While a relatively new concept, the world has been living with the climate change process for quite some time.
Over the span of years and decades, Pacific Islanders have grown more resilient, adapting to the slow, yet significant changes around them.
With climate change posing a serious threat to the future of this island nation, the relocation of its people may be inevitable.
A proactive approach is being taken to address environmental and health problems associated with over-crowding in urban centres across all sectors of society.
Kiribati’s population is likely to double in size by 2025.
This, combined with climatic issues like sea-level rise, loss of land and compromised food security, will cause many people to move and perhaps exacerbate the problem of urbanization and overcrowding in South Tarawa.
This would put families living in South Tarawa at even greater health risk.
