I'd love to learn how you solved the reflection issue the yellow causes when wearing those Dewalt goggles. I'm personally prone to Ocular Migraines and my glasses alone can cause an issue. The Dewalt goggles cause a double ghosting effect due to not eliminating enough light penetration through the silicone surrounding the large plastic lens. For me I end up seeing my own eyes looking back at me while wearing those. Personally I've looked into dying, or painting the silicone to improve the light blocking, but I've yet to find a good solution.

Eye doc here. I’ve seen the horrific things and I’ve treated those horrific things. The Dewalts are hands down my favorite. They are what I wear in my shop. And they are what I recommend to patients. Heck yeah! I looked at my Amazon history and saw that I bought a pair of these about 3 years ago. I routinely wear them over my rx glasses (or even sunglasses, depending on where I'm working.) Had a chunk of plywood come off a table saw about a year ago and hit me square in the bridge of my nose. Probably would have cut me real well had I not had these on, and a few mm to either side could have been a bad day. The googles just have a little scuff there.

Here’s mine : About 5 years ago and just before I went to work in the morning I decided in my wisdom that it would be a good idea to use the dremel to shorten a tiny bolt that was just a tad too long. Annoyingly I couldn’t find my safety goggles, and thinking it would just be a 5 second job I carried on. Didn’t feel anything dramatic initially, but an hour after the job was done I felt that there was probably some dust on my eye - tried washing that off but no joy. It started hurting like crap the next day, so off to the hospital I went.. The eye specialist took a look through the scope and said “it seems there is a metal shard lodged in your eyeball.. and it was probably quite hot when it impacted cos it’s caused a burn... and it’s started to rust...” 😱😱😱😱 Long story short, he managed to get the shard out of the eye (thankfully it was 3mm off and on a part of the eyeball where I wouldn’t notice the scarring), And I’m perfectly fine today. So goggles, everyone!

I purchased these goggles along with a nice case for them on Amazon, and I already love them! Thanks, Adam, for a great suggestion. I have several other tools you've recommended in m cart to buy as money permits. I wanted to share my story of eye damage. I have managed to escape eye damage from most dangerous maker projects, shooting guns, and lots of yardwork. But a long time ago I did landscaping for a living and was hurriedly flinging pine bark mulch out of the back of a truck into a new flower bed to get done and go home for the day. I managed to get a tiny piece of bark lodged in my eye. What a painful injury! I also had to go to the eye doctor to get it removed, and she said it scratched my eyeball. It was sore and burning for several days after that. I was super careful from then on. I plan to use these goggles both for maker projects and yardwork such as weed whacking. Thanks again for the great suggestion.

My pops worked on a shop floor all his life. He had the side shields and safety rates lenses, too. As long as they sit up on your face they're fine. It was easier to remove because it had lost all momentum by then and basically fell in but those are still no guarantee. Goggles look like better protection to me.

Yep. I like those. I find when using an angle grinder, the cooling fan in the tool sometimes blows air right at my face and regular safety glasses will not stop the air from swirling around the edge and carrying stuff into my eyes. I even use those when mowing (riding mower) for the same basic reason; light dust, grass and wood particles get kicked up into the air and the air swirls around regular safety glasses. Goggles work much better.

thanks for the review. I wanted googles to fit over my glasses for riding a motorcycle (local joy riding at low speed). I didn't have anything and then the last ride a small pebble got kicked up and went in my eye. I researched so many google options but I read a lot of negative reviews (too small, obstruct vision, fog up). these look nice and comfortable and also the best part is the price (it's worth for me to order / test out).

It's crazy, I just got my new DeWalt Safety glasses in the mail yesterday. I don't need glass covers, but I got them becasue they are "fog resistant". I visit automotive factories frequently and having a nice set of safety glasses is a real plus. Some of the cheap ones they supply are really sucky and now that we have to wear surgical masks the fogging is a real pain. The importance of protecting your eyes can not be over stated.

Thx for the recommendation, I just got mine after watching the video...best safety googles I've ever had! I also wear glasses so these are amazing. I got them for woodworking but the seal is so good that I just might wear them outside for covid protection. Thanks!

Those Dewalt goggles really are the best. I use them with a 3M half mask respirator and they are super comfortable as goggle and masks go. I wish I had started wearing them earlier in life for painting and cutting, but better late than never.

I've always worn safety glasses WITH side shields and found them to be comfortable and also had some air circulation so they didn't get as hot as goggles.

Some parts don't grow back! Never compromise on protecting those. I was once cutting the exhaust off my car with an angle grinder, wearing the standard blocky safety glasses with side-guards, and a hot shard found its way in anyway. Sometimes there is no replacement for sealing to the face! Only time I've been to the doctor for a making-injury, and fortunately it turned out my cornea was just burnt, nothing left behind embedded. Another time I was shooting a brad-nailer into the edge of some MDF ...upwards ...and I was above it. No safety glasses like a fool. One blew out and I got pelted in the eyes with what turned out to be wood bits, but later found the nail lodged in the ceiling drywall! I still have that nail as a reminder. As we say in the motorcycle world (at least those of us who both ride fast and continue to have skin), All The Gear, All The Time folks!

I love my googles. I barely use it...but I use it under the car. I like how the dust doesn't go thru the side. I'm finally taking stagecraft...and one of the PPE is googles.

Safety glasses saved me an eye. Drill in a drill press snapped, raw end punched the center of the left lens, bounced up from the floor before I had time to blink. Factory rules that I was wearing specs, but it made a convert of me.

This channel is such a treat. I think I'd still be star struck, but don't you just feel like you know Adam? I think it'd take very little time to just fall into a normal friendly conversation with him after the celebrity wore off. I think the desire to learn from him would quickly overtake anything else. Really sad about Grant, as I'd always assumed I'd be able to talk to him about re-designing wheelchairs, but I still hope I get to pick Adam's brain someday.

The two most important lessons I've learned today (1) - When searching for Adam Savage's videos, spelling is important. "Adam Savage Testes" doesn't necessarily return the same search results as "Adam Savage Tested" and (2)- Good safety goggles are worth their weight in gold. Adam, while you're at it, check out "RZ Masks". Good stuff.

Regarding being lucky. I have used angle grinders a lot during the years, both at work and hobby like working on cars. I have always used googles like the one you (Adam) show here, both for grinding discs and cutting discs. Last time I used an angle grinder I used it to cut of a rusted fastener on a car with a thin cutting disc. This time I choose to wear a full "face shield" because it was close. This was also the first time a cutting disc exploded and most of the disc hit my "face" or in this case the mask. So just a tip for people using thing cutting discs, of course it's most important to protect your eyes, but it can do a lot of damage on other parts of your face too so wear a full "face shield"

As someone who spends a lot of time on the water, the advice in this video is also absolutely applicable to PFDs (life jackets). They can only save your life if you wear them, and so many people don't wear the ones they have because the ones they have are uncomfortable. It is so important to find one that is comfortable because once you have a PFD that is comfortable, you are a million times more likely to actually wear it.

My foreman once had a chip bounce in over the top of his glasses and fuse his eyelids shut. But typically we had no incidents with the wrap around style the company provided. I've never had an eye accident at work but once got superglue in my eye gluing up tyres for RC racing. When I peeled back the tyre to drop superglue in between it and the rim, it slipped from my thumb and the surfaces slapped together and shot the glue straight at my eye. I got very lucky in that the anesthetic and dye they used washed it out seconds before they were about to scrape it.

Great advice. I prefer a full face shield. It stays fog free better than goggles. It's offers some throat protection. It's also polycarbonate. I can fit a dual filter 3M mask underneath it as well. After having a sliver of railway removed from my eye with a rotating Dremel style magnet at an ophthalmologist as a child while vacationing in Paris, I can say that eye protection and lung protection are the best shop safety devices you can spend on.👍

As a ( former ) gigging trombonist I’ve always subscribed to the method of “if I find a piece to the hard machine, ie any part that goes in or on the trombone or replaces a part of it, that works better than what I have now I spend time in the practice room to find out what can achieve the same result by simply improving the soft machine ( me ). There’s a difference here that I don’t need to spend another $300 on a mouthpiece if I can just practice my craft, but you do need to spend $15 on goggles if your current ones don’t fit or are scratched up. There are grey areas, but generally a musician can achieve great flexibility with simple tools most of the time, but a maker has a much larger tool box and needs more specificity

Well as a glasses wearer and hearing aid user I ended up biting the bullet and buying prescription safety glasses , there was just not enough room behind my ears for the arms if any over specs - these look pretty good though and for the price you cannot complain. Thanks for the tool tip!

As a glasses wearer who has a pair of these, I can attest to how nice they are. Adam’s 100% right about them. They’re comfortable and cheap, and fit over my glasses really well. My only real complaint is that they do sometimes like to take my glasses with them when I take them off, but that’s a minor inconvenience.

You can get shields for the earbows of your glasses that are shatter resistant so you have total wrap around coverage of your eyes while still wearing glasses but without the pressure on your nose.

I use the dewalt safety glasses (not goggles) all the time, both for the safety aspect and because I get the bifocal ones. I work in a lab deprocessng integrated circuits. So everything is small, the magnification the bifocal gives me helps out a lot. I have the glasses straps on them. There are two pair on my desk at work, one pair on my desk at home and another tinted pair at home for working outside.
