As a game dev myself, your devlog series has been so inspirational for me in my own game dev journey. I am so happy to see your videos Courtney and I pray that may you reach on top of steam charts in the opening week of the release. 😊
how do you take care of everything OoO. I mean at the same time you develop the game, draw its art, think all the ideas, manage the discord server and even hold weekly events. Dont even have to talk about how ur video explains it just enough almost like you know what to do for everything :d I admire you keep going
It is often huge progress when they are a seasons artist / modeler themselves; quite amazing to see how artistic skill elevates and speeds up progress!
I am not sure that i will end up playing the game when its done, but i still want to stick around here to watch it come to life, i really want this game to be a succses
Oh yeah, it's all coming together :) I like the direction of the blacksmithing mechanic. And the idea to have 3d models is *chef's kiss*. I'd suggest making the outlines for the models just a tiny bit thicker, that way the characters will gel better with the rest of the art. Unless of course you want the characters to stand out. Looking forward to more!
I am in absolute awe of your talent and commitment! I remember watching the first dev log back in March and being completely amazed by your idea and watching as it comes to live little by little has been amazing. This is definitely a journey I want to follow till the very end! Your dedication is truly inspiring and I really hope everyone will be able to appreciate how much work you are putting into this game.💖
the character designs are wondeful! i really enjoy the game's aesthetics. since winter is my favorite season i cant wait to play the game once it's released!
A very cozy and interesting devlog! Smart choice with capturing animations from 3D models. I have worked on isometric games, and that is exactly the solution I arrived at. Can't imagine drawing all the animations in isometric perspective from scratch.
I just bindged your current dev vlogs, and im blown away by the beauty of this project. The game you're developing wouldn't normally be the genre I'd be interested in, but i have to say, this looks irresistibly beautiful, and I can't wait to play! I'm considering getting into game dev (working on my first text-based adventure in Python atm), and it's creators such as yourself who inspire me to really give game dev a real shot. Thank you!
when this game enters early access, I would definitely recommend MadMorph to play it, as a cozy game like this is right up his ally, and it would be cool so see a content creator I admire, and a game I hold close to my heart interact with each other!
AHH! Woke up this morning and saw this on my feed-- what a treat, seriously! Thanks so much for continuing to share your progress on the game-- it's inspiring beyond words & your hard work and skill is so so evident throughout everything I see about Crimson Hollow. Unbelievably excited to see your future progress!!
This is incredible! I cannot wait to play this game. The Devlogs are almost therapeutic. I can see this world gathering a cult following. It's familiar but unique. I'm here for it.
We only saw one tool usage animation(the mining one). From that clip it seemed like swing had no impact and no power put behind it. U can try to include hole body into motion and give it a bit bigger windup. Also u could make different animations for different angles so they are clearer(like in Don't Starve Together). Game seems vary fun and since selling point are visuals i think that cleaning up animations would be exremely helpfull to make game more immersive.
Looks really cute! A small suggestion: The anvil looks very modern to the rest of the game though... If you want the anvils to be more historical (and unique) look up "Church Window Anvil" on google. The anvil shape basically only existed for the past 150 years max. I think the Church Window Anvil will fit your world better. It's not your fault you went for the shape of anvil you did, because Hollywood has been doing this wrong since forever. Since I know a thing or two about the history of blacksmithing, I always check out blacksmiths in game, for how well they recreated it, and it's always so fun to see someone put in that little extra detail!
Comfort games arent my thing, but game dev content is my fav media to consume and its really nice to see artists venture into this medium, myself included. Keep up the great work! Really wish you the best of progress!
I'm new here and I recently find out that I have so much passion for creating video games and becoming a game dev.. Your channel gave me so much inspiration and I add this to my wish List...
Hello my name is Stewart, I've been a Unity developer for years and your work is to be congratulated!!! Very beautiful and very well made. Keep it up and if you need help you can count on me. A big hug.
You are so talented! I have dabbled into making my own games before. The amount of knowledge and work needed to do a game solo is insane. Can't wait to see more updates!
I love seeing the progress! i am sure its on the list already but I feel that making the shadow dynamically move with the character as well as a little bit more sound design would really ground the character. The part I heard of the player running through the snow could probably use some more crunch. Maybe like scrunching a bag of frozen peas getting mixed in would make a better snow step sound. Very excited to see how everything turns out.
Wow the art style of your blacksmith building looks so good, it instantly got my attention and gave me a feeling of warmth even while covered in snow, it looks like somewhere I would love to retire to, so charming and cosy. 👍
I just started development of my own game, and it's kind of scary how similar our concepts are lmao. Yours is much more magic focused but a lot of the mechanics, systems, and functions are the same or similar, so I can't wait to see the final product!
Crimson Hollow sounds like a horror game rather than a cozy smithing sim. names like 'star dew valley' and 'harvest moon' are just great in giving a peaceful and cozy vibe. Imagine playing animal crossing, but it was called 'road kill'
the amount of effort this content and the editing of video let alone the game itself must take for ever. I am so happy i stumbled across this channel, thank you and your effort is greatly appreciated. Very inspirational
I see the artwork and the amazing progress you're making on accomplishing your dream and it always brightens my day! As always, stay brilliant Courtney! You're doing a fantastic job on Crimson Hollow and I'm so happy to be here for it!
These Devlog Videos are such a great idea! Seeing all the work you pour into this from the cute game to the discord channel is very inspiring. Love the character art and moon cycle idea! I'm definitely whishlisting it !
Your art is amazing and it is so satisficing to look at, I can make your videos look more impressive and grab more audience retention by my editing skills.
Not in a financial position to help with Patreon right now but I did share this video on multiple platforms and added to my wishlist on steam. I hope that helps until I can get financially stable enough to help because this game looks AWESOME! I love your art. And the tap-tap-tap on the anvil for crafting is just... So satisfying. Lol Looks like it's gonna be a ton of fun!
Game looks amazing. As a side note, you can also use [SerializeField] private Text text; or whatever else to ensure encapsulation of your code. That way it will still show in the inspector and wont be accessible by other scripts. Also you can set up your IDE for intellisense with unity to get syntax highlighting and code completetion. The project is coming along fast and Im excited to see where it goes
to add onto the moon cycle thing, you can add a reflection to water or whatever reflective surface may be on the ground just for detail. (I know this is very late)
One suggestion: i saw you drag the ingredients. Instead of the player dragging them in it would be better for the game to auto-collect it from the bag.
Wow! You’re an absolute natural! You make it all look so easy! No doubt this game is gonna be amazing! Would love to know more about the character animation process
I love watching your devlogs so I can learn something, as I am planning on making a small game myself, but other than that it just genuinely makes me so happy seeing the progress you've made!
I am so jealous of how quickly you progress! You have a great art style and I can tell that you have a lot of grit for being able keep pushing through these difficult problems for your game. Keep up the good work 😄
Amazing work! The art style is really good. You should add squash and stretch when interacting with items in your inventory. You should also give any collectible items (that the player is close to) a sweeping shine shader. This way the player knows what objects / items they are able to interact with. Another thing you can do is to give some of the objects in the world some sprite bending (I noticed you did that for your fishing pole). You could have thin objects (like that leafless tree) softly sway in the wind, all you have to do is add some “bone” segments to the areas you want to bend, then apply a force to push them in the wind direction. No hard animation required! Keep up the good work!
I know it's in early development and I'm still really impressed by your progress from the first devlog video but I have a suggestion/request for gameplay mechanics: Whenever the player is running/sprinting compared to walking/mining (a task with slower movement), is it possible for you to make the camera zoom in and shake a bit to add to the depth of the 2D space? I noticed some *very slight* lag when running and feel like adding the zoom would counter it in a way. As for the energy bar I think its a great idea since the player can't see the sky. Keep showing us your progress!
I love how these are coming along. I think it would be cool if your max lunar energy was also tied to the Moon Cycle so you get more energy on certain days. Maybe a mega boost on the crimson moon day. Keep up the good work!
