Addiction plagues the country's reservations. In this talk, Joseph Schoning tells a personal story of what he's experienced and encourages us to help create a brighter future for the coming generations that grow up on reservations. Joseph Schoning is a 16 year old GED student, born and raised in Bemidji, Minnesota. He didn't succeed in high school because of anxiety and work ethic but always loved math and english. Since leaving high school, Joe has pursued music while doing PCA for his disabled grandpa. Doing everything in his power to make the best music he can, he plans on going to college next fall for political science and music theory. All of this is yet to be truly decided all he knows is he wants to change the world. He tends to spend his free time writing and hanging out with friends. His close family consists of a brother, a father and a grandpa, but he has friends that he counts as family too. Most importantly, he is honored to make his first step towards the future by giving a TEDx talk. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

We would never know how this youth man feels until we walk in his shoes. Society precedes Native Americans as less than, but let's not forget that, America is their land! I know what I'm talking about because I live amongst them, my family so please DO NOT JUDGE, DO NOT MAKE NEGATIVE COMMENTS, INSTEAD GIVE RESPECT!

I went to a Red Road meeting (based on NA bit with our own steps emphasizing empowerment) and that’s what finally worked for me. I stayed drug free, and I’ll be taking an addictions counseling exam this year. Keep on doing what you’re doing. You’re looking like a superhero to me!
