Yeah not so much he selected the wrong plant. This plant will thrive in water up to 20 ft deep it will take over the entire water weigh it will make it all but impossible to fish it will choke out the sunlight from any other plant species to get a proper footing. You cannot get rid of that plant without using a small tactical nuke🤦♂️🤷♂️. I hope he's only planning on Stocking with shiners Minos yellow-belly catfish and freshwater bowfin. Add some freshwater clam and some giant snails. Maybe some bluegill some pumpkin seed.
@@Kruegernator123 yeah crayfish would help but realistically in less than 5 years without taking any drastic steps. It will be a thick matted Green carpet from the bottom to the top. You get a boat stuck on it🤷♂️. He will have to start Waging War with copper sulfate. There's a couple other products out there that will help but it will kill and poison just about everything in there. Even if the instructions say it's not going to cause that much harm to animals and fish. Believe me trust me it will.
@@Kruegernator123 really would have liked to see can put a couple small narrow slopes of Fieldstone several Stones deep and started crawdads on it. Plus Minos. And shiners. Make at least one side have a 25 degree slope with sand and place a bunch of freshwater clam. Put in some floating islands with ramps on all four sides for turtles. They're such a myriad of things that could be used 4 natural and or artificial nesting sites for catfish. I just can't believe he put the worst plant you could ever put in your pond in his pond🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤷♂️
@@Kruegernator123 after seeing him drop that plant in the water. WTF bro okay back it up beep beep beep. What are you doing.? I'm feeling the whole back in with dirt. Don't judge me this is your fault🤦♂️🤷♂️
One of them nature cameras over the ponds that takes a photograph every 3-6 hour or so in a timelapse could be really cool to see the spread of the vegitation
Wait until he makes a mini ocean and maybe a hotel, a atoll pool which is like a pool but man made, but an atoll pool is mainly made right next to an ocean, and maybe even a nature walk, with some ponds. Well now that I think about maybe not a big hotel but maybe one with lik 25, 50, or like 100 rooms.
I’d Recommend You Getting Spawning Mats for your ponds so that whenever the bass nest they are able to nest in the spawning mats. And Note Bass and Minnows Love Algae so as soon as you have enough algae your bass would love it! And If you’d ever put any minnows in the ponds, add more algae so they got food. Also Fact Minnows Eat Algae.
Have you ever swam or considered swimming in one of your ponds? It looks so beautiful and peaceful. I’m sure relaxing in a pond wouldn’t hurt for all your hard work
We definitely need to see more underwater videos with the new ponds! I'd love to see what they look like from when you first add vegetation to when it's completely taken over some parts.
I’d love to see a video at the way end of the process, where you show us photos of the ponds in the various stages of progress. I want to see it all come together from start to finish.
I would love to see some under water videos in the new pond, hopefully it stays this clear!! Also I still love seeing the turtle videos where you make them turtle friendly foods (: Those are my favorite!!
I recommend adding baitfish, and I stand by that there needs to be an artificial floating island in the middle of each pond, or, at the least, a collection of brush that forms a small island.
For small bait fish you could also add shiners or minnows. I know your are already adding mosquito fish. I love how clear your ponds are. You could also add more crayfish for the pond
So glad you put that crayfish in the new pond. Please continue making videos of fish and other wildlife being added to the ponds. Looking forward to seeing the mosquito fish and the turtles entering that magnificent water.
I been watching your channel for a while, have to say I love it ! Especially how you creat this new eco system in the lake! Awesome 🤤 Cant wait to see the fishes etc to move in
Love watching your new pond coming into shape. I am guessing frogs will find their way there by themselves. Thought Crawdaddies did that too, but never hurts to seed a few of them. Take a year or so to get the ponds really going, I guess....
Little crawfish: "Today's gonna be AWESOME! You never know what's right around the corn..." (SCOOP!) "Holy crap, this is it! I'm moving to a brand new swanky pond. This lil crawfish is moving up!"
Might be interesting to see how the crayfish fares with more buddies, unless they can cause havoc in the pond ecosystem. I'm looking forward to the development of the ponds! Awesome content
How big/small is the old pond compared to the new ones and what gonna happen to it after you moved over the fish and turtles? Also, will Edgar know about the new pond once you start feeding there instead?
The old pond was nearly 10 times bigger than these new ones. There are still hundreds of fish and turtles living in the old pond that I don’t feed. The new ponds are hundreds of miles from the old one so sadly Edgar will not be making the trip.
I love these videos so much! can't wait to see how this pond ages. Also i think it's common for people to rinse plants with diluted hydrogen peroxide to kill off algae
awesome, im glad you're adding some nice substance to the ponds, i dont know a lot about this stuff, but what if you added like a dead tree or something into the bass pond? i dunno if you have some dying trees on your property or not but if ya do, they might make a nice place for the bass and other fish to hang out in
Just a note, Lily Pads can take over a whole pond. Here in Florida there are ponds near us where someone put Lily Pads in them and the ponds are almost completely covered with Lily Pads.
You should probably get a pair of long tongs to feed the fish with. Also when you get the fish in the pond you definitely got go swimming or scuba diving with them, that'll be cool to see.
I had no idea we had wild hornwort in Texas. This weekend I collected a stem plant that looks vaguely like s. repens from an isolated pond on my family's property, I still have yet to sterilize it lol, it's been sitting on my desk in a ziplock all week.
Hornwort is a good food source for ostrocods aka scuds aka seed shrimps. Good food in and of themselves for baby fish and small minnow type fish which make for good feeders for the gar.
Looking at the ponds, I'm concerned that the turtles might crawl their way into the alligator gar pond and possibly get eaten once the gar are big enough. How would you prevent that from happening?
I think he will probably introduce them all to the ponds when they are an appropriate size. So initially both Gar and Turtles will be small - hopefully they will both grow simultaneously so that the Turtles will always be too big to be eaten. Subsequent turtles and Gar introduced to the ponds will probably have to be raised in a nursery pond or something. I'm not sure how people do stuff. Maybe just put a bunch of turtles in there and hope mother nature figures stuff out?
Then that turtle wins a Darwin award I guess. Would the gar even be able to eat a medium/large turtle? Seems just as likely that the turtle could hurt the gar. That the circle of life though. He is basically keeping native wildlife in slightly modified natural conditions so I'm sure he accepts there being some risk of unplanned predator/prey interactions.
You should try planting vallisneria and dwarf sgitarria, they are carpeting plants. Maybe some water lotus too, they are like water lilies but they also produce pads that grow high above the surface of the water.
I cant wait to see the fish put in! And wow the water in your pond are so blue! If I ever had my own land I'd like a pond too so that way I can also feed the fish and turtles :)
I'd love to see little model ships floating around in that lake. Like old fashioned model Galleons etc. It will make the Turtles and Gar look like sea monsters :) EDIT: Also, read some of the other comments. You could add cameras underneath the boats!
