I think my favorite part of this is that Adam was actually having Allie work instead of just showing her his tricks. It's great that he's trusting her competency and letting her learn.
I liked that he didn't fuss over the details. That's such an important lesson, especially for someone like me who is too often a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist can kill the love of something for a lot of people and I really respect how Adam just let her do her thing. You can see that each of these were all a bit different. Some were rougher than others, but it all adds to the experience for her and us.
What I liked was he didn't hover (much) it was "this is how it's done.... your turn and I'm going over here to line up the next thing" although the difference in confidence in the brush strokes was lovely. Adam: splish splash sploosh (but with a practices eye) and Allie: much more tentative.
@@ohnhai it's just experience. It was a nice contrast to watch Adam go ham, Allie take her time. And the end product, obviously with a helpful hint here and there, came out the same. And the fact these are going to be movie used props, and hes still just going, this is how it's done, there ya go and then just leaves her to do her thing. Just beautiful.
Imagine doing prop work for a Ghostbusters movie at 14! That's like the coolest thing to have on a resumé. Kudos to Adam for being a mentor, and treating Allie not just like a student, but a colleague.
I love how Adam was talking about how props can walk off a film set and then you see McKenna Grace plotting to do exactly that the minute she sees the whistle. 😂
Adam , we all see your enthusiasm and enjoyment in making props etc on these one day builds . It goes up a level when working with someone else but I think it's fair to say you have even more joy working alongside a younger maker 👍👍
It's really heartwarming watching how patient Adam is in sharing the experience with Allie. That's the kind of opportunity she'll remember for years to come, not to mention every time she sees the movie! Well done, Adam!
Saw the movie last night! Ghostbusters: Afterlife is almost exactly what I hoped it would be! McKenna Grace is excellent as Phoebe Spengler. I see some are criticising the density of fan service in the film, but actually none of it is cynical... They didn't feel the need to show us Slimer, for example, and the overall effect is one of love for the 1984 original. This wasn't so much a passing-the-torch as it was a generational reflection on Ghostbusters. Also the way the movie handled Harold Ramis' absence was really quite beautiful! Oh - And I shared a knowing nod with my wife when the Aztec Death Whistle turned up :D
I feel the same. The movie is also a demonstration that you can re make a movie and put woman/girls black girl as the main protagonist, making male characters some dumb and relegated to second place. And not offend anyone with it. I think we all enjoyed seen Phoebe being the smart sister explaining to his no so smart brother. Whiteout saying"you are a man you are stupid"

I love seeing Adam treat Allie as a peer. I know they've worked together and know each other very well, but the level of respect he must have for her is truly a delight to see
I love seeing nerds geek out, just the body language of " I'm building... wait, it's built? Keep building." is always a beautiful state of flux to see...
I appreciate how he let her use the cool, expensive and kind of dangerous toy. He trust her and allow her to really learn. It's kinda cool to see he doesn't judge her by her age.
Adam seems like such a great teacher both with his excitement and how readily he hands things off to those he's working with. That's always a challenge with teaching something like this, being able to let someone take over on something that matters. And Allie is obviously talented as well to be able to keep up with all that. I hope she gets a chance to use what she learned there.
Every time I watch Adam do any weathering, I think of him as Mr Miyagi repeating "Wax On, Wax Off" as he applies and removes paint. then this episode comes along and he even has a student to teach this method. Its amazeing to see and I love watching this whole process.
Just seen Afterlife this evening. It’s the perfect 3rd Movie! When do we get Part 2 of this build, I wanna know how Adam put that deathly scream into such a small object!
Adam getting to make props for the new Ghostbusters is awesome, but what is making me tear up is that he chose to share that experience with Allie as a next generation maker. L:ove this so much!!
Adam is my biggest inspiration for all the props I’ve made up to this point in my life. Hope he keeps doing what he loves and continues to inspire other people such as myself. Btw, this is so cool to see him making props for films such as this! Keep up the great work!
When you thought you couldn't love and respect Adam Savage anymore, this video. It would literally make my lifetime to meet him just to shake his hand. You are a wonderful person, creator and magician. Because to perform magic with your creativity. Absolutely amazing.
The amount of wholesome sweetness in this video, from Adam teaching Ali what to do step by step and explaining how much he loves prop making, to the very end meeting Jason and Mckenna on the set. I think I may need some insulin.
Just back from seeing Ghostbusters: Afterlife and these 'death whistles' stole two scenes, very funny! Great suggestion Adam and watching this now with you both just makes the whole experience that much better. Thank you!
Well this was a pleasant surprise. I JUST got back from the movie and this prop scene was HYSTERICAL. Good job. Also the fact I was telling people I haven't seen a movie with such amazing visual effects and spectacular sound effects that just mold the movie experience since Blade Runner 2049 and YOU referenced that movie in this video LOL. I really feel like Jason Reitman took the 1st movie and mixed it with the Goonies - and THIS prop totally helped push that vibe!
Wonderful watching your teaching methods. You do what so many do not and let your student work at their own speed. And the work you showed her how to do was amazing.
This is so heartwarming, seeing one of my heroes pass his knowledge and techniques to the next generation, outstanding Adam, thank you for sharing this
Adam is great at teaching, and Allie is amazing at being a teachable stand-in for us, the audience. (I've seen her work up close, and Adam is teaching her a lot less that this video makes it appear).
I can't decide which is better: Allie's excitement to learn and help build a prop for a big blockbuster movie or McKenna's huge, genuine kid-in-a-candy-store grin at seeing and holding such an awesome, hand-made prop. I'm so jealous of both those kids!
I've been watching your ODBs and Tested videos for a couple of years now. THIS one is best-in-class. Teach young people an important skill like this is SO rewarding both for the student AND the teacher. Wow. This bumped my optimism up by several points just watching this 30 minute piece. Thank you Adam, and thank you Allie!
I was going say teens across the world must be so jealous of getting hands on training from Adam for a prop on an actual film.... but I'm 46 and I am so jealous... Kept at it Allie........
Like everyone else here, I am blown away by what an incredible teacher Adam is, just fantastic. And I think we'll be seeing more of his apprentice in the future, and I look forward to it!!
Last year i 3D printed a proton pack, once assembled I used a two-part resin to coat and strengthen the print, mixed the resin in a red solo cup, I've never worked with resin before, mixed a little too much resin, and felt the cup getting warmer. Finally, I see it smoking. Learned real quick that resin is an exothermic reaction.
Amazing Adam! This was a great prop in the movie - you are always a great presenter, explainer and your enthusiasm is soooo infectious! My dream one day - visit the cave and help with a build :)
Awesome. Wish we could have seen the sculpting process too. And the reaction from Jason and McKenna is just fabulous. Cannot wait to see the movie this coming Saturday.
I didn't think I'd enjoy this one, but it was so interesting watching the whole process as you built the look up. How you let Allie get hands on properly with such an important set I Truely loved. She did it at a gentler slower pace! But you let her just do it, and make her mark and allow her to see what she was creating on her own. Fantastic video, one of my favourites with you Adam, nicely done 🤗
I love movie magic. The finished product was so far removed from the white plastic that it’s hard to imagine they were ever white plastic. Great job Allie!
That was a great video. Watching you show Allie how to do things and explain why the things do what they do was really cool. I love that you love to help/share knowledge with young makers and all makers. I'm so excited about the new Ghost Busters!
Allie Webber seems to be on the top of the world by the time her work is finished with this set of props. She'll probably be out at the ort cloud when she sees the thank you from the director and cast member(?).
These are the experiences that so many children miss out on now that we don't do much of this kind of craftsman mentoring. I wouldn't give up my experiences for anything, I learned more about life, problem solving and how to be an adult from them than anything I ever learned in school.
I have an Aztec Death Whistle, a carved stone one... My nieghbours bought their kid a trumpet, and he played at night, so I accompanied him on Death Whistle... We got some good discordant trumpeting and horrifying screaming going every night... For some reason, after a week he stopped playing at night. And yes, this is a true story.
@@peterkelley6344 I wouldn't call it a whistle, it sounds like someone screaming, horribly. You can change your breaths, hand positions and add some really chilling creepy depth to the screams. The shape of the inside mimics a human throat. The old story was the Aztecs used them going into battle, knowing what one sounds like, if you had a group the noise would be gut-wrenching, hair-raising, brown pants, terrifying.
I'd love to see Adam teaching other people more often. He's a very good teacher: attentive, patient, he gives advice but also lets his student do the work and potentially make mistakes. Thats how you learn.
This is why I love Adam Savage, yes he is an amazing craftsman and incredible prop maker, but he takes the time to not just show others his process, but teach them his process, leaving nothing as a secret for himself.
Great tutorial on how to weather a prop but more importantly, excellent tutorial on how to be a mentor and leader - calm, supportive, never talking down to Allie and explaining why you do each step. That is how you encourage and train someone - well done Adam. I am hoping Allie got one of those in end, they looked great in the movie.
Adam is a maker of a different sort but it's something all humans can create. He made something Allie Weber can keep forever. Not a prop or a video but awesome memories. Adam is a memory maker :) Go make everyone!
HIGHLY EDUCATIONAL, deeply rewarding, I have been holding off watching these videos out of fear of spoilers... coming to your channel after Afterlife has given me an even deeper level of appreciation to a film I already intend to obsess over. THANK YOU, ADAM for your commitment to movie magic and sharing that love with the world!
Absolutely amazing!! Just saw the movie last night- LIKELY gonna see it again tonight and I have nothing negative to day about this movie other than while this movie will introduce a new generation to that which is Ghostbusters, it was also something for the legacy fans as well and to see YOU and your contributions to the film being this Death whistle which I've been recently getting hooked on- just absolutely amazing!!
This is awesome I love that he actually got to make a prop for the movie and he got to include other people in that. I’m excited to look for that prop in the movie
