Khan yes, in foods where bugs are not intentionally put therefore are not listed as ingredients they are, but it is part of some vegan diets to not eat anything that has red dye or intentional bugs on it. It’s a very specific kind g of veganism especially since Peter Singer, the most famous philosopher to talk about animals beings sensients beings and who most vegans follow does not mention bugs in the category of beings who are able to have feelings. I personality don’t exclude things with bugs from my diet but being vegan excludes most things that have them just by not having sweets (most have milk or eggs) candy with red dye (most have gelatin in it) so in a way we do eat less bugs then most people but it’s not like we actually worry about it, besides some very specific groups of vegans

@@zikry4787 Not really. Usually from what i know of bugs they are objective based thinkers and lack the intellectual capacity to think outside of what thry're supposed to do. Like eating, feeding their colonies, finding shelter and mating. If they die it's not exactly as important as like an animal cuz bugs breed like crazy. But hey, I don't really care either way, I'm not against killing animals for food at all.

A friend and I were at school one day when they were serving "spooky" dishes. One of them was roasted crickets. My friend and I both dared each other to eat a cricket so we counted to 3 and took a bite. We were both surprised by how... not bad it was. It was a little bland, probably could have used a little seasoning or something, but they actually would go really well with hummus or some kind of dip. We kept eating them because they were the best-tasting thing there, lol.

1) bugs are bad for you. They will give you rabbit starvation. 2) the places that eat bugs, they don't just eat bugs. They eat chicken, pork, beef, and fish as well. 3) there are bugs toxic to humans in the same way chocolate is to dogs. In small quantities virtually everything becomes acceptable to the human body. That doesn't mean you should start drinking mercury. 4) the FDA regulates bug parts because they are toxic and they carry a lot more diseases. Eating bugs is not healthy unless you're using them to lose weight, but you can just eat rabbits for the same effect and exact same problem.

I just looked up "why you shouldn't eat bugs" and got a list of links either explaining why you should for health reasons or why in-spite of those benefits the sustainability is over hyped. None of the results said anything about Bugs being unhealthy despite specifically using search terms that should be biased in favor of such articles.

It's a matter of perception on what "vermin" even is, it's something that changes with the times. A couple centuries ago, the idea of feeding people lobster was considered inhumane, as they were essentially the "rats of the sea", and even giving them to prisoners was too low for much of society. Now they're a delicacy that's associated with wealth and fine dining. Besides, even considering just modern day perception, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN estimates approximately 1/4 of the world regularly consumes insects intentionally as a part of their regular diet. That's a hell of a lot of people, and from a lot of cultures and backgrounds that do well enough for themselves, not just the poor and starving.

I like how the most improbable part of the food crisis as portrayed in Blade Runner 2049 is that they eat the bugs whole, when in reality they would likely be processed to separate the protein food source (and would probably be processed into a nutrient bar or paste) from other parts that would be used for things like food dye, preservatives and edible hardening compounds.

That's what I was wondering about ! I'm not a native English speaker but I was pretty sure bugs refered to insects only (edit : just checked, wiktionnary says : 1) (colloquial, US) Any insect, arachnid, myriapod or entognath. 2) (entomology) An insect of the order Hemiptera (the “true bugs”).

They both have exoskeletons and multiple legs, so Lobsters in a sense are just a giant bug if you think about it. But when you look at all the benefits I think eating bugs (more) makes perfect sense anyway

...that's literally not what they're saying. Theres no reason to limit how many bugs are eaten. It's actually been proven that eating bugs is healthy. Not to mention, pretty much the only reason humans consider bugs "gross" is because colonialists saw natives eating them and deamed it savage behavior.

Its exactly what they are saying. The entire videos talks about how processed foods already have bugs in them and doesn't dedicate much time to arguing for using bugs as food. It has nothing to do with colonists seeing natives eating it, most regions with the most influential countries haven't had widespread use of bugs as food.

I've always felt, as soon as you give me a bug burger that looks like a normal hamburger and tastes similar, I'm good. I support eating bugs, but my mind makes me nauseous when I attempt to buy a cricket bar where you see the crickets. Make it ground up in a way that I don't see or feel legs or antenna and I'm there.

I have eaten one of those before, from some sort of maggots, you could even still see some of the skin and things in there. It tasted different, but I have had worse hamburgers from a certain clown. If eating them means I can continue to consume as much protein as I do now for the same price that's a no-brainer. It's processes protein, what do I care where it comes from, most people don't eating cows or chicken, case in point how shocked they are over the conditions those are usually held in. Plus, heck taking up a job as bug-farmer just has a cool sci-fi vibe to it.

For me the problem is the texture of bugs rather than the taste. My brother shared with me a bag of fried crickets, and they tasted fine, but they kept getting stuck in my teeth and the crunch was very unique and unpleasant.

The bugs are not the ones generating those diseases. In all the cases u mentioned, they were only a vector of transmission. Most diseases come from zoonotic diseases from cattle to human

Phylum Arthropoda, Class Crustacea, is Lobsters, Crayfish, Shrimp, Prawns, Krill, Woodlice, and Barnacles. Lobsters Definitely look like bugs, but they ain’t. And I’m Really shocked that Conover didn’t know this simple thing.

I tried it when I was on vacation there and it tastes realy good with garlic butter. I have also tried insects in the past. they taste fine, but not very exciting.

Just about the first thing in this video is a fallacy (false equivalency). "If you've eaten a lobster or a crayfish you've eaten a bug. They're both arthropods." Well, I guess, by that "logic" I'm a cannibal. I've eaten cows so I've basically eaten humans. They're both mammals so I'm going to imply they're both the same thing. Same goes for the second fallacy - suggesting that, because we unintentionally eat parts of insects in our food, which make up a miscue percentage, we should therefore deliberately eat insects is like saying that, because a food may contain small amounts of saturated fat we should deliberately eat blobs of saturated fat. Just because food contains a small amount of something doesn't follow that we SHOULD deliberately eat that thing.

@@Redmanticore of course he's wrong that time cause he wasn't given a script that tells him what to say. You see these shows aren't made instantly nor by 1 person. Adam doesn't do research nor make the script. Writers make the script while the research team- well it's obvious. All has and does is sit there, look pretty, look into the camera and say what the script says. Essentially an anchorman but instead he doesn't read off a teleprompter. He seems smart on the show but that's just what they want you to think to keep you watching, same reason why some people will immediately believe whatever a scientist will say "Cause scientists are smart". Also not to mention if people think your smart then they'll usually listen to what you have to say but I can guarantee he's not smart and he has no idea what he's talking about. He's just a puppet and D-list actor, nothing more. He didn't earn his smidge of Fame, he was put there cause he knew some politcal friends.

I have issues with you stating only 40 percent of a cow is consumed. If you consider that the bones are used to make bone broth, hide for leather and gelatin. The percentage being consumed is much closer to 100%.

It's not going to be close to 100%, but yes, we do use more of the cow than just the choice of cuts of meat. Including organs that are as safe to eat as any part, but not as palatable to some humans. The show probably should have just said that cattle take longer to grow to market weight than most animals we can raise for food.

In any case he's at worst wrong. Not illogical. His conclusions follow from his claims, so as long as the base claims (about health benefits, environmental benefits ect) are true the conclusions (we should take advantage of the bugs as a food source) are also true. If you want to say that he's using bad info or is lying or whatever then that's one thing. But the word for that is not illogical, that tracks something different.

Bugs aren't sentient, they don't count. They're at least not being intentionally harvested in nightmarish industrial farms like fish, poultry and mammalian livestock. And even if they were, they wouldn't feel it. Insects simply do not possess the neurological scope of perception that humans and other animals do.
