Love what you have done to help you use the big bin… xxx I don’t like it when you say it’s nearly done as miss ya lol. Isn’t it funny how I feel???!!! 😂 Can’t believe how tiny the babies are- I know they are tiny but not seen tiny in large amounts if that makes sense and looks different to just 1or 2 . When I transferred my bins last week after picking the breeders out- I filled 1 and a half 35 L under the bed boxes . I never thought I’d fill the first one but it shocked me with the amount of bedding that came out- have used less this cycle as just don’t have the space to do that- only have 4 bins max so will mean it’s used up in like 2 cycles . Hoping the new one will take one box and I’m hoping that that will mean I can then maybe start sifting the first lot. That’s my hope… I’m also hoping the one that’s part filled I’m hoping to be able to do what you have done and do a dry down so I can get some of it sifted out without the babies in it. And then add the caccons back in to one of the other boxes and hopefully then I can take some from the full box and do the same so that eventually I will have very little castings and just bedding and caccons in a new bed. That’s the hope. May need some luck or some advice if anyone has any

Hi Cheryl! 😍you’re sweet 😍 These guys in Orange Julius aren’t even that small anymore! I’ve got a few bins of even younger worms from the last breeder bin reset 👍. That the things with making breeder bins and therefore cocoon bins. You’re adding to the bin count every cycle end. That’s why I have to be a to sift out castings every cycle - to reduce volume so I can combine cocoons into one bin. So yeah, you’re going to have to figure out your space and bins and what you can manage. Babies do migrate but take longer cause small pockets of moisture along the way to the food zone make them stop and linger. Bigger worms need bigger pockets so move more quickly. Fluffing on a daily basis to break up moisture pockets will help move the babies along as well as truly dry down the castings, making sifting easier. Win-win! ❤️🪱🪱

@@RockinWorms ok I will bring the half bin back into the house and make room to fan it dry, and sift it down so can get the volume down…. And will over the full bin with some cardboard so that it can start taking some of the moisture up into it- so when I can move some over it will be a little less to start with I hope.

Wow, that's a lot of worms! 😳 Out of curiosity, what's the plan when it comes time to harvest? Or should I just be patient and stay tuned for that? 😋
@RockinWorms
@RockinWorms 11 месяцев назад
Hi Evelyn! My plan is to do a combination of feed zone harvest and top harvest to remove the vast majority of the worms. I’m hoping that I can delay harvesting until they get bigger and less likely to go thru the 1/8” mesh screen. I plan on adding fresh bedding as long as I can to achieve this. We’ll see! ❤️🪱

Do you keep lights on all night to keep your worms in your bins
@RockinWorms
@RockinWorms 11 месяцев назад
Hi Mike! I do not keep lights on if I’m not personally using them. I’ve only had escapees once and that was a few weeks ago when I had way too many worms in a small holding bin and left them inside another bin so they wouldn’t dry out. But they were so unhappy that a few made a squiggle for it. In a counterintuitive fashion, open bins actually keep worms in! The sides are dry and that stops the worms from being able to use moisture to escape. If course nothing is 100% but I’m happy with 99.99% ❤️🪱

Good morning, What kind of grain mill do you have?

@@johnwood1099 Good morning to you! This is the grain mill I bought: EVERYGROW Grain Mill Grinder Electric Corn Mill Grinder, Dry Grain Mill Grinder with Five Screens, 1000W Dust-free Grain Mill Grinder, 120V Wheat Mill Grinder Corn Mill Grinder 6.6 Gallons (25L) I really like it! It’s great for DRY grinding. Anything with moisture (even dry dog kibble) will gum up. That’s NOT an affiliate link. 🤩🪱

@@PatriciaHall-cw2ks Hi welcome! Biota? It’s all the small micro organisms on a worm bin ecosystem. It’s more than just bacteria, which is more common to be said. It’s fungi, viruses, all the tiny animals like mites and pot worms and little spiders, etc. that all play a role in a fully functioning, mature worm bin. They all deserve recognition and respect! 🤩🪱

Hi Jayne hope you’re doing well. I’ve been trying to do worm bedding as you do but we don’t get anyone or know of anyone that sell or donates cow poop. I opted to turn to eBay. For it but could only managed to get cow poop pellets. Well the thing is it doesn’t tell you how to break it down for worms … please help n I want my new bedding like yours as yours looks so juicy and healthy. Great video.

Hi Bev! I think the easiest most direct way would be to grind it up into a powder using a grain mill, coffee bean grinder or similar. Otherwise I guess you can rehydrate it by soaking or steaming it into a slurry, then draining, drying and mashing it into a powder or finer granules. That seems like a lot of nasty work though. Maybe you can steam it in a double boiler to soften the pellets. Then mash it, dry it and powder it. Wait. What if you take the cow poop pellets and mix them into wet pre-compost and let them rehydrate and soften. Once soft you can squish and mix it into the pre-compost, let dry down to desired moisture level, and then add to worm bins?? Ha! I think we’re on to something now! What do you think?? ❤️🪱

@@RockinWorms Hi Jayne Rite I’ve put 1/4 pack into Water to soak overnight I’ve put cardboard and coffee grounds in it packed it in one bucket then put that bucket into another bucket surrounded by cardboard in between hopefully that will help heat up and soften. lets see how that goes,… tomorrow I’ll put 1/4 into steamer see how that turns out. I’ll put 1/4 of dried into a blender to see how that goes. Fewwww …. We got this Jayne it will not beat us!

I gave up with that. I turned out the 1/4 bucket that I had steeping. It still had hard lumps so packed it all back up added a bit more warm water to it left it turned it out this morning and Yes it was all soft and mixed in like a dream. Now to get rid of the smell out my house 😂😂😂. Thank you chick for all your help. Stinky house but nice soft cow poop 💩 ❤️
