You are so brave to confront your drinking . 7 years must have been exhausting- emotionally, spiritually, physically, financially. . . Just so draining .take it a day , an hour , a moment at a time . Methadone saved my life! I just celebrated 14 years in recovery and h w successfully tapered off methadone. Now I work at my former program helping other women do the same.

I started doing drugs since my teenage, got addicted to Crack. Spent my whole life fighting Crack addiction..Crack addiction actually destroyed my life. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my fiancee recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Australia. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them.

YES very sure of Dr.benfungi. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.

I'm really happy for you that your fiancee decided to help you...I hear about alot of family members or so called friends shutting an addict out of their life, which since most addicts do it to mask emotions to me is the worse thing someone can do to an addict.

I have been a meth addict on and off for the last 10 years. I almost had 5 years clean and I relapsed a few times. I have about 3 months clean. This video was great!

It took me 20 years to get clean and sober. Live in treatment programs, the 12 step program, ADHD medication and counselling helped me achieve it. 22 years sober and 18 years clean this year!

I stopped everything in 1978 BUT in the 90's I started to party again. yeah; it got worse and I was scared cuz I couldn't stop!! I just kept going to the program and finally the obsession was lifted from me. I was reborn!! I now know what thoroughness really means. God Bless you!!

Wow! That makes me think maybe I won’t feel like I ruined my whole life, forever. I got off opiates in 2016 & went back to treatment for substitution issues in 2018. Now I’m in my 40s and back in school because I can’t work in my old career, due to my record. My counselor inspired me to go. She beat meth, went back to school,and graduated at 46. She’d had a 20 year career. I don’t care how old you are…a 20 year career is an achievement. And so is your achievement. Congratulations!

This is the most accurate, honest most informative documentary on addiction that I’ve ever seen. They touched on all forms of addiction and how the brain works. Love it. Thank you for educating our loved ones. It’s not our intention to hurt anyone.

I'm a paraplegic with chronic pain. Opioids like Oxycontin effectively treated my chronic pain with few significant side effects. But because of the opioid crisis it is extremely difficult to obtain the medications that made my life bearable. I realize that many are addicted and dying but there are many thousands of us who benefit from these medications.

That's a very good question. Anyone taking daily opioids for chronic pain will develop withdrawal symptoms of varying severity. These include dysphoria, nausea, diarrhea, body aches, insomnia, and depression. If you want to quit taking opioids a specialist can develop a tapering protocol of weeks to months that will involve little or no discomfort. I've stopped "cold turkey" from street heroin many times and once from hospital morphine. Although unpleasant, I was always surprised how mild the symptoms were- nothing like what the movies had led me to believe. What was most helpful was realizing that after the third day passed the worst was over and after eight days it was pretty much over. Nothing like benzo (Xanax) withdrawal, which was hellish and took over eight weeks. Yes, if you've been taking benzodiazepines for more that three weeks and you need or want to stop INSIST on talking to a specialist and develop a taper of at least two months. I've been through some harrowing experiences and benzo withdrawal is among the most horrible things I've ever been through. Opioid cold turkey is a walk in the park in comparison.

@@HeatherBoo916 - I realize that there is an opioid crisis and strict regulation is necessary but most of the ODs are due to Fentanyl. Many of us chronic pain patients respond well to opioids with minimal side effects. I shouldn't say this but besides the analgesia I get positive psychological effects. I hope you can find a doctor. Try a pain clinic.

Hi , can i ask how long you have bein on oxy for ? I’m from the uk and it’s not a drug that iv ever heard that has ever bein freely avaliable here at any point in time. I do belive the sackler family did try and push their meds here up in Europe but i belive they weren’t very successful. Esp here in the uk morphine / physeptone is used as the main painkiller. Lots of people i no who are not addicts have bein prescribed physeptone ( methadone) and their ignorance had them saying I’m not going to be a junkie 🥴so chose oramorph which is actually much more potent and addictive than physeptone 🤷‍♂️what can you say ay!! Anyways goodnight /morning .it’s 04:10 here so way to late really .

Addiction is also denying those that NEED pain medication. It took a year for liver cancer to kill my beautiful sister Lisa and she had to fight MONTHLY to get the medication she needed to ease her suffering. The last few weeks in hospice she was FINALLY given what she needed to pass relatively pain free. I miss her every day💔

I sympathize but addiction is not denying those that need pain medication. In the US, binary thinking (polarizing, divisive, either or beliefs) and as a consequence legislation is. Politics has divided every issue to the point where any nuance or degree of complexity is ignored. This documentary clearly demonstrated that both conditions (addiction and cancer) can be effectively treated.

I was badly addicted to OC's more than 10 years ago (2003-2010). Took me 7 trips to detox and many, many attempts to stop until I finally got control. Fortunately, I never touched heroin or anything else...but it was just as bad. $400 a day. When you're addicted to opiates, you're not alive, you just exist. Your true self...who you really are is gone forever. Even though I've fully recovered and living a "normal" life, I've never been the same. Who I was died when I went through that addiction.

It took me nine months to finaly get over the withdrawls of cold turkey going off methadone. No money no car no lisence,2 hours away from the clinic family fed up with the battle as well as me. Eight years latter sober i am finaly a person i can be proud of but i got here only with god. He was telling me, you did things your way for 45 years now it is time to do things my way.....

Thank you for the spotlight you at NOVA have put on this problem. My daughter is now in an inpatient facility as I type this. But, it took the death from Fentanyl of my 16-17 year old granddaughter to push her into treatment. I used the "16-17" age description because my granddaughter was given one (1) fentanyl pill as a "present" on the day before her 17th birthday. She was a "naive" , meaning she had no experience with narcotic drugs before this, drug user. On the night before her 17th birthday she took that pill and sat down to watch TV. She went to bed and she was found dead the morning of her 17th birthday. I am now depressed, even suicidal, and filled with rage. The cost of these drugs is much more than mere money.

My brother and I overdosed on fentenyl laced heroin and he died but I survived. Thank God for three years in recovery. Methadone has helped me begin to deal with the root cause of my life long addiction. I hope he's proud of me. RIP CHRIS 8/4/1972-9/9/2018

As a 62 yr old addict i can say Suboxone did help. Clean for almost 3 yrs but really dont know myself. Not sure if im alone feeling like this. Been using some sort of drug since i was 14. Glad im alive to talk about it but still its wierd. Love to all other survivors.❤

I'm a recovering heroin addict as well. Suboxone has pros and cons like everything else in this world. It's definitely better than daily routine trips through concrete jungles just to get a quick fix. You are NOT alone! I'm struggling with a few questions in life and who am I is at the top of the list.

I finally got clean from opioids 12 years ago w Suboxone. I tapered off and now I'm a counselor at the same treatment center that saved my life. As a corrections officer in mental health hospitals 90% of doctors nurses don't care when I hear them talk down too someone who is looking for help I have almost been fired for speaking out and I have got 12 people in 4 years who come visit me and thank me for getting them help on my own time and with just a handful of doctors who care like myself. I was wounded over seas 4 times and I know what people have been through and my #1 priorities is to try and talk to patients in getting help I lost someone I loved so much because of va hospitals giving me so much drugs and I think of her for past 10 years wishing I never lost that love but after marines I've been clean since 2010 but lost 💔 of my life. But my children are my everything and my oldest is going through addiction and feel my fault every day he's clean so far. I pray for all of you. Get help don't be afraid.

Omg i just seen that scene and i had to literally get off my bed and try to breath because i jus can't imagine the trauma that poor baby will deal with. She looked older than two years old and most kids retain memories started around that age. Ik i remember being two because my brother was born and i remember playing with him and all kinds of stuff from then.

I’ve been 5 years on suboxone, got tapered off in hospital over a month period and am back brand new! Haven’t used once, got my psychological state back up and am enjoying my life! 😊

@@AllieBFromTN it was tough and I’m glad I did it in hospital under care of medical staff. It took me around month to get to minimum dosage and a another month get off it completely and stay in hospital to monitor my withdrawals because no matter what u will still get them. It was psychologically tough more than anything. As an addict you always want smth, but time does its job and it becomes easier. I know it sounds cliche but it is how it is. 8 months later when I was completely off suboxone I had to do a urine drug test and it actually still showed presence of buprenorphine in the system. Which is normal. It stays in ur body for at least a year after you completely stop taking it. I wish your friend best of luck and I hope she perseveres and comes off it.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

Great documentary. I lost a close cousin to fentanyl in 2017. Reading some of the comments of people who recovered or in recovery really warmed my heart. I don't know any of you but you should be proud of overcoming the addiction.

But the "overscoming" is most of the time temporary. Philip Seymour Hoffman was clean for over 20 years, then he went back to heroin and he was found dead from an OD. It a monkey on your back, King Kong on your back. It's not going to let you go. It messes up your brain; look what happened to Robin Williams. His brain was turned to mush. Drugs are junk.

So sorry about your loss! I lost a close cousin to fentanyl, too, in 2012. I used to babysit him him 3 times a week…he was like a brother and he left a sister, close in age. They were inseparable, in life. That’s what got me off pills…I didn’t even know they were making fake, stamped oxys that were actually fentanyl. My pain doctor moved and I was left without a taper, or any help with pain in withdrawal. I finally found out about Subutex detox and Suboxone in 2015 and have been in recovery, since! Everyone deserves to live to experience recovery!

This is the best informational video I've watched on the subject of addiction. The most important and powerful message I took from it is how these doctors don't belittle or look down on people with addiction, they care. I've never experienced real care from any doctor or counselor on the subject of my addiction, and believe me, I've spoken to a large number of them over the years. I think it's really sad that people who could actually help just dismiss those of us who are in the vicious cycle of trying to conquer our addictions alone over and over.

Yeah, alcohol at high doses is just as dangerous as hard drugs. I have a family member right now who is extremely addicted to alcohol. He only started drinking maybe 3 or 4 years ago in his 30s, he has a unique story actually, but I can't tell it all here. He's drinking 3 750ml bottles of fireball a day, and he's so unpredictable. He got violent and threatening with an older family member. Has been arrested twice for drunken violent situations, pretty mild but he's unpredictable like I said. He wakes up at .15 or more usually, and goes all the way up to .4 blood alcohol. He punches himself in the face at time when he's over .30 blood alcohol. He has tapered alone successfully, but he usually goes back pretty fast. His withdrawal is torture, and he's sick and miserable all the time from the abuse. He doesn't want to go to rehab at this point. I'm afraid he might die if he continues this, and so is the rest of this family. I go over his house and look after him as much as I can. I mean he has even laughed a little when I mentioned how bad it was, and said he likely won't die. Regardless, do you have any idea how to get him help? Or any suggestions? I mean it's absolutely ridiculous what he's doing to himself. He worked out all the time, was very healthy and very normal most of his life, until his divorce, and then meeting the wrong crowd of people and certain relationships and girl who affected his mental health very badly because she was nuts, abusive, and violent towards him. A downward spiral like you never saw with anyone. Good luck to you too, and I hope you're happy and okay too, sorry for the long post, but i'm very stressed about this. The only thing I didn't mention really is that he's very very rich to the point he won't ever have to work again, since he made so much in his 20s. Money doesn't mean a lot in his current situation, but I feel like I should mention his story a bit.

To everyone here that has battled drug addiction, recovering and still taking one day at a time with their struggles to get better... you can do it and glad to know you are still here with us, that is what matters. I have never tried any drugs for the reason that even an a younger age I was told by my parents to never go into it or one might not know they are hooked and can never go back. Thank God i was surrounded with positive influence with my parents, family members and friends were never into it so it was quite easy to stay away from it. So to all of you who are on your way to recovery, keep going and you can do it. 🙏🏼💪🏻💕

As a former heroin addict who made it out the other side after years of homelessness, methadone, suboxone, and rehabs, you have to want it. You have to want to be free. A lot of people just don't have that desire for more. The pull is too strong.

It’s useful because it’s free and widely available, but just being told God is the solution to everything doesn’t work for a lot of people. And addiction is often just the end result of someone’s complex emotional/psychological problems, which is kind of a tricky thing to treat

Prospects for recovery via 12 step programs are < 30%. True for alcohol & opiods. Sadly, detox & medical care haven't improved recovery rates much. Suboxone, methadone & buprenorphine all work well treating opiod addiction.

@@Henry-fk7cq calculating odds is very difficult, because it doesn’t really account for motivation and discipline. If someone is very motivated to get sober, gets help, follows advice and sticks to a plan that includes making major behavioral changes, the odds of success are very good. If a person doesnt make any changes and gives very little effort, the odds are about 0%. So the statistics can be misleading

Today I have 2 years clean off fentanyl, heroin and meth after using for over 25 years. Addiction robbed me from all joys but now my life is full again. I am close to getting my license back, am working and going to school to be a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. It's a long and tough fight but totally worth it.

I’ve worked with abused kids for decades. What happens to these drug exposed children is awful. It has long term consequences….behavior, education, and so forth. I do disagree with the one man who was saying the answer isn’t removal. Children don’t deserve to live around drugs. What Nova needs to do is a story on how parental drug use impacts children. There is so much abuse that comes with drug addiction. I’ve worked with children whose parents pimped them out for a dime bag, children whose parent bashed their brains in (and now need 24/7 care), children starving to the point of almost death….and so on. Trauma is the gateway drug.

The unfortunate thing is that people in severe chronic pain no longer have access to opioid meds. Why is it that even in patients who never abuse their meds are left to suffer from under medication ? The fear of opioid drugs means that we have gone from over prescribing to under prescribing them. Nowadays, all anyone will be prescribed is 2 Vicodin per day. Thats it, whether you have cancer or chronic pain. This is less than 1/10 of what I was prescribed 10 yrs. ago. I had decent pain relief on the larger opiatedoses I used to get, which was about 200mg.daily morphine with 2 Vicodin four times daily for breakthru pain. Now that I only get a total of only 2 Vicodin daily and no morphine, how do you think I'm doing? I am in agony. Grossly under medicated, even though I never abused opiates . This is terrible for anyone in severe pain, now . Why should I be denied access to adequate pain relief because of the 'opiate epidemic's.? This is bad medicine...

Yesterday just celebrated my 2 year of sobriety off fyentenol and depression meds..was on pain meds and depression meds for 12 years..went into rehab 2 years ago did 90 day live in..graduated program and never look back..with God by my side and my family,I did it!!!!..for any one in the life you can do it..but have to do it for u no one else..and best advice I can give..stay strong,put God first and close off every one and anything that took u down that dark tunnel...your light is waiting for u...

People want to talk crap about addicts saying it’s a choice and just stop because they have not one clue what it’s like I mean if it was that easy no one would ever loose everything they have for drugs but that’s what happens. So many opioid users were normal people with careers and families then get injured and become addicted. What needs to happen is free rehab and financial assistance to get back on their feet and if u think about it if we help people overcome addiction they don’t die, they get jobs and pay taxes so they will pay back and the more people that survive addiction the more people there are to help addicts. If 100,000 people are saved from addiction each year that’s 100,000 people to help others it’s literally in everyone’s best interest to help addicts plus the less addicts the less crime.

Great documentary! I'm a recovering alcoholic and lots of people don't know how dangerous alcohol withdrawal is. In my view it's a horrible drug, even more so than others because it is readily available and dirt cheap, at least in my country. You can get half a litre of distilled sugar cane water, which is 50% alcoholic, more than vodka, for 20 cents. My last withdrawal, three years ago, i had such bad seizures I bit a piece of my tongue off. Pray for addicts, it isn't a choice after a while. I drank just to keep my body from shutting down. And in recovery come the questions like why I used the way i did. Very tough, it's like having a little devil in my mind always telling me it'd be a great idea to drink again. Everyday is a struggle.

I just can’t express the level of fear that hits you when you realize that you are out of OxyContin and you have to get up at 430 in the morning to drop your three daughters off at your in laws so you can drive an hour to work to run a medical clinic for 9 hours and then drive home and pick those daughters up, feed them and do their homework and bathe them and put them to bed while going through the worst withdrawals you can imagine. And do that while frantically trying to get more OxyContin before your bones explode. It was by far the most terrifying thing I have ever been through. I was failing at everything but being an addict and I was looking at losing my children if anyone clued into how far I had fallen. The only reason why people didn’t clue in right away is because it happened so FAST. I am so extremely grateful that I have been sober for almost a decade now. But to be clear, I used drugs for roughly 3-4 years and I am still suffering with the consequences.

I had a hip replacement surgery. It was so painful. The surgery center is a huge clinic. When you wake up, your loved one drives you home and of course, I was out of it due to the anesthesia and pain meds they give you in recovery. I had just read an article about Oxytocin. My nurse before the surgery didn’t even discuss pain medication with me, I realized afterwards I should have brought it up. Anyway we get home and I go straight to bed. Later my husband says here’s your pain medicine and it was OxyContin and of course I was upset but it was too late to change it. I was extremely careful taking it. I stopped but had some left. I just want to warn everyone to not take that medication. I had severe anxiety and depression. The wealthy Sackler family/ drug company created this medication. There was a huge class action lawsuit and they had to pay millions. But that evil drug is still being prescribed, I just want to warn everyone to never take it!! If I have anymore surgeries, I will tell them I’m allergic to it!!

I know...I've been addicted to methadone for 30 years,my parents used methadone growing up and I feel into my addiction at 12 years old after something happened...I never even smoked a joint before I used methadone...I tried to work and live a "normal" a few years back..I'd work in a hotel 3 day gear sick in a town that on the otherside of the country from the clinic and prescription I had...I tried to choose but I realised I couldn't because is a neurological deficiency..I'm not sure I'm not permanently damaged but I know I have to have methadone to be able to live,,I'll kill myself before being where I've been before,it's OK few a few years but I've lived a life time of it...

Just finished a year-long internship in an outpatient treatment clinic (most patients came from inpatient) in VA. Several things I’ve learned: addiction does not discriminate- i had kids of wealthy parents next to kids or poor parents of all races as clients; it takes about 2 years for the brain to “get back to normal” so staying away from drugs for at least 2 years is a daily job; MAT treatments (like Suboxone) for opioid users decrease death of overdose by 50% (significant number); 12-step programs are key for addicts in recovery (that means for the rest of their lives). My heart goes out to all the parents featured in this film. It’s not your fault. ❤️

Where did you go to school? 12 step programs are a joke for people who don't believe in a higher power so, again, where did you go to school? AA is a cult of nut jobs for regular people that are just trying to stay clean. They might as well be Jehova's Witnesses.

As for your assertion regarding 12-step programs you are incorrect, as is demonstrated by both research and multiple “success stories” of people who have been sober for a very long time. Lastly, perhaps it’s time for you to think about what higher power might mean to different people? It’s does not have to be religious. Namaste 😉

Dysfunctional family, unloving and cold parent, emotionally and physically neglected childhood, destructive narcissistic parents, childhood emotional neglect, all of these causes a deep emotional hunger. We try to fill these void with something else. That's where addiction come in.

Yes! I have noticed a strong correlation between cold, abusive, and/or unloving parents and opioid addiction. I grew up never knowing that feeling of warmth and safety that most kids have. Opioids alleviated that feeling of emptiness.

Medical Assisted Treatment saved my life!! I'll be 3 years sober from herion on May 6th and my life within these past 3 years has changed so much for the better! Addiction can happen to anyone!! I came from a good upper middle class family, straight A's in school, lots of friends, involved in all kinds of school and family activities. I didn't even ever see herion until I was 30 years old. I couldn't afford the opiate pills on the streets anymore, so sadly turning to herion was the cheaper solution! This lead to a 12 year rabbit hole of Addiction!! Thank God for medicines like methadone that give us our lives back!! My family thought that I was just switching one drug for another, but now they've learned and seen what medical assisted treatment can do. The main thing to all of this is that it's up to the person if they want help and want to change. If they aren't serious about ending their cycle of Addiction it'll never change for them! I'm so thankful that I got help. It saved my life.

My one year recovery is tomorrow, And it's by the grace of God that I'm here.I was addicted to pills at first,then heroin and then crack.I broke free and began taking Suboxone they changed my addictive behavior and I began to notice that I make better decisions while in the subs.Ive learned my triggers and I have changed my ppl,places and things.Yes I do get bored sometimes but I think back to when I was using how miserable I was.Waking up at 6 am dopesick with no money and no one to call.Then walking around for 3 days at a time chasing dope and crack.Its like I was possessed.So thankful for my change.

I have a friend I've known since I was 9 years old, I'm 27 M now. He's in recovery at the moment and on methadone. This Documentary really helped me understand what his battling and how I can possibly support him properly by just being a friend. Like the dr. In the documentary hinted at; be part of "the 'social stability' and social support people need. They need friends, loved ones around not cut off in isolation and things to look forward to." Im glad I haven't lost contact with him and that he hasnt completely isolated.

We need to educate our kids, teach them how to manage pain and trauma without looking outside the body for answers. Our bodies produces the strongest opiates naturally, endorphins! We also have speed in our bodies! Adrenaline! If we learn to use them we never have to use drugs to “get high”.

Great episode NOVA!!! Thank you for putting this out there & giving everyone the chance to see how hard the struggle truly is!!! The only way to get this information out to the public is to have more shows exactly like this, that humanize the addict & their addiction. The only difference between an addict & a non- addict is brain chemistry and social surroundings. LETS All start HELPING and UNDERSTANDING a bit more... While placing judgment & shame on the addict a BIT LESS!!! The problem doesn't simply go away because society wants to "look the other way". I tend to agree with your assertion that people who become addicted have a certain brain chemistry and poor social surroundings. There is one other constant which I have noticed and it is to do with their looks. Almost all of them have unattractive faces and bodies. Especially the females. There are the odd Male addict who if he washed and shaved could pass as reasonably handsome. But not so with the females , almost everyone of them has a physical blemish. This reflects western societies predilection for attractive female roles when men seek a partner. Women conversely select financially successful men to marry.

socio economics etc will cause pain, even if it is mental. Which causes many to just get drunk, use pills, etc because the treatments they offer are basically oh you have pain, no 10$ script of mid dose. Addict, needs MAT, no insurance, so goes on fent dies. cravings are the root of it. once the craving gets hold, the rational part of the brain has no chance. 9 years sober today and this NOVA broadcast pops up in my feed!! Talk about signs and omens, huh? it's still a daily struggle and a daily recovery. I am giving all my good vibes to all struggling with addiction and in recovery. may you stay strong and sober, my brothers and sisters. also focusing on illegal stuff takes away from the addiction to legal stuff, alcohol. and that's as deadly as the others discussed here. and what works for alcohol is being used for everything, and that's the root of the recovery industry's failure at helping people with addiction to other substances.

Her saying that the pain felt like her bones were being ripped from her body is exactly, exactly the same way I had tried to explain it to people in my life when I was getting sober. Suboxone has saved my life and allowed me to be sober going on five years and, unlike methadone, for me, it has allowed me to maintain an active lifestyle.

Methadone eventually turns against you and your body I would say within 6-8 months. I started throwing up all the time from anxiety in the morning on the days I had to go fill cause I was getting 2 weeks take home. Anyway I increased and it got worse. I’m switching to the boxes next week and I can’t fkn wait because I’ve done this many times can’t I know you only need boxes for a few months cause I’m definitely not getting addicted to those either I’m so done with all of it but the boxes are definitely the best option to get off this pink stuff sooner. Thank gosh I found Vitadone to help with the ridiculous sweating and low level energy bs. It’s honestly crazy I’m alive. I fell rock climbing and broke my pelvis and ribs and all kinds of issues and it’s been a long time since my head was clear. You know where Methadone came from? The Germans WWII It kills me that these parents give their kids adderall and Ritalin at such a young age. It completely warps your mind..stay strong-we all need help till we leave this pain

Exactly. The way i have always described it is it feels like my bones are eating through my muscles, tendons, and nerves. It’s especially vicious in my cervical spine area. As if each nerve is being sliced with an acid tipped scalpel.

Now that the suburban residents have embraced the drugs the courts have recognized it as an impairing disease, not a recreational habit. What part of history did you study and completely miss all of the racism associated with drugs? The Tuskegee Experiment? Billie Holiday getting busted? Charlie Parker getting busted? Stan Getz and Red Rodney getting gentle slaps on the wrist?

@@katherinea.williams3044 I remember a huge Meth addiction happening in the 60's and a gigantic Heroin epidemic happening about 1970. There were other drugs circulating, too. Lots of prescription Amphetamines and Barbiturates were passed around, and many got addicted. I was growing up and learning about this in school, magazines, and T.V. documentaries.

I wonder how it is that someone have no problem quitting but others struggle for their life.😢 I was on OxyContin in large doses for a long time, still I had no problem quitting. It took me 2 months and I was off, never looking back. And then there are those who get 1 prescription and their life is ruined. It’s so incredibly sad. And this is not a “I am better then” speech. I just can’t wrap my head around how I could be so lucky while others are in so deep they loose everything, when we have the same start. Opioids given by a doctor. My heart gode out to all the souls struggling, who have lost everything and who in the end have lost their life to this poison. And all my love to their families.❤

When they mentioned that not enough dopamine means no motivation, I immediately thought, “Well, that’s pretty much the definition of major depression, isn’t it?”. Ask anyone who has suffered repeated rounds of or chronic major depression what that is like, and you’ll have your answer as to why people use drugs. If you aren’t depressed before you try that first addictive drug, you’ll get that way unless you are using. 😞 (I’m not using, BTW, but it has been quite the fight not to self-destruct.)

you need to also consider serotonin levels which if low can cause major depressive disorder. I'm thinking lots of drugs release high levels of dopamine at once which cause the high and euphoria. I've been on SSRIs for over 20 years but just recently managed to stop taking them, they are as hard or harder to come off as some drugs.`

These stories are so heartbreaking! The ladies and gentlemen in the show were very brave to share their stories. It was really nice to hear they are doing so much better, were able to gain their lives back and have plans for the future. It's so sad to see this happening in our country. I really hope our medical system can change to offer better help and more resources to every person struggling with drug addiction.

Seeing the child in the supermarket pulling her overdosed mother really broke my heart. My doctor prescribed me fentanyl after a heavy knee surgery where oxycodon didn't work. At first refused to take it, but the pain got so bad i had no choice. I knew about fentanyl, but accepted the risk to cover the pain... Took this stuff daily for over a month. This really is a hell of a drug. I also have insomnia, and got rohypnol prescribed for that. The cocktail of fentanyl and rohypnol is a fatal one, so i still don't understand how they could ever prescribe me this fentanyl. Luckily, i was strong enough by myself to stop taking fentanyl. I did it cold turkey. Afterwards, a specialist told me this is very rare to do on your own. Today i am still in pain, but i kind of accept it as you may understand.. Seriously, i will never never never touch this again, this stuff is like the devil. I pray for those people who are still in the fight

@Wingerd91 Been there, done it, too. Fentynal followed up with Soma, then Norco...after 8 mos use. All in a row. All cold turkey. 15 days of hell (avg of 5 days per drug) because I couldn't sleep more than 10 or 15 mins at a time. Never again. I've literally avoided necessary hip and shoulder replacement surgeries because I'm scared of being prescribed an opioid like fentanyl or morphine post-op.

Heart breaking! My 87 y old mom told me about this program! She trying to break a decades long opioid addiction. My brother died of sudden cardiac arrest + from cocaine 10 y ago. My mom would get shakes when she skipped her percs all prescribed by her doctors. I told her I think you have opioid use disorder as nicely as I could. I’ve been the receiving end of tantrums, insults and cancelled plans because she was too sick as long as I can remember . Now she’s homeless and lives with me, because she gave her home to my alcoholic sister. I tell my sister a sober person would have said no to an elderly addicted person. The abuse and vulnerability of those with the disease is atrocious. This disease of addiction does deserve compassion, but I pray the healing can come when the sick desire to get well. Thank you for compassion and value for those with disease.beautiful documentary.

@@MrBakedDaily it’s still a better alternative than Heroin or oxy’s or other opiates. You rebuild your life which with street drugs or pills you do not. Hustling for the days fix becomes the only motivation. Weighing options obviously today has more possibilities for productive lives. One mans answer is not for everyone. The judgement isn’t needed in today’s world. I got free using 12 steps and stayed clean guiding myself and no meetings. I feared opening up participating with a sponsor. I ended up putting my family together and loving them the motivation and it worked for me. I wouldn’t use for any reason fearing it’d all fall apart. My Kids are grown and all 3 doing great now there’s Grandkids. My way was rough but it worked/ works and I’m so proud of my family. My kids are all on track thinking about their futures. Life is great. Whatever works for you.

I have addiction in my family. Knowing this helped me make decisions pre and post operations. One of my docs wanted me on a certain dosage of a pain meds, narcotic or opioid. I said give me the smallest dosage, I have addiction in my family and I want an alternative, Tylenol Advil ibuprofen. He completely understood and promoted me not taking it after 48 hours

It’s a great documentary and it’s well worth it to watch it from beginning to the end. Wish humanity surpasses any addiction of any kind and continue our evolution becoming a more healthier stronger human kind.

What an amazing documentary. Seeing the tiny babies suffering with addiction is heartbreaking. Do they grow “healthy”?

Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 One of *THE MOST* thorough documentary on addiction... touching up on the actual scientific aspect of it; which is very important. For a short film --- this was *FANTASTIC* 💯👏🏻👏🏻

The best way to quit, is to never try, once you starting using drugs it's very difficult to quit, I'm a drug addicted and if i don't take drug my whole body feels pain and can't even sleep😭 I'm trying to quit slowly, so please do remember in your prayer guys🙏

I quit methadone and alcohol cold turkey. I ended up at rehab 15 days later.. I found how much acceptance was big towards recovery.. I did awful activities just to get my fix. What a hell i was in.

As a drug addict, I'm glad I never got into the deadly, mind numbing garbage like opioids, benzos. I like tripping out, thinking about life, reflecting, and getting scared.

R.i.p. Michelle Marris. My little sister lost her own battle with heroin back in 2008.. and I've had my own battle with addiction All of my life.. Kacy you don't even have to take the 11 other meds, if you check into plant based healing. Like moreanga leaf, tumeric and ginsing. There's 100s of healing plants that big pharma, don't want any one to know about.

My daughter is on Methadone and she has not touched Heroin in 4 years. We live in Scotland and it has a very high rate of people dying from overdoses. Take care sweetie and stay safe. X 🕊🌹❤

Nobody should be on 11 prescriptions. Unless they are prescribed by a shamen and are very short term. And always natural.
