An update on the japanese medaka ricefish and the pond. showing that it is possible to keep these small colourful tropical fish in a cold climate like Ireland and the UK. #Pond #Aquarium
These fish are brilliant and bullet proof. I live on a narrowboat and work nights. In the winter the aquarium temperatures regularly drop to below 10C, sometimes as low as 4 or 5. They are a perfect fish for the small ponds that people so often have, far better than goldfish that require constant maintenance. I’m in the process of putting together a tub pond that will be going on the roof of my boat and I have every confidence the fish will be perfectly happy there. Thank you for sharing your pond. The more people that get into these fantastic little fish the more chance we will have that the fancier varieties will get into the U.K. aquatic shops. Regards Warren
Thats very cool! I'd love to see that. They really are a perfect little fish once they get discovered I'm sure they'll become a lot easier to find in the UK😁 Thanks for commenting
I breed these on my balcony here in Singapore. I have gold lame, red emperor, deep sea blue and red stardust. Such fun! I hope to continue when we return to London....
This was very interesting. I have a small pond and these little fish would just be beautiful in it. I didn’t know that any breed of tropical fish could be kept year round in an outdoor pond
Very cool. I've got a pond setup. But couldn't find a decently priced rice fish. Is your mate still breeding and selling them? If so, does he have a website yet?
Anywhere that freezes that have native fish, those species can survive under the ice. People even ice fish for Trout, Pike, Carp, Walleye etc by cutting a hole in the ice and dropping a line through it.
