I just heard you on RU-vid for the first time. I was so impressed. I have played the piano most of my life, but never very well. Nine years ago when I was 75 years old I found a teacher who help me learn to '"play by ear". He taught me chords, First a simple walking base and how to fill in the right hand with the chords. I opened up a new world to me. I can play soooo much better with less working on every pieces. I would LOVE to know how you do all the fun happy things you do. I am so happy to just be able to play at care centers for people who know the kind of music I play from 1950s & 60s. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I met Rudi and Janet in 1949 while at Dartmouth College. His daughter Hillary was then taking trombone lessons from Jim Robinson, of Ice Cream record fame. Rudi was producer of radio series This is Jazz, every Saturday morning on WQXR in Manhattan. A Dartmouth friend got us into the studio and we heard a band featuring pianist Charles Luckeyeth "Luckey" Roberts. that night a classmate and I went on the A Train to Harlem and his club Rendezvous at 149th and St Nick's. what an evening! he told me that he had given George Gershwin more than 400 piano lessons!
What a wonderful concert - so many favourites. Adam, your performance at the recent Glenn Miller Festival was just stunning - your audience was so lucky! Wish I could be in Albuquerque next weekend, but it’s a bit far from Australia!
