Summer vacation is actually necessary if 17 year old kids decide to enlist in the military and go to basic training. Imagine taking that much time off of school if summer vacation wasn't a thing. You would be so far behind you'll probably have to spend an extra year in school, which you might not be able to since you could get deployed...

Michaela. There is a book by Hannah Fry the mathemathics of love. The point of the book is to make people understand in what ways math can be helpful in peoples lives. There is a chapter were she explains okcupid alogrithm. If you want I can send you a sample of that chapter.

I stopped receiving possible match emails as soon as I started paying. The few notification emails I did receive in those three months had the person switched to that they found someone by the time I could do anything hours later. As soon as my subscription ended after I cancelled, I started receiving emails again every day. Not sure you missed anything by being rejected.

Some of the worst dates I've had in my life were from dates I met on sites that cost the most to use. eHarmony is a waste of your time and your money. Trust me on that one. You can not use an algorithm to tell if there is going to be chemistry between two strangers.

You don't have to believe it is science. You just have to be desperate enough to want to believe something has to work and you will be willing to pay anything. It is rather slick marketing to draw in those that think they suck at finding a date themselves. Why not let the machine do the work for you? It can't be any worse at it than you. Except it costs something like $40 a month and you can fail on your own for free.

Even though the eHarmony thing is spot on, I don't feel like it's fair to say dating sites have no idea what they're doing. Just matching the desired characteristics, whether they want kids, what religion they are etc, takes a lot of guess work out of the equation

I've held the theory that those matching algorithms are b.s. for a long time. My girlfriend and I had the lowest match percentage on OKC of anyone I ever went out with on that site, and yet I have way more in common with her than any of the other girls I dated.

OKC wings it, but they've got some heavy hitters on their data science team. Their algorithm is (was?) bayesian based, which is one of the best methods for probability calcs, like "what's the chance that we'll get along?". That was years ago. Hopefully by now they've moved on to machine learning. Recommender systems like what Amazon uses to suggest products would probably be even better than what they had originally, provided they could get feedback from people on their dates. You can (and they do) measure personalities by asking questions, too, though, yo. I mean, consider: how do you find out somebody's personality on a date? You talk and exchange information and ask questions and stuff. Your brain is doing some very simple algorithms there, too, a lot of which can be done up front by a site to save you from going on quite as many dud dates. It doesn't need to work miracles to still be well worth the time in improving your experience.

The algarithim is probably choosing two people who have the most things in common from their bio. Like say someone almost has almost an identical bio. They would probably match you up. Isn't the 'algorithm' just matching people with similar interest? I thought that's the reason they ask you a bunch of question when you sign up. Unless they are doing random BS mathematics behind the scene to 'match' you, then yeah I can see why there's no real science involved.

On OKC, the questions you ask also prompt you to say what answers to the same question you find acceptable from the other person. This allows something significantly better than matching interests, because it easily allows for complementary but not identical answers, a simple example being "I an a sub" and the other saying "I am a dom" -- in that case, you want the opposite, not a match, but since it allows you to mark that you find the opposite acceptable and not the match, it will do this correctly. You can also rank how important you find the question so that it will score them differently. It's pretty simple, but then again, discussing topics and judging these things on a first date is ALSO pretty simple, so... I'm not sure why it really needs to be that much more complicated to get the job done (which is just providing you reasonable initial filtering, not finding you true love instantly)

Essentially yes. One of the things that made OKC so awesome back in the day was that they would regularly release their analysis of what people were doing and what was working. There were also interesting facts about the population as a whole. It's a shame that there isn't a dating site that matches people based upon what they actually respond to rather than what they say they want. Women in particular have a well earned reputation for dating any type except what they claim to to be their type.

There is no scientific way to calculate how compatible two people are. You can make guesses based on the most obvious things that could make two people incompatible (one hates smoking and the other is a smoker, i.e.) but overall, people are complex and so are their personalities, and finding out if someone is compatible with you can only be done by getting to know the person.

When I'm on a dating site I have my own steps to find a guy that I like. Sadly I can't talk to anyone because of sub fee's but soon I'll be able to and get in to the dating game. I'm 30 and my life sucks. My only hope is to find a man that works with my steps and then go from there. Then life won't suck anymore.

Consider the option of not meeting through a dating site. Maybe something on a discussion site, in a room with shared interests. Try looking at your favorite youtubers or games, and see if they have a dedicated Discord server. Discord is free... Not sure how the steps will apply though.
