This was a great, one. Adam looked simple yet cool as can be in that Mercury suit.

It would be hard to miss Adam, his costumes are always so awesome and mostly vintage stuff vs. newer anime/videogame related :-P

That suit is magnificent!

Just saw an actual real Mercury capsule in a flight museum yesterday! That thing looked SO crapped! Wow, those guys were heroes!

I know I'm late to the party on this (and thus probably will never get read by anyone on Tested) but I remember Adam saying that he had hearing aids, bluetooth ones in fact. I wonder how difficult it would be to rig up a binaural microphone setup that tied into them. That would allow Adam to actually hear even when he was in a costume with a really elaborate cooling system. Plus, make it once, refuse it a hundred times.

I really enjoyed his 3rd and final one. Probably the 4th or 5th one I've watched lol

Two things, First, do Will and Norm follow you around throughout the walk? If so, that seems like a sort of big hint. Second, you should give the person who finds Adam a small like 10 to 15 minute interview with him as a little reward. He can ask questions about the costume, mythbusters, or other things that he might have wanted to know. If he/she is able to pick him out of a crowd like that, they are obviously a fan and I'm sure would really enjoy that. You could even have them come eat with him after the walk in his room or something. I just thought it might be a neat prize for being such an Adam fanatic.

Man, I thought I really liked the Apollo era suits best, but that silvered suit just looks magnificent & maybe even a bit like what those helmet pressure only suits will be like. I think I should try to make a Cosmonaut suit with A. Ondusko on it.

A suggestion for the helmet- Look into a flight helmet liner/skullcap. It'll keep you a bit cooler and keep the inside lining of the helmet from getting funky from sweat/skin oils. Much easier to toss a semi-disposable skullcap in the laundry than cleaning the bonedome liner.

That Ripley in the Caterpillar figure is one of the coolest figures I've ever seen. Bet it costs a grand though.

You should try to find an old CPAP machine and use the fan from that. It is designed to be quiet. If you can get that to work off a battery you could have air movement and still hear.

If you have camera crew following you around people are bound to put two and two together and spot you. How about not having any crew around, just station them at far away points and have them zoom in to "follow" Adam instead of actually walking beside/around him.

fantastic suit... but i was just wondering... if the air vent is connected thru the neck area, wont it help lessen the noise impact? plus u get air ventilated thru ur head to perhaps upper chest area? wont that be better?

Adam! you could put two mics at the front with the output going to in ear headphones, this would 1)cut out the fan noise and 2) give you stereo hearing of what is happening outside of the helmet(i recommend taking apart a Zoom H1 for the mics ;) ) awesome suit!

Has no one made an Adam incognito cosplay? :P To make it perfect you should be a few, so someone can be a cameraman and someone Norm and/or Will. :)

Perhaps helmeted costumes like this should have a line-in intercom system to be able to hear people over fans and things.

A thought I just had would be to place a mic in the Com dangle on the left side of the helmet...hidden up there it would not bee seen but you could hear very well...

It's kinda late, but using ventilation systems like on mascot suits would keep you cooler. Maybe a battery pack belt, hooked to smaller fans around you lower back, ankles and base of the neck. As long as the costume is bigger to allow for it, the fans could be incorporated into the design. Fans on the ankles and back blowing cooler air in, and the one on the base of the neck pulling hot air out. But, again, it would only work with bulkier costumes I would think.

What about swapping the fan for a compressed air system? One of those small carbon fiber tanks used for paintball would probably do the job a lot more quietly.

Wonderful stuff. Seems bad that you must leave the close-up glasses behind. No skeletonized frames? How about a sports frame with an elastic strap? Cool work.

Does anyone ever think that maybe what gives Adam away at the Cons are that he has cameras and familiar faces following him around? Haha.

With a Mercury suit that good, you should have taken a trip to the San Diego Air and Space Museum for a walk through. :)

For cooling the suit it might be interesting to make a small motorised bellows rather than using a fan, that way you could make it silent.

I thought everyone at Comic Con had really good costumes but when you get next to any of Adams costumes, the rest look cheap Halloween ones.

Maybe the blower from a used CPAP machine would be quieter. I cannot hear my machine when I am using it.

The hearing prolem with the fan reminded me of those 3d stereo haircut mp3s. I don't know if their algorithm is OS, but putting in 2 mics and feeding each to one channel of a pair of heaphones shouldn't yield a terrible result... maybe. And then, how much more work is it really to add a tiny little cam to the front..? :D From there to streaming the real comic-con suit experience would be a small step for Adam... but a great leap of awesome for us, youtube-fed hikikomoris!!

Surely adam would have found a way to create a quieter ventilation system by now, maybe not running the fan so incredibly fast would help as a little airflow is better than switching from maximum to nothing.

simply to add hearing ability, he should take that little thing on the left of the helmet that isn't being used for much besides decoration and mount a microphone that can link to a blue-tooth ear bud in his helmet so he can actually hear people XD

Adam, You might want to try (operable word, "try") to use a newer CPAP machine instead of the fan. If you can make it run off of batteries, some of them actually cools the air as well as circulates the air and they are made to run whisper quiet (so people can sleep). Just a thought. Great costumes BTW! I hope to see you at Dragon*Con someday.
