My biggest Theory on Beastmaster is that it's main utilization will be The Hunt. Basically you tame Elite Marks and gain them as a Demi-Summon akin to Summoner's Primals. I think it would be a cool way to promote the Hunt more to new players. I think it would be cool too see someone use a Queen Lunatender on a boss or something.
@@Celis.C I could see at least some of the marks being able to be tamed, but them not being the sole source of tames, given the large variety of creatures to find in the world.
Alternative idea: Defeating the Hunts (maybe as any class) can unlock a challenge for the Beastmaster that THEN gives the Demi-Summon. This way, youdont step on the toes of Hunt Trains, and instead it builds upon the system that is already there
This is my headcanon, but Krile got inspired by the Isle of Val expedition and the primal Eureka to create a new school of magic that operates on the basis of creation magic but in a controlled, safe and colorfull fashion.
If I remember correctly Hythlodeus wasn't good with Magic that's why he declined the seat of Emet-Selch. On the other hand "Not good with magic" by Ancient standards might still be good enough to use Modern Standard Combat Magic
While I don’t believe pictomancers were ever seen on aetherys, I do know that one of the enemies from another shard that you can fight in the Hero’s Gauntlet was an Inkmage. If I were to guess tho, I think it will be a new discipline, like MCH. I was really happy when it got announced, a part of me was holding out hope for Pictomancer! Great vid as always Scribe!
Pictomancer was in FF6 used by Relm. Was the only time I believe it appeared in any game. I don't have the exact time link since I can't find official FFXIV day 1 stream, but it's talked about extremely early in the keynotes while discussing the reason for a name change in German.
We got pictomancer in bravely default 2 around 2 years ago It sounds far from ff series but its still within square enix Edit : it is also appeared in ff brave exvius under character with name Peony I just noticed that her weapon looks very similar to pictomancer from the ffxic
Dont forget we've seen two kinds of "pictomancer / picture making" users so far in game - the one Omega raid where we had to use paint brushes to manipulate the field, and the paintbrush wielding user in the Hero's Guantlet. While not related to Aetherys directly; it does make some sense if the shards had some use of the "art".
I think it was the Chadarnook fight? Sigmascape V2.0 with painting perfect counters to the mechanics via Alpha's Chocobo Brush (which is a nod to Relm, and her base weapon in her appearance in Dissidia FF Opera Omnia). Heroes' Gauntlet in SHB had us pit against Spectral Ink Mages, which may seem like Arcanists, but instead of pets and carbies they sculpt spells Flambe II (kinda like Fire II) and Absolute Gravity - such spells not known to the ACN repertoire as we know it. Heavensturn 2022 as well? The woodcut painting of a tiger was on the field, and an apprentice of an artist released the tiger from the painting and the creature had been the target to take down in the event FATE. That sounds like pictomancy - preparing the masterpiece in advance for instant use as it takes time to create one.
Relm Arrowny from Final Fantasy VI was the first Pictomancer in the franchise. Her art looks like the class gear shown in the Fan Fest. Yoshi P. did mention it.
I honestly hope that beast master doesn’t use wips because it’s a limited job, if we get a wip user job I would really want it to be ranged physical that can be used in main line content
The Viper reminds me of Ziadane from final fantasy 9 who gains axcess to power dual blades after combining his weapon in the synthesis shop. Interestingly enough Trance was the limit break mechanic of final fantasy nine and was triggered by a surge of emotions. Thinking of that actually is getting me excited for the class as FF9 is my favorite games.
I made a pictomancer OC for KH module homebrew years ago and yes it worked very similar to this one! I’m SUPER excited to see it! All my friends texted me about it as the Champaign went for easily 10 years! This may feel like coming home for me~ I can’t wait.
Since Pictomancer supposedly keeps both fast spells and creations taking time I like to think that it will either operate either casting a big spell and then having option at fighting similar to phys ranged DPS (think Summoner with green/yellow lego where big spell gives us multiple uses of quick spell) or the opposite way where we operate on short casts or totally immidiate spells and certain combinations of those spells chained together will allow us to prepare for a big, powerful spell with long cast time.
I would personally love if Beastmaster had some connections to somewhere in Ilsabard that's lacking in lore, like Landis or wherever Daguza's tribe is from. I say Landis mostly because of Lyon.
I know BST is a long way off, but lore-wise… it fits my character so well, and I’m more than happy to wait until 7.x to make it my “main” job despite its limited status. Ugh how I wish it could’ve been a normal job in a later expansion though…Oh well 😭.
pictomancer seems like a support-focused caster class, maybe similar to bard. the painting landscapes ability implies raidwide buffs/debuffs imo. I think this would make sense for krile too.
I saw that suggestion and thought brought up elsewhere as well. Kinda the Bard/Dancer analogue for Magic DPS, with the more modern-day effect flair of something like Reaper. Going into secondary support buffs also helps it stand out considering both Red Mage and Summoner already have (weak) supportive cures and resurrection utilities.
Viper to me still looks like they use godspeed strike from Bravely Default, so why not pictomancer as well. In BD2 the picto could apply different weaknesses and status debuffs. Keep FF6 flair of course, but they do have a second game to possibly use.
On the subject of Beastmaster, it could be the one-handed axe and shield. I think Lyon (a notable beastmaster) uses that combination in Bozja, and it would still be kinda unique in that warriors use a two-handed weapon and BST would use the one-handed ones. Otherwise i'll be trying Pictomancer first because my main uses all kinds of summoning and it's just perfect for him. Edit: yeah he does. Just had to progress further into the video.
Beastmaster's bestiary will probably be similar in design to Blue Mage's spellbook I feel. On the topic of BLU, I'm hoping Blue Mage will get some sort of revamp with the introduction of a new limited job on the horizon (like an actual Limited Duty Finder), however, something tells me it's best to expect the bare minimum with new BLU content... Here's to hoping Beastmaster players get the best with their job!
I feel like we won't get whips due to two things. First is whipping animals isn't seen as a good thing, and especially not something a hero would do. Second is if we can use the whip on non monster enemies, there's a risk of something looking bad, like whipping a dark skinned enemy. I feel like, if anything, we'll get some kind of baton of sorts, able to direct and instruct our beasts, with the first quest giving us a beast to use. In terms of gameplay, i imagine beasts will be in 3 categories with 2 subcategories. Tank, DPS, and Healer basically, with Melee and Range focus. Each beast will have unique stats, might have some unique abilities, but likely a lot of them being shared. Additionally, might be a chance they'll have some kind of unique traits, like a Malboro being immune to statuses, or a Chocobo being able to reduce cooldown time like it's speeding up gradually. I also imagine the actual combat will have you send out your beast and direct it to a target or location, having the hotbar taken over by whichever beast is present. You'll have some skills of your own though, such as being able to heal, buff, or swap out your beast. Though i imagine the swapping out would be limiting how often and with how many, likely letting you have a selection of three. And lastly, i can only imagine all the skills would be able to be manually interrupted if needed, and many being able to be cast while moving so your Chocobo doesn't stop in place to kick when avoiding damage.
Good taste on Viper. Its subtle qualities that make it cool is only really appreciated by Twin Sword/Twinsaber appreciaters but its still the most hype part of Dawntrail for me. Ive waited since 1.0 for a dual sword class specifically of some kind, and i did play ninja alot as well. But daggers are not swords and reverse grip is not Sword grip. The Zidane qualities just push it to perfection to me since ff9 is my fav game and Zidane is my favorite character. Hope everyone can find something they like in Dawntrail and ff14 can continue to get even better.
there are also one handed axes that haven't been used by any of the jobs yet (that I'm aware of) so things like Hatchets, Throwing axes, tomahawks etc are on the table, but as you said :we shall see.
With beast master, I’d imagine it’d either be blue mage with Uldah clothing or the ultimate pet* class where we teach an arcane creature special attacks, perhaps by having it eat the Aether of monsters. *not a true pet class, but something akin to a carbuncle or fairy.
You can see the traces of the brush over the enemy, just like in Okami. :) A circle for the Earth spell, zig-zags for the Lightning spell. As for Beastmaster, a part of me wishes that it focuses on ONE monster instead of ALL monsters. It would probably make the job easier for the programers too since this monster mechanic half-exists since ARR... Fighting at the side of your trusty Chocobo companion. :)
For the hunter lore, it's either big scary monsters, or bad guys - a bounty hunter. It could go either way, if it's the later they "could" give us that Bozja closure where we hunt down Gabranth in the Viper story quest. EDIT: Oh! Before the Picto job was revealed, if you go to Krile's study you'll see artworks, including a Garuda. Yes it's the official art over the years, but why all in one room? When bringing this up in the forums I was told that it's a nothing burger. Jokes on them!
watching the video made me think if pictomancer can have abilities that can be inspired by the job roles in a party, as in, use inspire on a melee dps and u can use a certain ability or target a tank and give the whole party a 10% damage reduction for x seconds, that would be pretty neat.
Regarding Viper: a channel called Shadiversity looked at the viable of the weapon types in the Monster Hunter series. Viper, notably, has weapons that succeed in many of the ways those might. The dual swords are the perfect shape and size to provide lots of shallow cuts with the tips and long "draw cuts" to do more damage using the full length of the blade while having long enough to keep you at a comfortable distance and be suitably lethal if stabbed right in a soft spot. The dual sword, on the other hand, has many of the same advantages while adding even more length and powerful strikes to stop a beast in it's tracks. It's basically a monster hunting multitool, and I really hope that's the angle they're going for. Also, its a big stick! And you can never underestimate how useful a big stick is in a survival situation.
I was kind of hoping there would be a fill in about pictomancers elsewhere in the series. I know zidaine from ff9 so I’m already caught up on that style. Kinda wanted to get caught up on the other class.
IIRC The class originated with the character Relm in FFVI. She was essentially a blue mage variant. (Her grandfather Strago, another playable character, was a proper BLU.) Her ability allowed her to paint an image of an enemy. That image would then use one of that enemy's attacks and disappear. This made her useful in fights against strong enemies who's attacks she could use against them. But, it was weak against elemental enemies who often use attacks of their own element, and resist or outright be healed by them. Bravely Default II (which, despite it's name, has A LOT of FF influence in it) has one that was a debuffer. Different colors of paint would lower the enemy's Attack/Magic/Defense/MagicDef and so on. Other Pictomancers show up from time to time in the mobile games.
As someone who started playing in 2014, I think all the jobs are the same within the same roles, but just with a different flavour. Even you explained it with Pictomancer's "versatility" being only for the lore, and also there is no way to have a more versatile job than Red Mage.
With Pictomancer, it's pretty obvious different colours create different elements. And that painting enemies unleashes attacks. What is less clear is what painting the landscapes does. Also since Pictomancer can't raise, it has to either have such amazing damage to make up for it (while still falling short of Black Mage) or have such godlike utility that the lack of a raise becomes negligible.
I personally don't feel like Beast Master should have uts weapon assumed to be an axe just because the Bosjan NPCs use one. They also use a lot of 'default' animations and spell effects that are in the Paladin/Gladiator category and similar. It's kind of what the devs do when the enemies don't have a set special move type (like many Gladiator NPCs use Bloodstain, which is a more gladiatorial Circle of Scorn etc.)
In ffxi beastmasters were restricted to 1h axes, they could not use 2h axes, so I don't think warriors using axes is an overlap (though war was proficient with 1h and 2h axesin that game )
Pictomancer: so Relm Arrowny from Final Fantasy 6 US version. (Relm can naturally channel magic, which she does through her ability to Sketch monsters and bring them to life.) More or less.
Not really more reach in joined stance of the swords, since you can't have your arms fully extended, but more leverage, allowing for more powerful blows
I reckon viper might play a bit like monk, with its own style, or ninja maybe, where it uses certain skills to swap to different style in a continuous cycle
I think you're overselling Pictomancer. It is extremely unlikely that in a game that has combat encounters and the capabilities of individual jobs as heavily curated as FFXIV they would suddenly create a job that would allow even a fraction of that freedom you're describing.
Ludonarrative dissonance. They’re describing the potential lore applications instead of just the mechanics of it. It’s a job that theoretically does counter everything, but it doesn’t mean the WOL will use in such a way in gameplay. I personally subscribe to the theory that it’s actually taught moogle magic akin to Bards. Considering their adverse nature, it’d make sense they’d have such magic to protect themselves.
Not sure if this was already stated but the 6.55 cutscene revealed that krile learned pictomancy studying the archon relm. So im assuming stems from sharlyan some how?? Might be reading into it too much.
Lyon Helsos (Bozja) is a Beastmaster(BST) and uses single handed axe and in FFXI Beastmaster also main weapon is a single handed axe... can use Charm to use the monsters in map to attack each other or you can summon your own beasts with an item.
So the background story for beastmaster intrigues me, since we have seen it before in Shadowbringers. With it being LATE in the expansion where it unlocks, I wonder what other shards we will be dealing with, as the original one (beastmaster) in Shadowbringers was called here by Elidibus calling all the warriors of light from across the rift from surviving shards.
Whips as the BST's weapon makes me a bit uncomfortable. They're used to control beasts through pain and that doesn't seem to jive with the WoL. Same reason that I don't think we'll get Necromancer as a playable job. The WoL would rely on allies to make themselves more powerful, not unwilling subjects. I'm hoping the BST weapon is a one-handed axe like in FFXI, with a Bell or similar in the offhand for the "pet" skills.
The avatars of the Reaper, yeah? We make pacts with voidsent manifesting through the crystal, similar to a warlock in D&D. We're not controlling them, they aren't unwilling, and when Reapers use their abilities like Enshroud, the voidsent has the potential to permanently take over.@@DronesOverTheMoon
I am pumped as can be about Viper. I love twin blades and I almost screamed so loud I disturbed my neighbors when I saw him attach his blade at the pommel
4:54 --- Cant give you a time stamp but I think they mentioned where Pictomancer comes from when they say its unlocked in Gridania... something about this being also tied to Tural and that someone needs our help (as usual) ... and that the questline supposedly is significantly different from the usual job questline but they didnt specify this. 12:18 --- We could get 1handed axes... and a spare off-hand of our choosing? Like... you pick up this 1h axe and get to pick an offhand from a dropdown menu as soon as you equip the axe: a shield for defence, a focus thingy for access to range spells, and a dagger or something similar for additional offesive melee. No idea if this is possible... but Red Mage has an offhand in form of the focus thingy you attach to the sword for spellcasting... It could be something similar here?
Literally the last physical dps we had had a trancestate as well. I am hoping the Viper is at least mechanically challenging for high damage. I love duo swords into glaive weapons.
I would of preferred the picto as a limited job and the Beastmaster as a main imo but being we have already a mage as a limited then i guess it is what it is
Me, seeing title and thumbnail: New Jobs Breakdown! Me, having seen his reaction to the fanfest and all the new shit theyre adding: "Lore breakdown or mental breakdown?"
I have a feeling beastmaster might take aspects of ff11 of using tamed world mobs but excluding ranked hunts or pull from a set stock in their version of the masked carnival. I wouldn't saw no to the use of paired hand-axes
dude i need whips like fish need water and mamals need air. they cannot miss theis golden oppertunity to be 1 of the first mmos or even games to utilize whips
The beast master is more my style of gameplay, I want to tame big lion monsters to fight for me. Dungeons will be a lot better with beastmasters so its not as lonely
I hope it’s a brand new or newish discipline. It is clearly creation magic. Maybe it could be a gift left over from Hydaelyn when she possessed krile throughout Endwalker. Sadly, I do not foresee any actual creativity in-game for this job. I mean the job can create anything it can imagine and it’s still going around casting elemental spells identical or near identical to the other classes. That tells me everything I need to know on that front. I definitively want a class with a whip but I’d be disappointed for it to be Beastmaster. I would prefer it to be reserved for 8.0s phys ranged class. I don’t want to have to whip my own creatures.
I was shocked they did pictomancer. It just seems like it's gameplay will be too similar to summoner. Im sure itll be really fun but i wasnt a fan of the animations and the "squicky" sounds in its job trailer lol. Perhaps Beastmaster will use one handed axes?
