Historically, the United States has taken a punitive approach towards treating drug offenders. Yet, the evidence is clear that punishment alone does not change behavior. Deborah highlights the research on what does (and doesn’t) work for changing behavior among justice-involved drug users. Her research centers around correctional rehabilitation with a focus on identifying effective interventions for offenders, problem-solving courts, risk/need assessment, and cross-cultural comparisons of prison-based programs and practices. Current projects include evaluating a specialized probation unit for the supervision of 16-24 year-olds, examining access to medically assisted treatment for criminal justice involved individuals, and providing assistance aimed at reducing prison crowding in El Salvador. She has served as a consultant to local, state, and federal agencies on the topic of assessment, treatment, and program fidelity within both institutional and community-based programs, and helped to develop the National Association of Drug Court Professionals’ Adult Drug Court Best Practice Standards. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Yeah, it gave surveillance to the area to make sure that they know where the people inside are to protect the officers and people around the area. What did you think they would do? Rush in headfirst blindly into hostile territory? You feel threatened by the big, scary helicopter? What did you think was going to happen?

Some people's whole life can quickly become all about committing crimes, or getting revenge all over a bitter misunderstanding. Dont mess your life up and so many others all because you didnt take a pause into reality. Get a grip of yourself, before its to late.

Great, but dangerous to debunk AA bc it’s all about cognitive behavioral awareness

Good - but giving examples of actual community interventions in place and their efficacy would be great. This is more of a theoretical talk.
