That power converter he has is basically an alternator. Would be equivalent to like a 160-180 amp alternator, his converter is a 120 amp, but doesn't have any vehicle related drains on it like the vehicles lights, gauges, computer, etc.
@Whatta u seem to know you're stuff with the answers u are given..so I have a 06 buick lucerne cxl and my battery is under my bck seats..I jus bought a xs xp1500 battery and put it in the trunk with my amps .So would I hook the ixous ultracapacitor to my main battery under the seat or can I hook it up to the xs xp1500 in the trunk with my amps??Thanks
@@lifewithkeith310 I know you asked this a long time ago but it has a mode where you can start your vehicle in an emergency. Otherwise it's basically a high amp 2ah battery so it has "no capacity".. even though it's a capacitor lol
Thank you for educating on this I watch and learn right now I got a Stinger AGM up front and a Xs AGM in the rear running 2 JL w7s in 4th order custom enclosure JL 1200.1 and 300.4but I’m interested in the ultra cap and gonna put some change to the side and get one .Great info thanks for bringing this back I’m tuned in and will continue to support the channel and showing ❤️from Maryland.and I’m open to all feedback slam Nation
If u buy this n use it right. U will not need a high output alt. It really depends on how big of a system u plan on goin. But if u hav a newer car that has a lot of sensors the ultra cap is the way to go. I have 1 in
That cap is worth every penny. It can even jump a dead car, start a car by itself. It pays for itself. Awsome purchase. Hoping to get one myself just to help the electrical.
fuck yes thats what i like to gear about a product i just bought. Going to be running parallel with Scib cells. Should be clean signal through out the bandwidth
Thank you so much for doing this test I've been on the fence about getting that ultra cap. How about you do a test with a lithium battery so we can see what it looks like. The thing that most people say about that amp when you need a huge battery Bank is because they want to run it with multiple subs. In that case yes you will need a little bit more
That ultra cap was designed for a totally different reason and they didn't work for the original design and the company had all these made and decided to use them for car audio applications.
I'm not gonna lie. I've been scared to get into the lithium. I've got 5 kids and it makes me nervous. So I'm glad ur gonna drop some knowledge on that! I've stuck to my AGMs. But I wanna get a bass 8k, and I'm gonna need that lithium power, ya know.
Yeah, it could be very dangerous if not done correctly and sometimes dangerous 'when' done correctly. Usually because of other components though. I think a lot of people are going to be a little shocked at what I say about it.
People are dumb with lithium they hook it right up to there 350amp alt that is made for a battery with a high ohm load but lithium is sub ohm stupid low ohm load so the alt never stops charging at full power And lithium has to be charged in a stepdown manner or else it kills the battery real quick
Do it have to be in that order. I see how u got the agm in the front ????? My only lithium is in my trunk. I did a battery delete and i have no battery inside the car ot under the hood ,can i put the ultracap in front the taramps under the seat where my factory battery location is and have the amp in the middle and keep my lithium in the trunk ??????
Capacitors have the quickest discharge. So it is 'preferred' to put it closest to the amp. This way, it can take most of the demand (power-draw) and save your battery the hassle of doing it. But as long as you have it 'somewhere' in the chain, you will see benefits.
just put one in and its making my amp go into protect and back out rapidly, i test it on a bench and it doesnt do it, take it out and put a battery in its place and the amp stays on just fine whats up with thag
@@BudgetBassHead thanks I got it. I don't see the purpose of it but I'm in. It's just tell me what my voltage looking like. I thought I could do more. What it is the purpose of the blue tooth???? I thought it would give me options to do things
Your clamp meter is set on AC current/amps. I'm not sure that model clamp meter will measure DC current/amps. The LCD screen says AC . Also measure on the positive leads too.
My main thing is I plan on running 2-3 in the back of car on 3 5ks. But I also have an ho alternator coming in the mail and a big 3 to do with 0 gauge running through the car. But you say keep as close to the power source, will there be a noticable difference? I plan on charging up to 16 volts.
So no fix on the box rise or impedence rise? After i seen yours it made me wunder so i started doing mine. I have two sa15d4 rev3 in a 2020 kia Optima special edition pushed by taramps 3k smart. I have wired at 4ohm final. The sound quality is beautiful but a ran my impedence and couldn't believe what i was seeing. Going to wire down to 1ohm hopefully help with that issue a little. There has to be a way to combatant the rise. Or buy an amp thats way more powerful than whats need to compensate. Id love to hear what youve learned. Awsome videos. O and the rifle is beautiful. Keep up the great work we appreciate all of your time you dedicate to us and all the great info.
With box rise you definitely want to get a bigger amp like if your subs or 1krms a piece you buy a 3k amp be cause your going to rise atleast 2 to 3 ohms and that 3k at 2 ohms will be like 2k so your subs will get the power they need some would even suggest a 4 k amp for a 2krms situation.
Hey bud I don't comment much but I need to correct you on something if you're willing to learn. When you pulled out one of the RCAs on the amp and said now it's 2 volts is wrong. Each one Will show the same voltage if checked with meter. Derek Haddock with Sundown showed this in a video. The channel is Sundown unofficial
I'm here to learn or help. How about doing a video testing this theory. I think there would be a mythe confirmed or mythe busted. Either way we would know. Just a thought.
@@BudgetBassHead I thought the same thing about the “inputs are summed internally ” line in my old school MMATS amp install book and was concerned about frying my inputs by giving them too much voltage from my line driver so before putting it back in service I took to the forums and emailed the manufacturer. What I learned was 1) you can fry rca inputs if you run the above recommend voltage (how far above or for how long???) 2) most amplifiers don’t give you more power (or at least not enough to be worth it) above recommended rca voltage. And 3) inputs summed internally means the signal not the voltage is summed. The person I was talking to in the forum got really technical trying to explain the why for me at this point and completely lost me. MMATS emailed back months later with a single sentence saying rca voltage is not added between the inputs. Something to look into
So im running the skar 150.4 and a cab45 on door sleakers and two vxf12s. I installed a brandx 320 ho alt and big 3 , running stock battery on engine. Do you think this ultra capacitor will help and be good for the power draw im probably never going to full tilt and never run my system with car off. What do you think. It was this or the xs power d3400
Just wanted to add that SparkEd and Richard Vedvik also have some informative videos on Supercaps...Ultracaps... and how they work in conjunction with your existing batteries.
@@BudgetBassHead he works @ or used to work for Showtime Electronics and now works at his own business at sparked Innovations and is a dealer for xs power
I mean damn I wish I had the equipment that u do cuz there is a lot that u can test for like ie some pro audio set up still use clam shell for subwoofers now does clam shell help move a recommended box spec more efficiently? Idk things to think about
Yes if you have more batteries you will get more power, that little ass pc power supply is not going to do anything especially with cap's, it was killing that little thing trying to charge cap's, get more batteries and caps also get a couple of intellicharger's you will see more power.
Great informative video. I realize this is more of a test bench setup, but be careful running 4g to the MD 8k. I clamped over 8100w on mine and sucked up quite a bit of current ~700a :) I use dual 1/0 to 1/0 reducers since I use mine as a continuous daily instead of a burp SPL build. Just subscribed!
you need to have your meter in DC mode not AC as you have it that meter may not even do amp's in DC only AC also you will not get full power at that 3.5 ohm's
You should do a test bench how to most of the ones I see the power supply is always wrong or under powered and people like to think it's ok because it turns on it's right and will probably catch there home on fire because of the wrong power supply and wire bing being wrong used you and mybe 5 other people I have seen with the right set up for at least 1000w or more 👍👌✌️💯🎵🎶 ps i try to tell people this all the time in you tube comments and most people don't listen or care
@@BudgetBassHead Tru mybe it because I do electrical work and they probably never have but they don't even have a open mind about it and how dangerous it could really be that to me mind blowing have a great one till the next one 👍👌✌️💯🎵🎶⚡
super caps are no band aid and the discharge and recharge faster then lithium the only thing lithium have over it is that it stores more energy so it is good to always pair the super cap with at least 1 agm
These aren’t your basic little capacitors from wal mart. Super & Ultra caps are TOTALLY different. You can run these with lithium. They’ll take up to 20v also. So you can charge them all day @ 15.5 along with your Cmax. I bought one 1/2 price a couple weeks ago & going to add to my 45ah Cmax & limitless g10. Ready to run 2 smart 5’s and should be just fine. Plan on using it under the hood to start the truck & then should help stabilize voltage since it’s charging rate is so fast.
@@collinquick7439 I called loxus myself because I had heard these were recalled due to a fire Hazard. Rep told me one out of thousands sold did so they recalled them. I also asked what’s the max charging rate because I had Cmax at the time. He said 20v. I’ve had mine now under the hood for 2 years at 15.5v just fine.
The lower the OHMS of the subs, the higher the WATTS of the Amp. I DON'T think its worth it, because when your sub/ subs and tuning of the enclosure is tuned and your enclosure rise is between 1.0 -1.9 ohms the Taramp will be pushing over 8000 Watts and will be consuming more power that will crash your volts and amps from that Ultra capacitor back down to the mid 11 volts. Putting you back at square.
The reason he got such large amps in the first place was to increase the power at those high impedance loads. How can he reduce the impedance rise? A different box design? Different subs wired to 0.5 ohm? How can you manipulate impedance rise?
So... if I be understandin this correctly, if we was to compare, these two pacific energy sources against one and nother, the one that the community be referin to as Super, has the Juice now. The SuperCap be startin my shit and keepin the Brazilian big booty amps abumbin. So in retro plex, Superscapsters are like side chicks that want it fast but get tired, but them Agms are like wifes that last too long?
Ohhh I love it. I just bought one of these not long ago but haven't gotten to the system in my Total 3rd gen 4runner build. So this ultra cap is going to be running with 192 ah Lifepo4. Those batteries you picked up is what I've been using for years. Headway 38120's. You're going to shit on how much of a difference that's going to make. I built 3 of those that you have. If you get the right bus bars they fit perfectly in a empty 3100 battery box. But yeah, I have Alllllll this power for 10k watts at full tilt. I'mma have power for days and days and days!!! Frick yes!! 😁👍
Yes it is working in this scenario just fine but if the Impedance Rise was less (lets say 1.5-2 ohm) then the output power of the Amplifier would have been more which in turn would have caused the voltage to drop lower.
Yeah, thats why he is using such large amps, because his impedance rise is so large. Do you know how to change or manipulate the impedance rise? Maybe change the box design? Maybe get some subs that wire up 0.5 ohm resistive? How can you even measure real time impedance without a $500 meter? Can a DMM measure it?
First time watcher and definitely a new subscriber. Great content, well executed display, walked us all through what you had going on and how to set it up correctly. Showed where all the test equipment goes and what numbers we’re looking for. Look forward to more of your videos. 💯
Cake truck!! I want that to stop by my house!!! Hey lil Debbie why you don’t come by sometime!! 🤣. 10 years on that ultra cap 🤘🏽. I need me one of them for my system in the making.
To best understand the reason for minimizing the power cable length between capacitor and the amplifier, it helps to understand 2 things. 1) that wires carrying current act like an inductor that impedes or resist changes in current, thus causes voltage drops during momentary peak demands from an amplifier. 2) The second thing to understand is that capacitor's capacitive reactance resist changes in voltage. Thus capacitors closest to the load helps to stabilize the voltage at the load. Points 1 and 2 together helps stabilise the voltage for the amplifier.
so, a way i was taught by an electrical engineer, look at it like a faucet, a bucket and a hole in the bucket. the alternator is the faucet, and the battery is a bucket and the amplifier is the hole in the bucket. the cap is just adding a second bucket the first one can fill faster, but its still at the original mercy of the alternator/faucet. if you bump your setup with 200 amps of draw, you'll only have a few minutes before the voltage drop will not recover due to the first bucket being drained.
I was thinking about getting one of these super cap for my set-up. But now I know I really don't need it. Already have done Big 4 and yellow top optima battery under the hood xs power d925 battery in the trunk for a single fosgate t1 12 800 watts rms subwoofer wired to kicker cxa1200.1 amp. All 0 gauge ofc wires.
So question. In that set up. If you Eliminated your AGM battery. and ran the power supply straight to the cap. you say the cap will not turn on unless it sees power. ok, so why don't? When you turn on your power supply right then and there. The battery will have voltage at the top, thus turning on?
Just some input on wire. Your counting strands but each manufacturer uses different diameter strands and when u use tinned ofc u lose even more copper diameter so when u say this 4 gauge is equal to 2/0 your equation is not working. For example weigh the wire you have compared to sky high or any premium cable and you'll notice a huge difference because of the copper weight difference. You really should be running two runs of the 1/0
Yeah I cringe a little when he says his oversize 1/0 is equivalent to 4/0 welding wire... Not even close. I can't fit my 4/0 copper welding wire into my Taramps MD 8ks inputs. But I digress, we are all learning. I learn something new every day.
He's actually going by the wire core diameter that knukonceptz posts. They list their 1/0 wire as having a 12mm diameter. AWG lists 4/0 as having 11.7mm diameter. This is why he states its equivalent to 4/0. I personally measured it to be 10.5mm which is about 3/0 size. They say their 4ga is 8mm (just under 1/0 specs of 8.25mm), but I measure 6.5mm which is about 2ga (9.3mm). I'm sure the tin coating adds to the size, but it also carries current so I doubt it inflates the diameter very much. I doubt you would see any difference in weight compared to SkyHigh tinned ofc cable. I believe they are also slightly oversized just like KnuKonceptz.
@@Widowmaker2828 I believe the MD8000 is listed as having 2/0 inputs. You need to measure their inner diameter to see if it matches 2/0 specs which is 9.3mm. Technically you should not be able to fit 4/0 (11.7mm) wire into a 2/0 (9.3mm) hole.
The polymer is more unstable than lifepo4 big time. I'm stoked you got some bro. Itll compliment your ultracap. You bout to have stable voltage. I've learned when they're room temp they don't perform as well as when they're 90-100 deg. I've got 2-72ah banks now feeding a xs sb-630 farad ultracap, now my little 7-8k system doesn't stress a bit. Ive got 2-120mm fans, a temp controller in a stout box I built w/2 new and 2 poss coming from each bank n again, that shit is powerfull af brah... Stoked to see what you do with em man. Keep the good content comin. N you was right bout loving your next video
I added a 240 alt.. kept stock battery.. Orion was killing my voltage.. added the cap and was very impressed.. I'm holding 13.5 and up.. usually 14.2/14.3 . Very impressed by this capacitor
@@gaugeyoung8270 lick flicker will never be solved. Unless you're running an excessive amount of bank. Your best bet for fixing light flicker would be to get LEDs. This cap would help for voltage drop which is probably why you're looking into it
You are so good at teaching you have tough me more in just 2 of your video then I have ever got from years of the other guy on RU-vid I have been a exo fan but I think you are a better teacher thank you thank you
excellent teacher for understanding it and showing it . most no respect I probably would also go on rambling during the teaching and never go back it's a just do it type thing.
hey I got a question for you I have 2018 ford f150 super crew cab I have on back Costin box subwoofer with 4 8" subwoofer have two amp one have 1200 In the other amp 2000 I need to put a capacitor So my lights from inside den flashing
Just bought 2 for my 2 3k smarts taramps . They draw hella power and I have 3 batteries. Now I will have 5 batteries 4music 1 under hood plus 2 Caps. I shouldn’t see a drop just straight pounding 😊
Your voltage drop so im guessing you have your converter set to charge instead of fix. I have my set to fix along with an agm and it holds at 14.4v (set mine at 14.4v). Not sure if i should leave at fix or charge setting.
I would not buy one brand new thiugh. They don't really degrade much. I just bought one off of amazon for 130 bucks. Shit fir that i can afford to buy another one if needed in ten years. Or next.
I rather have the 5k paired and the 5k is cheaper and better for them budget subs you were showing !!! Please don’t put a 8k amp on them at full power …good nite Irene 😂😂😂
Your amplifier is in quiet mode you have to have music coming through your amplifier so that amplifier can warm up then you would know the difference turn your volume on eight and see if the amplifier warms up
I thought u said have the ultracap closest to the starter ,then put the amp close to the cap???? In my car my lithium battery is in the trunk and my cap would have to be under my seat where the factory battery used to be and my amp in the middle of the lithhium battery and the cap. Is that ok? Cause i dont have no under the hood battery
I’m pretty sure on the taraamps they don’t have left and right inputs on mine the red is a single rca in and the white rca on bottom is a single rca output
When I woke up today, I never would have thought that I'd be learning about car stereos and capacitors from Paul Pierce. For real though, thanks for the knowledge! Truth!
