I was searching on how to add a border to the sides of the quilt still on the frame. I have enough backing & batting on both sides to add 4 inches to the width. The length is fine. So after watching you add the binding convinced me I can add not only the added border but add my binding too! I love my Q'Nique 15R Ive had it for about 5 years now. I don't have robotics but I did learn to use robotics at the quilt shop where I worked as the Quilter for customers quilts. I retired from that now I am working on my own quilts. I am also learning to use my embroidery machine and software from watching your videos. I love the DBJJ and Kinberbell projects ;you make.

I think you absolutely could add borders while on the frame. Then fold it out and iron on the frame too and then add the binding. Then cut using the tension of the frame to hold it for you. Make your life easy!

It worked perfectly. Thanks again.

I did this on a panel that I made into 3 wall hangings. I also decided to do a flanged binding (first time for both), so I had to attach the biding from the back. Before I took off my hoop frame and flipped it over to sew the binding on the back, I sewed around what would be my cutting line ( in the future, this would be with a CONTRASTING bobbin thread). It was a bit of a challenge doing two new things at the same time, but I made it work. I will definitely use your pinning method, that would have helped a little wonkieness. It’s all a learning game 🤪

I would like to have seen how you finished the binding on the back with the longarm machine. Louise

I finish the back on a domestic machine. Can't be done on a longarm. I only use this process to attach the binding to the front.

Loved the video. I have the same setup minus the QCT. I haven’t finished putting the frame together yet but I am loving the fact that you can bind on the frame!

Becky, could you run off towards the point of the corner (at the 1/4” mark) and not break thread?

Sure! I don't see why not.

I have same set up. I’m a newbie. Please please demonstrate how you load your quilt. Do you float your top and batting?

That is awsome!! Will have to try it soon. Wish u had a video of setting up the automation. I just got the QCT beginnings and will be setting it up as soon as I finish the quilt that I have on the frame. If u have any pointers I would appreciate any advice u can give me. Thank u for all your encouragement and teaching.

I'll be doing videos on automation soon. I just got the new machine last March and we left for 5 weeks so I haven't had time to play with it yet. Check out this video. It's great and it's what I used to set up my automation. I watched it all the way through first, and then went step by step. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iBpJnAxL8qE.html

Would have liked seeing you do the inside corners where the quilt widened. Do you do the miters the same? Thanks for the videos.
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
Well, I really struggled with that and ended up tearing them out and re-doing on the domestic machine....so no, you didn't want to see that! :)

When you got down to the bottom of quilt, did you join the ends of the binding on the longarm? Or, on your swing machine? Trying to figure out how to do diagonal seam to join ends of binding on longarm? Thanks!
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
Hi there! I join the ends on a sewing machine. There's not enough room to stitch the ends together to the correct size (length of the tails) and stitch them together diagonally on the longarm without also stitching on the quilt itself. Or it would be quite a feat! Here's my video on easy diagonal seams to finish a binding if you haven't seen it yet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qydwCA_qmUc.html

Hi Becky! Do you have affiliate links for Reb’s Fab Stash, Fat Quarter Shop, Sew Yeah, or Kimberbell? Just curious because I would love to shop through your link if you have one, Thanks!

You had already quilted the complete quilt before you added the binding. Correct?
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
On this one, yes I quilted the entire quilt first and then added this binding. You can do it either way.

Great video! I never thought about sewing on the binding--how smart! I have your same setup but my machine is the 15R. I love it! I'm still wishing for the cool light bar. :) Could you share how you decide how tight to roll your quilt when getting ready to sew the next section? By looking at yours I think I'm getting mine too tight. I haven't seen any guidance on the Grace website for this and would appreciate your thoughts.
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
When you roll too tight, you can get strained stitches. I leave a little 'flop' in mine where there is about 1-2 inches of give if I press down on it. Drum tight is too tight IMO.
@jennystrahley927
@jennystrahley927 2 года назад
@@PowerToolsWithThread That makes sense. Thanks for replying. I will definitely try your 'flop' suggestion. And guess what? Grace has the cool light bars on sale!! So I ordered one today. :-)

This is how I have always been taught and done corners on the binding and I’m not sure what you are saying about show quilts. I have been taught to blind stitch the corners closed on front and back and then I don’t think it makes a difference.
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
The angle of the fold goes different directions when attaching the binding using this method. That won't work (usually) for quilts that are being judged in quilt shows.

Do you use your channel lock?
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 2 года назад
I do not use the channel lock while doing this process. In a perfect world, yes I would because everything would be perfectly straight. lol But we all know that life isn't perfect. :)
