Today we are adding stairs onto our 625sqft deck. What seemed like a simple task, cutting stair stringers, turned into quite the task for us armatures. None the less we continue to push the build forward one step at a time.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

I don't know who has worked harder or who has the most beautiful build. They are each unique. "Red Poppy Ranch", "Hickory Ridge Homestead" or "Wild Wonderful OFF-Grid". All three of these builds have been close to 100% self builds. Disaster builds have been Pure Living for Life and The Crockers.

It's never fun when you're working outside and it starts raining, but when it's done it will be fun to run up and down the stairs, and thank you for all the smiles and all the laughs 30 years ago I was in trade school and I design my first house, A-frame home Cottage it's amazing to see how close to my blueprints that you belt your home. The time you spend with your children playing and having fun is more important than the schedule to get the Build Completed, I have a friend that has been building his Home for 35 years, and still lives in the Basement, but they have 6 children and 42 Grandchildren, that have been Raised with a relationship that will withstand anything the world can throw at it, Sadly His eternal companion passed away, but her spirit lives on in their children! Watching the build of your home is not what brings me back to your channel with every vlog, its your relationship as a couple and a Family! You have an amazing Family, keep up the Great Work with Them, and even Leon Knows he is loved and cared for!!!! Spiders not so much Eh!

It is awesome that you are supporting "Folds of Honor." As a retired Navy vet, I remember a time in the 70s when the Navy suspended the requirement to travel in uniform because of the vitriol directed to service members in airports and other travel venues. It is encouraging to see that a lot of that has changed. Thank you for supporting the fallen and wounded.

In military we say no pain no game. Each minutes, each tasks are challenging and at the end of the day; they are proudest of the accomplishments. No matter how long it takes; doing it own house, deck and more to fallow; are what make life to enjoy each present moments and so much more in the future for upcoming generations. This is priceless hardworking. Josh keeps those glasses on. Medical can’t provide eyes and a $5 protective is less expensive than an hospital trip. Cheers with nice weather.

I watched a so called master carpenter build a small building. The floor was like a trampoline when you walked across it. This deck will last a very long time.

@@alexhatcher8812 yes that is a concern. What do you think about the orientation of the deck boards, running lengthwise with the entrance and stairs instead of perpendicular, won't that make it slippier?

Erin, Josh put them safety glasses on LIKE A BOSS! 😁 ETA guys: you stick to goals, you’re committed to the one quality you’ve thought of creating… IT TAKES TIME, you can’t rush art and what you two are doing is a work of art! It takes as long as it takes. I fabricated a string of lights and it took me 4 attempts to get it in the quality I wanted it…. Now I know, now I’m happy and the 4 attempts do tell the tale of me creating something which has meaning to me! Keep rocking!

Put a gate on the sides so you can just use a big scoop in the winter to just push off the snow in the winter,alot easier on the back,no lifting.especially down the road when you're older,that's what I did for my deck.

You guys enlighten me and my wife with the sheer passion towards building the house inch by inch yourself although there are other RU-vid channels who have been working on similar projects but end up taking help for roofing or plumbing etc. U guys have done a tremendous job in the recent years and I'm delighted to see what's coming next. You guys are the reason why we both decided to try and diy most of our construction. Awesome work as always. I was however wondering, have you never thought about buying a party tent of say 10 by 20 feet and use that as your spot to saw/drill etc? With all the rain interruptions, you could at least keep on working partially and you wouldn't have to scramble to keep the tools dry all the time. Just a thought I had.

The fact that every single part of this house build is taking longer than expected is absolutely normal. This is why it must be taken into acount when foreseeing it. Just add about one quarter - or even a third - more than what you expect, then there will be no surprise.

This deck will last long time. If you ever watch professionals building anything they will build it with speed in mind cutting out as much time as possible this means as long as they follow code requirements they are done but code requirements are put in place just enough to make sure it's safe. When you build your own you take the time to make sure everything is done right and you will go way above the code requirements. You guys are amazing. Watching your videos makes my stress melt away. Much respect to you guys for everything you accomplished.
