The super retrocade, which I have, supports nes, snes, genesis, game gear, mame including neogeo, and also turborgrafx 16. If the legends deluxe supports 2600 and Colecovision and other precrash, that would be cool. The super retrocade is just insert sd card and create a png file image for the roms.
This turned out great, and as a big fan of your channel, it was awesome to help and give back a little. I never would have picked up this thing if not for you, and I'm glad I did. Looking forward to contributing on the next update!
BTW, it's probably worth noting that SNES ROMs must have the .fig extension, so depending on how you down- uh, dumped your cartridges, you may need to rename them from .sfc or whatever in order to get the console to see them. Just changing the extension works perfectly fine.
I appreciate the assistance. I'm new to the modding stuff, but I think I have it. I just bought a unit for $35.00 and will be putting away my Retron 77 and my NES mini because of this one unit. Thanks again.
Another Great Video I love these little consoles You would Love the Super RetroCade Keep Making Vids We Love Them And Thank you for taking the Time to Share with us Brother.
I really appreciate you saying that! I do want to try the retrocade. I hear they’re much less temperamental than these things. And it supports more ROM types. Hope you had an awesome holiday!
Still trying to find out what is 0.1.7 update does but: From AtGames: My apologies for the delay! Our dev. team had to convene on the issue and were able to provide a custom firmware that should resolve your issue here: nextcloud.atgames.net/s/fKoqc7NMptHK2JC Please let us know if it doesn't! Thank you, AtGames Customer Support
You’re too kind KDB. Lol and I can’t take much credit because big Jon does the heavy lifting. And thanks to EC & James-Mac, We prevented potential disaster. I was definitely gonna slap the current update on this thing because that’s what we had to do on the last one. But that was not the right move. Mur Nation comin together to make gaming work. It’s a beautiful thing!
Recently, AtGames has released an update to me which set all thing to rights. They were very responsive and got my system back to factory with all benefits through the main menu and the SD card functioning. I have been very pleased with AtGames and their Dev and customer service responses!
Regarding update 0.1.7 update: The update fixes some minor audio/visual and gameplay bugs. It also enhances compatibility with our Legends Ultimate arcade unit. We have a page dedicated to our release notes here: firmwareupdate.atgames.net/release-notes Thank you, AtGames Customer Support
@@Emceemur I was a bit nervousabout trying this update again as I just got this unit replaced but after testing through some SNES roms that seemed to have some sound and slowness issues, this 0.1.7 update DOES INDEED fix those issues! Dragon's Lair and StarFox in particular were of particular issue but once 0.1.7 update for the MODEL NO: FB8660S ws applied, these roms are running easy peasy and without the lag and sound issues!
Emceemur indeed. My initial issues I believe came from that custom firmware from rrifonas on GBATemp. Once I was working from a clean machine, all was right as rain. Also, a big high five to AtGames. Their responsiveness was outstanding!
I have found the update that allows you to play sms gg nes & Sega bin ROMs. Its on my desktop. There's also a read me file included on how to set it up
Ok so NES, SNES, Atari 2600 and of course Genesis are all available to play through the SD card. Has anyone tested with other rom formats? I would love it as the unit runs some Coleco as stock games to be able to add Coleco roms as well to the SD card.
@@Emceemur I agree. I've tried searching online up and down for trying to get Coleco roms to work but to no avail. I'd love to be able to play some Lady Bug again and Pepper II on my son's AtGames Legends Flashback (50 games) game box. So far, I can only get NES, SNES, Genesis to work. Also hoping that somewhere down the line, it may be able to play Turbografx 16 games as well.
Thought folks might want to know that if you use the Sega 6-Button Arcade Stick with the original AtGames Legends Flashback, the 'Mode' button on the Arcade Stick can be used to access the on-screen menu. What this means is that you can insert credits into arcade games by quickly pressing 'Mode' twice. It also means that you do not have to walk over to the console to access menus when using this joystick. Does anyone know if this is the case for the 2019 unit? The reason I ask is that when I discovered this in the old unit I went a little overboard and built a full-sized, two player arcade cabinet around the unit using two of these sticks. If the new unit, that can now play NES and SNES games, has the same 'Mode' button functionality it might be time for an upgrade! Great videos, they made my arcade cabinet possible.
I want to make sure I understand this correctly. Did you mean that putting an SD card with Roms into the device could possibly cause some of the Factory Preloaded games to stop working?
Most likely it won’t. It’s the updates that caused the issues. That was basically my disclaimer. AtGames products can be temperamental for lack of a better word. And if altering these units in any way renders them inoperable, I’m not going to be held responsible. I just want people to understand that this is experimental and results will vary.
Another question. When I change the SNES extension from sfc to fig, I get a message saying that changing the extension may cause the program not to work. Is this going to be a problem and should the game work anyway if I manually change the extension? And also, I know the system doesn't like blank spaces in the ROM titles, but can you put dashes in the Rom Name? Thanks again. And I just subscribed!!
@@Emceemur Thank you for your time and answers. I have 3 of your videos saved on how to add ROMS. There are a lot of us out there who aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, so your help is appreciated. The extension you used for the SNES files was .fig I hope that just changing the file extension manually will work. Thanks again and I enjoy your channel.
Thank you once more for your participation in another fun AtGames project. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Looking back since we met, we’ve really made some amazing things happen.
I wish this was a more clear process on how to get roms ready. Is john using two different programs here? I have Advanced Renamer and it doesn't look like what he is doing, There is no comparison screen before/after like he discusses. I am just not getting it. I also haven't been able to get my system, the one you are using here to let me access the card slot. Does it have to be a certain card? I have a 16 GIG pny but I started out with an ONN card. I haven't had good luck with either one.
As far as I know, advanced renamer is all he is using. Making correct file extensions, prefixes for convenience and eliminating spaces in the file names. I am also using a PNY 16g card. Of course, be sure to format it before use. Then add a folder labeled “GAME” and paste your ROMs into it. Make sure there are no other folders/sub folders in the GAME folder. And we will cover in tomorrow’s vid that there is a limit to what the system will hold and read. Anything potentially above 7k roms renders the files unreadable and I’ve had to separate Nintendo on one sd card and my Atari & Sega files onto another one and just alternate Em depending on what I wanna play.
To save time, just format the card, add the GAME folder and one rom file, then pop it in. Because if it ain’t recognizing the SD card, that’s a separate problem. You may need to exchange the console. You can fart around with firmware updates too because they offer em. But note that I did no updates to mine.
You can see that he's using two different programs. The top one looks to be some FTP program that he's using to do batch unzipping. The bottom one is Advanced Renamer, which he's using to rename the files once they are unzipped.
3 questions please. Can I use a SanDisk 16gb mini SD card for this? What file extension do I use for Sega Master System roms? Can the file names have dashes in them? Thanks for the video. I'm really excited to try this.
Not sure on the mini. That’s one more variable in a very persnickety procedure. We couldn’t get Master System to work on this and when asked about it, AtGames said as far as they knew, it wouldn’t work. And dashes should be ok. I ran tests on a lot of special characters, punctuation, etc and it didn’t mess it up. Thanks for watching this!
Really wish i could find any videos with an explanation of why my roms won't load. Select a game from the SD card (tried both md and bin files) and the screen gos black, then im back at the sd card menu. Nothing is loading off the sd card :( . Anyone have any ideas/fixes?. Using the LFB2018 model with 50 games pre-installed.
Thanks! Gonna go check that out here soon, and looks like I'll have to buy the new version lol so glad I stumbled across this video . BTW, you have a new subscriber. Totally following your channel now . Thanks again!
Hello! I have the flashback legends of 100 games. In the menu it does not allow me to access the sd card. Is it possible to add more games in this model? Thanks a lot!
Did you have to unzip all the ROMS or do you leave all the ROMS in a ZIP format before you put the SD card in your system? How can you add Colecovision & Sega Roms?
I unzipped em and copied them into the GAME folder. We covered Sega already in the followup video so you can check that out. Colecovision Im afraid probably won’t work. No way to implement the virtual keypad onto those roms.
@@Emceemur you have to push a button to bring up the keypad on the unit. I am wondering if that is part of the rom or if it is a feature of the machine itself.
The menu button on the system will work if you press it twice! If you have an original 6 button sega megadrive/genesis controller with a MODE button that would work the same way also
Would a game like Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo play smoothly on here? And does the console need to be updated at all? Or can I just open it and plug an sd card into it and it will work fine without any modding?
Turns out, I have to update my firmware in order to play Donald in Maui Mallard and The Jungle Book because they won't play on some TV's without it, and I happen to have one of those TV's. The most recent update came out in February this year now, anyway, so I think it should be alright.
You bet, man! Thanks for watching this! Yeah I understood it that there were audio issues on a couple games that it fixes so it’s probably worth it for that.
I stood right next to one in Sams the other day and I just couldn’t do it. $500 was just too much right here before the holidays. But my wife actually wants one so I guess we’ll get it eventually? Probably after Christmas tho.
@@Emceemur : Ok so seems mine is special cause I have tried this multiple times and only NES and Genesis games work. SNES just goes to a blackscreen and goes back to file selection screen.
Sounds like a problem with the ROMs themselves and not the file names. But that’s just a hypothesis. When the file names are bad, you can’t even select the game icon.
@Emceemur, I’m lost with this stuff and I really would love to get this sd card. Is there anyway I can buy the card anywhere? I’m a big fan, left a like and subscribed. Great vid, thx again
Thanks Charles! That’s awesome. If you mean buy the card already set up, probably not because there are serious legal implications on selling something containing software you don’t own rights to. But if you get a blank SD card, I’ll do everything I can to help guide you through the process of setting it up.
What about adding game graphics instead of the blank tabs? Will we be able to do that too? I know....a lot of questions. But you have good videos and great answers.
Now, the graphics/box art, I don’t know about. I’m afraid to make unstable the work we’ve already performed. It’s not worth it to me at this point. Things are so temperamental with the flashbacks.
@@Emceemur Thanks again for the reply, which makes perfect sense. One step at a time and you've already made huge steps in making this system one of the best from At Games. Because of your videos, I'm close to having all of my ROMS ready for when my system arrives from ebay next week. Maybe you'll find a way to do the box art? Who knows.
@@Emceemur Thanks! So excited to get this going and kids to play it. Great videos. Does the firmware need to be updated for it to read ROMs? I have the roms but just not sure which ones I can add
Great video Mur. I recently picked up one of these consoles along with a few fully loaded SD cards and I'm having a blast. It's almost too much and I'm having a hard time deciding what to play but that's a good problem. However I've encountered a few little hiccups and I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a little. I have a ton of NES and SNES roms and while the included Sega controller works with these games, I'm curious if you found a 9 pin NES or SNES controller that is also compatible. I've seen a few 9 pin controllers for things like the Cool Baby and other clone NES and SNES classics but not sure it will work with this console. Also, I have a little glitch with NES games. The controller literally maps the A to A and B to B but on the Sega controller these buttons are reversed from the NES and for my NES files it won't let me use the remap feature on the console. Have you encountered this? Thanks Mur. Hope you are well.
does this work on the Legends Flashback without the "deluxe" printed on the box looks like the menus and console itself all look the same as well as having 100 games on it stock
Has anyone figured out how to make thumbnails work on this? While not critical, it'd be a very useful in quick recognition and game selection, possibly even organization if you adjusted the images a certain way.
People have said yes. Experts have said no. And as far as extensions, the jury is still out on that. We wanna try to get TG16 games put on here as well.
@@Emceemur I think that a lot of people that have problems with the SDcard, simply did not create a folder named "GAME" or kept the folder zipped! That is what I did! 😅
Hi again. I followed your instructions to the T. I'm using a formatted 16gb Sandisc SD card and the Genesis, NES and Super NES Roms all work. But the Atari ROMs don't. I formatted them like (for example) ATR-Adventure.a26 And everything has no spaces. When I hit the symbol to play an Atari game, the screen goes black and then it goes back to the menu screen. What am I doing wrong?
Another viewer/commenter that frequents the channel had a similar issue. He just commented like within the last 24 hrs that he bought a deluxe model and now Atari is finally working for him. He’s been in touch with tech support a good bit. I don’t think they know for sure on their end, but now he is hypothesizing that perhaps there is coding/an update on the deluxe that allows it whereas the regular version won’t. It seems a stretch given they’re the same emulator but, he had the same compatibility issue you’re describing...
@@Emceemur Hi Mur. I appreciate the reply. Do you mean he was in touch with ATGAMES Tech support about the Atari ROMS not working issue? I would be surprised that they would be willing to discuss something like that. But maybe they would in order to work out a product problem. Can you offer any other options? Is there maybe another way to code the Atari games? I do appreciate how you support your viewers. You know what's strange? When I turned my unit on for the first time, it never prompted to do an update. Even if it did, I would not have done it. It would have caused more issues.....correct? Thanks again.
Good morning. In what format the ROMS, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and MAME Arcade have to be. The Legends Flashback Video con solé wil stope. You could tell me
Well Mur, here's where I am at. I have Legends Flashback but not the deluxe version like yours. I am assuming that the only difference between the two is that there are 10 more games on the one you have, none of which I like anyway. I assume, and you know what they say about that, that the units are the same and work the same otherwise. The AT tech department told me to update so I did because I figured I already had at least one game that didn't work anyway soooooo what else could it hurt, right? Wrong. Besides "Donald In Maui Mallard, it also wiped out 8 other games. They Are: Eliminator Boat Duel; Super Starwars Empire Strikes Back; Super Starwars Return Of The Jedi; The Humans; The Immortal; Brutal Sports Football (Beast Ball); and Hostages. Not only won't they play, the icons for them in the game menu have completely disappeared leaving only a space. I am going to take this unit back to Walmart and get another one. However, I am still in contact with tech support, if they ever answer me back, and try and get to the bottom of this. There is an icon on the game menu for the HD Card, but when you scroll down it is bypassed and the cursor goes back to the top. In my opinion, it shouldn't be there as an option at all if it isn't supposed to work.Oh well, at least I should get back the games I lost. Maybe if AT gets enough of these back they will do something about it.
I bought a hackchi snes already basically hacked it was working fine and now won't play any of the other system games that it did play. So looking for a way to fix that. Also I obviously bought it because this stuff and all these names like picodrive and retroarch or just adding them onto my flashback just won't read. I've done it all to try and get it to read but unfortunately no success. We need like a video for dummies because this isn't so easy when u have no source knowledge and just want to get all your favorite games. I want my son to play what I used to. He loves all that stuff and I can't figure out how to do it. Please help. I have a atgames flashback with the 6 button wireless one. Unless there still the same just different cases?
2018 only runs Genesis roms. But we added thousands to it and it was cool. There are how-to vids for both models on this channel so subscribe and check em out!
slightly stupid question, im not sure what if im doing something wrong, but the "SD card" space is yellowed out, ive searched online and all i seem to get is "get the update" which im hearing is bad...what am i screwing up? lol
Hi everyone. I managed to get one "Legends Flashback DELUXE (110 games)" delivered to my country (France) from the USA. But sadly, I got no manual in it..... I can see that manual can be found online as a PDF file for standard version (FB8660) but I cannot find it for DELUXE version (FB8660S). Please anyone, post a link for it. Thanks a lot. Cheers.
Murrr how are you? Hope you had to great holiday. I bought that legends flashback today great lil system might I add.. Can we add sega genesis roms to this console??
I just emailed AT tech support again and thought I would share what I said to them. It looks like version: FB8660S v 0.17 I realized the files in that photo were something else. I got the update but thought what I sent you was it because I was expecting a zip file and it wasn't. I cleared the downloads i had and redownloaded the update thus figuring out which file I had to download. I followed the instructions you sent and the download seemed to work. However, I still can't access the HD card on the games screen. Also, I haven't checked all the games but at least one doesn't load. That game is "Donald In Maui Mallard." I have gotten two of these units and both have had the same problems. One of the units came from e-bay the other one came from our local Walmart store. I got this unit because I watched videos on RU-vid and saw that there was an HD Card slot. On the reviews they were able to put their own roms on the unit and they worked. I followed their instructions religiously on how to name the files etc... That may work but only if the unit is recognizing the HD card slot properly. I was also interested in getting the unit for Atari and others but if i can't get this problem straightened out, maybe I won't. I sure hope we can get this straightened out.
So I got my Legends Flashback with the 100 game bundle, and I had already prepared my sdcard. Shockingly the SNES games worked on the one card, but the NES games did not work. Likewise my Genesis games work fine, but my Atari 2600 games did not work. I know this video deals with the Deluxe version only. Do you think that I need to update the console before the NES and 2600 games will work? I know the update isn’t needed on the Deluxe version. Anyone know if the update is needed? The Firmware on the Legends Flashback is V0.1.13, but the update on the AtGames website is V0.1.17. I’m thinking I need to update this one. My only fear is ghat it won’t work at all if I update it!
According to AtGames the 100 deluxe update is not compatible with the regular 100 game version. I have two ROMs prepared exactly like Jon at Gen X just like you suggested. The Gen and snes work just fine on both cards. I’m leaning toward doing the update and take the chance.
I probably should leave well enough alone. I have an Atari Flashback with 1000 ROMs, so I don’t need them on my Legend Flashback. At this point the only games that I can’t play are the older NES games. I play all my SNES and Genesis games just fine from both SDCards.
I just got back from the store with another one of these levends flashbacks and it won't recognize the sd card either. I have formated the card to fat32. I am going to try the other 2 formats and see. I also put the games folder on it with the roms and the console won't even let me pic the sd card.
I just got the newest update on the original arcade legends flashback and It litteraly just came out Ive been frantically trying to get a how-to video or forum on adding NES ROMs PLEASE PLEASE HELP
If you’re talking about the older legends flashback with the 50 games included, I never got NES ROMs to play on it. That said, the update was from a year ago. If you do have a newer update, you should be able to file & list your NIntendo ROMs as described in this video and they’ll work. But they never did for me on that one. Only Genesis.
It plays sega games out the box as well.. end the roms in .bin and they will work so must rename all from .and to .bin and sega will read as well no problem
Yes sir! Glad it’s working for you. I’ll be adding additional ROMsets next week and then we’ll have a followup vid. This unit was definitely a worthwhile purchase.
I have a chromebook, I've updated the Legends Flashback, and I put .nes on NES games and .fig on one of the SNES games and they won't show up. What did I do wrong and what do I have to do.
@@Emceemur I have the GAME and data folder and most of them are working, but after I update again and put another game in the GAME folder it doesn't show up and I had no spaces in the files.
I never updated this one to begin with so that’s a variable. And it’s generally all or none as far as the functionality of the ROMs. That’s strange. How many bad ones are we talking?
By bad, I mean not loading on the Flashback. Even if they work on PC. Because I also have a handful of em that don’t load but out of 10k roms, its kinda just whatevs.
Mur, I was checking on ebay for these units and they are being sold by many for under 25 bux. I did see one idiot's post for 800.00 + 11.95 shipping. Is that a hoot or what?
Just another day on the Bay! Nothing surprises me on there anymore! It’s the wild west! Actually very risky to sell on there now. Buying is guaranteed tho.
With an hdmi port on this unit, it plugs right up to a capture card for easy streaming. And while I could potentially stream and run the game on my computer, in past experiences, streaming and running a game program simultaneously has been a strain on it. Of course if I had a better PC, yeah, it’d be just fine.
That’s where the renamer tool comes in. You can organize the setlist any way you like. Although there’s probably a way in Windows to alphabetize them in the folder before pasting them on the SD card.
Man, that’s so wild. So just to recap, others had the Maui Mallard issue after updating. To be clear, you did not perform an update, right? And you have at least one rom file on the SD card but it won’t even let you highlight the menu tab?
@@Emceemur That is correct. I bought one of the machines on eBay that was supposed to be new but was opened so I suspected maybe it was updated. I went to walmart and got one that was new and had the same problems. The card I am using is s pny elite which is capable of reading 85 mrgs per second There are slower cards which I ordered a couple of. And yes they are all 16gigs.
That’s weirder’n a 3-balled cat. So lets think logically, we can’t completely rule out defective units. Although we just about can given the fact they came from two different sources but they could still be in a range of manufacture dates. If your card is set up with the GAME folder and the ROMs inside it, it should be fine. But additional to the data is you have Maui Mallard not working on either one. So back to it being the unit again. There have been new fix updates released that I haven’t used. Because, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. But I would email AtGames support from their site (they respond within a day normally) and explain the scenario to them. I think they could either recommend an update to install or replace the console again. If I can help with anything also, message me and let me know. Keep me posted.
@@Emceemur I tried to do an update by downloading the update and doing what they said but the machine is still not recognizing the card. However, I unzipped the file to see what was in it. There seems to be copies of all the roms in two files "Commercial Educational" and "Commercial Games", the update and a pdf file with 23 pages of information about the method they used for dumping, and other info on at least some of the games.
I put sega games on this no problem how do i put nes and snes on the console and do they have nes and snes controllers that will plug into this ? Gonna be weird with the sega controller
This video explains how to do it. But yeah, you’re gonna have to use a Sega controller. I recommend the original 6 button. It has a great dpad and you’ll get used to it.
@@Emceemur thanks i was doing it right for nes games they dont show up i have the legends flashback 50 games so i take it this doesnt support nes? Not sure what im doing sega roms good
Boy, wouldn’t it though? That’s actually more relevant now than ever due to Konami’s epic flub on the mini distribution. I will plan to try that very soon so stay tuned.
@@Emceemur Keep us posted. Would love if you manage to figure out how to get TG16 games to work on this box. I've been wanting to relive some Dungeon Explorer and Legendary Axe gaming lol
I would love that too but the results are in and it appears that TG16 does not work. The only things that will are 2600, NES, SNES, and Genesis. But that’s still pretty cool for a $40 unit!
@@Emceemur Thanks for the heads up. I had tried TG16 roms as well, both using the .pce extension, as well as .tg but that didn't work. Maybe someone will be able to hack a new firmware for it in the near future... may never happen but I'm hopeful lol. But yes, still very cool for a $40 tool, one that was gifted to my son from a family friend so even better Lol!
Hola amigo excelente video me sirvio mucho con los juegos de nes pero los de snes no me funcionan le cambio el nombre a los juegos con extencion smc por fig pero la consola no me corre los juegos sabes que podria ser??
.fig is the correct file extension for SNES. If the ROMs aren’t working, you’ve either added too many, used an SD bigger than 16g, or have characters or spaces in your file names that need removing.
The 50 game console only plays Sega Genesis. The 100 game console plays the 4 consoles discussed in the video. My Español is a little rusty but I think that’s the problem you’re describing.
Help I can't even get the sd card to change from yellow. Does it have to be an SD card? I'm trying this with a micro SD card with the SD card adapter it's 8 gb. I got rid of spaces changed the .smc to .fig put in a folder called game, compressed it (zipped it) put it on card and nothing..... I have a theory that I tight because I have no way to connect it to the computer so I'm trying to do it on phone. I delete everything off the card but the compressed "game" folder. Still nothing **edit** so my laptop has a slot for an SD card so I don't need phone cause it kept adding files and In the video he says .sfc not .smc. so I tried with the sfc. How ever it is still not working only thing I can think of is it doesn't work with an SD adapter for micro SD card? **edit 2** ok so the problem. Was putting the folder in there compressed lol I'm dumb ignore all above, new question how do map the snes controls to the controller? I can only get "a" and "b" to work, not x ,y,L,R, or start
The map function happens on screen but it only lets you map x y z a b c to their respective Genesis buttons which is redundant. Unfortunately its not optimal for SNES games that require all buttons.
@@Emceemur dang it I was trying to play breath of fire which is like 3 buttons accept cancel and menu to change gear. Start to pause game but also wanted to put pocky and rocky on there to play with girlfriend which also is a 3 button game. Attack shoot and bomb. But I'd I can only get two buttons to work the. Crap. I figured I'd atleast be able to get four since x and y are also on super nintendo
This may not be the best reference for that. But if you watch my video on modding last years model, it may go a little more in depth. Feel free to email GenX Jon as well with any questions on the renaming.
No you don’t. I was hoping you hadn’t so that wasn’t a variable. I don’t know, man. Maybe it’s defective? We’ve had some folks whose units just wouldn’t cooperate. How many game files did you add?
I played it. While it has Colecovision games in it, it seems to only play Genesis, SNES (I didn't see it on my own, but others did), and NES. The Super Retrocade seems to play more and a better choice unless want to play built in Colecovision games.
So far as I know, no. I have only gotten SNES, NES, 2600 & Genesis to work. I recently reviewed the Arcade1up plug n play though, and it will play the gba games just fine. Thanks for watching this! Subscribe and stay tuned.
