke Neptune to me…… I seen buttons, boxes, knobs, switches and petals. I have no clue what any of them do. But I do know what comes out of them is so pure, genuine, thought reflecting and amazing. It’s in my bloodstream and soul and I need it daily.
Damn- now that's a rig- the pedals are pretty minimal but- the synths are super cool and those are some bad ass amps. I still don't understand how he gets that distortion sound he uses all the time- it has such beautiful, complex harmonics in it- the waves sound very squared off and separated- you can almost hear each individual peak. I bet it's that MXR dyna comp combined with the Marshal and the humbuckers I'm hearing. I don't know if anyone else knows what I'm even referring to- but I bet Adam would. You only hear it plainly when he hits like a power chord and holds it for a second- it's an amazing distortion- the best I've ever heard. I have synesthesia- it just means you associate certain color or images with sounds- that's one way it manifests itself anyway. The image in my head that goes with his sound is very odd- it's a metal grill like you see on a barber's clippers- you know, the grill that sticks out and keeps the razor from contacting your skin. It's big though- like it's on some huge industrial machinery or something- and I can hear that sound emanating from it. One of these days I'm going to animate what I'm seeing in my head digitally- imo it captures their sound so well- it is their sound. The colors I see with it are chrome and black.
@@lxxwj I've played through those amps though- and it didn't sound right, he's adding something somewhere somehow. I will say I didn't hear it when I saw them live- they still had a great sound but this aspect was missing. But tbh it was so loud- it's hard to say, I don't like going to concerts for this reason- they have it so loud it loses so much nuance and articulation at times it just sounds like mush. Tool did better than most, I will say that- it never sounded like mush but- it wasn't their best show. The venue (Little Rock) sucked- it was way over policed, no alcohol after 9 o'clock, no cigarettes, nothing allowed- and cops everywhere, arresting ppl left and right before show started. But it put the crowd in a shitty mood, and I think the band could tell that- they tried and they played beautifully, of course- didn't miss a lick, but the energy wasn't there. It felt like they just wanted to get done and go- and tbh I felt the same. I was kind of glad when it was over.
@@stoneysdead689 you'd need to play through all 3 amps, at the same time and with the same cabinets that he has. he uses duncan distortion pickups from the 90's as well. im sure its the 3 amp setup that really gives his tone the nuance
For real.. MXR does their typical.. roll out the hipster and talk over the guy who knows things. Terrific. And the camera guy.. dude it's a RIG rundown not a personal interview. Show the GEAR, not faces
The cabs explain why I spent years playing the bass parts on guitar without even realizing it. It's almost like the guitar holds down the low end AND the high end. And the bass is crushing the high end AND the low end. It's why NOBODY sounds like Tool.
You can now buy the 535q crybaby, which is the next pedal on my list. Good to know that's what he uses. gotta make some adjustments to my board now for sure.
That was a mistake...it is not a 535q. Adam uses its predecessor which is called the BB535(black) or the CB535(chrome). There are also different revisions of that wah. Rev 1 says nothing, then rev 2 and 3 are listed on the bottom. Adam is believed to use rev 2 but there is no real difference between the revisions except for the pot. You want the BLACK pot
Someone please tell me his EQ pedal settings....I cant see from pictures!! mids are cranked on the amp but the pedal he flattens everything except the highs....someone help
That's his primary Super Bass, but it's not his only one. In the Reading '93 pro-shot, he's running another one alongside this one that has the more common rocker switches. That other Super Bass can be seen during most Ozzfest '98 footage.
I know, it was so bad. I remember a ZZ Top one that at the same time the people were saying what a beautiful color a guitar was, they threw on a black and white filter.
Rare opportunity to see the gear rundown, and you barely got any info. Learn how to ask really questions about his gear. Any other gear rundown video averages 40 minutes. Wtf
The talkbox works by disable the sound from the main amp and comes out of the amp in the pedal through the tube. When he “talks” with it, the mic picks up the sound which plays through the Roland Cube with the sustain pedal.
@@peterliesel6020 what was that red pedal used for extra sustain ahead of the Roland Cube amp though? Looked like some kind of MXR pedal, but not sure which kind.
"What's a Talkbox?!?!?" Jesus Christ, I feel ancient at this moment!! Come on man! Aerosmith, Peter Frampton, Nazerath, Eagles, Steely Dan.....i could go on....but damn dude!?!?!
RIP, Chris was a pleasure meeting you... wish you'd have let me know where my Eclipse ended up, but then none of us knew you'd be leaving us so very prematurely.
