Will the "Friendly Domain Name" only work for the computer you update the HOST file on or will it work on all computers on my local network? If not, how can I make it so every computer on my network can use my Friendly Name to access my Intranet page?

Brian Kunde you will have to make A record pointing the hostname to the IP address of the server in DNS settings if you're using Windows Server to host.

Brian Kunde You might be able to with your home router, which brand is it? And do you have a managed network switch at all? (Some of them allow for dns management)

I'm using a Netgear WGR614v10. Do you know of a reasonably priced router that has the Local DNS feature? What is this feature officially called?

Brian Kunde Hi Brian, this is just local DNS pointing. (Not dyndns) which is a online service - that points a host name (myhome.no-ip.com) to your public ip provided by your isp. Advanced networking equipment such as Cisco have this feature already built in. However, you got a Netgear device will be compatible with OpenWRT firmware (it basically allows you to do a whole lot more with your device, including local dns management). The only issue is, you will need to flash the firmwire onto your home router (it's like operating system). You can google openwrt, they have an active website and community. I'll sure RU-vid will have some tutorials on how to flash your router.

i see you commented 3 years ago but anyway ill comment...just right click on the notepad icon before you open it and select run as administrator
