King 🤴, I wish it would get down tp 91F here in Louisiana. I have nothing but back pain. On top of that, I can't sleep. Im about to throw away the meds and start drinking 🍸. Talk to you later.
Morning from Gagetown, great job on the steering box, Gomez is getting there one piece at a time. Thanks for the interesting videos. Hope everyone has a great day.
Joey, thanks for putting Sir Rodney's e-mail up on the video. Now the bride w/b able to get a hold of him and put in the order for a clothing item. We really enjoy your videos. Hope the staff can find a job in Whoville where the employer appreciates reliable help.
yes and i encourage others to get on their projects too. the new world we now live in is about the same as the dirty 30s for our grand parents. they made things work with what little money they had and used old school ways to fix things too thansk
Good morning from Cape Cod ⛵ it looks to me like your newly fabricated stearing pin should work out excellent. A little bit of know how, a little bit of skill and a whole lot of lubrication, and it seems you can do anything Joey 👍 it seems whatever problem comes about you have a solution. You certainly have an incredible amount of knowledge 👍 thanks guys for another wonderful video ✌️🇺🇲🇨🇦
thank you, you have to think outside the box when you have no money or access to a good machine shop. but i have lots of time and get things made. thansk
Very helpful explaining the brake booster. I have a cat d6b the booster looks the same as the 9u we are located in (upstate New York finger lakes region) thanks Joey ⚡
91 degrees F, thats crazy hot for you guys! We are slowly cooling down a bit to around 100 F till October. Stay cool if you can and crank the AC. Hey from Tucson!
Just ground the rod for 10 or so and watch the moisture go! But with liquid air rods Flux could fall off..just usual for them no matter what you do. Great work!
yes it is a very over designed steering box which is actually a fancy gear industrial gear box. yes better check all oils because they seem to evaporate for some reason or just leak out. thansk
Very impressive rebuild, re-engine ear ( Smokey ). Yes total submersion works best on those worm and wheel, from my experience, certainly makes them last a lot longer. Who cares if they leak a little.
Hello, years ago with those old weeping gearbox's I used to mix gear oil with gun grease and it worked well, now years later I found out they make a product called pie filling ,which has the same consistency of my fifty year old recipe ,stops a lot of drips and maintains lubrication . Should have tried it on the X Keep moving forward
yes a thicker lube would work but we live in a very cold climate and need to be able to operate the controls. i put 75-90 instead of the 80/90 because 75/90 actually flows when cold,,,,,, very very slowly, lol thansk
Another great video. Methinks the original worm follower in the steering box would have been just small enough a diameter to never contact both the front and back walls of the worm at the same time. But not too small that there would be excessive slop in the steering wheel action. Because the pin was in a bearing it would rotate not only to stop wearing a flat spot on the pin but the bearing would enable a rolling action of the pin so that the pin would roll rather than slide on the lip of the worm to stop unnecessarily wearing the worm. Wearing on either the pin or the worm faces would increase the slop in the steering wheel action. - Edit 2hrs later: And just got to finish watching the video. Love your work Joey (and Xena) and well explained. Does this make it the 2nd or 3rd hot day over 30 degrees C for you this summer with 3 or is it 2 more expected? Thanks again
yes the steering box is well over designed because it is an industrial box used in a factory that would go back and forth 24 hours a day 365days of the year and not wear out. but the box was never design for a big shock impact that a grader would get when the front wheels bounced off a curb or a rock. yes we are officially at the 3rd hot day of the 5 hot days of summer here. thansk
Neat work on fabbing the pivot. Noticed cover plate has a lash adjustment in the center. Is that s'posed to adjust lash on the arm? Xena, a few bottles of water will help you out 😎
thank you, yes to keep the shaft from climbing up, there is about 1/4" up ward move movement. over designed gear box being used as a very slow steering box. thansk
yes the website was big back in the day and then website became obsolete as people see the world through their hand held devices. the website hosts will not help me with a new program to access the site after my computer of 10 years turned itself off on the day it was turn on. thansk
