32:10 speaks to me as a sugar/carb addict. The best comment I learned from Dr. Cywes was that "addicts don't get cheat days". No excuses, rationalizing, no minimizing, etc. I've since used that phrase to well-intentioned dessert pushers. It stops them cold every time, and they in turn respect my commitment. Four years in, down 76 lbs and maintaining, 67 years old.
So close to 100k subscribers!! I’ve been here since the beginning and you changed my life. The reason I didn’t go through with surgery and fixed it myself!
Dr. Cywes is THE doctor who put this all in perspective for me. Carb addiction is a real thing. I'd never have understood that if it wasn't for him. I am beyond blessed that he's my actual doctor.
The one thing I’ve noticed while eating low carb is that when I am I don’t crave sweets but if I ever cheat I notice I don’t want to stop because I crave it so bad! So, the best thing I’ve found is to never cheat!
I keep hearing people say they tried keto and it didn't work even though they say they lost weight. You can't try keto. You have to permanently change how you eat. Just like you can't treat alcoholism by not drinking for a couple months and then try to drink moderately.
I regret so much not being able to quit carbs when I was 12 and tried Atkins diet. I lost about 10 to 20 kg twice or three times and got it back. Last year being 35yo I followed a ketogenic diet for real and lost 22kg. I have IBS still and other health problems but the GI issues bother me much less than before. Still too much abdominal pain and testing other meds for IBS-C, but the keto is the best diet I ever did. Tried SCD (specific carbohydrates diet), low FODMAPs and counting calories (always hungry and yoyo weight)
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I went to a diabetic education class. The entire class was all about reading food labels and figuring out how many carbs you are about to eat, and then use a specific formula to figure out how much insulin you have to inject before you eat. I remember sitting there thinking what bull this was! I even asked the teacher why not just not eat the carbs.. she just looked at me like I had two heads!! This was before I ever heard of the Carnivore diet! Now they claim I am Type 1 (I was 67 when they diagnosed me - I’m not sure that I am true type 1) I’m 69 now and following the Carnivore diet and now I can sometimes go a day or two without taking insulin! I do wear a continuous glucose monitor!
hey Dr Cywes. Great interview. Love the insight! You asked me in our video visit what I do for fun.. and I never did answer the question as I think I got side-tracked. When I looked at your Real Food Eating Plan, I saw the part that says 'Do FUN Activities Everyday' Since then, I started painting. It's wonderful. Just want to say Thank you. 🙏
@@robertcywes2966 Please do! Our lives are so demanding and we honestly don't realize the need to unwind and enjoy some time doing fun things. So sad. We need the reminder.
Thanks, you for this conversation. I have long known that a huge part of my addiction was connected to my emotional state and dealing with how I feel is all a part of my health regimen. Just a reminder on how everything is connected. Also quit drinking 2 months ago for health, weight loss, etc. I've been on and off keto and carnivore for several years, but the discipline was not there. I know it's a lifestyle, but I let my emotions control me. Now I feel more in control and ready to live this lifestyle for the rest of my life. Side note: I know of at least 4 people who did Gastric By-pass...all lost the weight, but didn't change their relationship with food, or examine why they got fat, or emotional health and ALL eventually gained the weight back within 2 years.
I had gastric bypass 6.5 years ago and lost all of my excess weight, and have kept it off ever since. Currently I have low Normal BMI. I know a number of people that have had success more than 5 years post-GB.
Very informative!!!! You are the master of analogies! I love it and they make hard concepts easier to understand. Funny, too 😂 Thank you so much for what you are doing!
Thank you Robert for helping people and being so honest and real. World needs more peaple like you. Keep up the good work to inspire more peaple to get better. 👍🏻❤
I also call it processed food addiction. Carbs like celery sticks are not really addictive while some processed meats, like salami and sugar-laden and starch-infused sausages, are not really meats.
That is so true. If I don’t feel like eating a burger and some steamed broccoli, I don’t need to eat. On the other hand, I can always manage to eat salami!
Thank you, for helping me to get back on track. I have been slowly going back to my emotional eating habits, and needed this to renew my healthy life long goals.
The carb issue is real & hard to confront esp given our 'microwave' culture & we need the help from functional practitioners. But, must say I never cease to be astounded and saddened that we'd rather listen to the 'gurus' for advice to our inner selves rather than simply opening The Good 📖 Book & "hearing" Jesus, the source of Truth given milleniums ago, from which all such steal to make their million$. Time & again, confirming the very Word! "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding" Prov 9:10
My carb addiction was a consequence of refeeding after low-calorie dieting in childhood, not the initial cause of weight gain. I wish some doctor or researcher would look into people like me and my cousin's grandkid. A family of thin people, eating identically, and one kid gets fat almost overnight0. Why? No one seems to care. For me, it's too late to fret about the answer, and all I can do is stay off carbs now to stay a normal size and lift weights to make that "slightly overweight" weight mean 23 percent body fat. But for my little cousin, I feel awful for him. Doctors are yelling at him to eat less, without looking at the reality that he eats FINE. He's seven. Doctors are so damned abusive in this way because they have that insane "calories in/out" lie rattling around in their skulls and can't even ask an interested question. WHY is that kid fat? Their approach is going to give him lifelong eating disorders. Where's the scientific curiosity about the root cause of obesity in such cases? Nowhere in the medical industry, it seems.
May I suggest you start off all your interviews by asking your guests to offer a brief bio? I had to stop this video and look up this gentleman. Easy enough to do with google, but better if the guest has that opportunity. Thank you. This is going to be one of your most profoundly informative videos.
That surgery almost killed me!! Totally reversed in 2013....best thingi EVER did!! Carnivore is the way!! SW 325 CW 145 and been this weight for 5 years!
I finally came to this realization on my own about 4 months ago - instead of booze - it’s processed junk food carbs (average American Diet is what we call it in the States)- I can’t have them. I eat the whole box of snacks or the whole pizza … etc.
I missed 25 minutes, but this topic is what I’m working on. I have C-PTSD, binge eating disorder, and was taught to binge eat. When I binge I never get full. I am carbohydrate addict. I don’t know where to find the right help in my area.
I give you so much credit for identifying your issues. That’s where to begin. Read all about these issues - research what you need to do-and decide what approach you need. Ask questions and explore what your next step should be.
@@ronasilverstein319 I have been exploring and researching but not finding the connection or voice for me in my area. I’m continuing searching and learning, but have not broke my addiction.
I would definitely adopt Keto or carnivore in the short-term. After I reach a more stable weight, I would then do more of Cycles. During the Spring and Summer, I would probably eat more vegetable and fruit. Fall and winter I'll eat more fat and protein. I think that's pretty close to how our ancestors lived. I would only eat fruit and vegetable within season.
For me, fear is my motivator, plus, now that I feel great(I know what that feels like now),I never want to feel sickly again. I felt as if I was in the beginning of my end. So, fear helps!
I started the carnivore diet out of desperation 3 months ago and have had results that I never though would be possible, but I've always wondered how long I should do it. This MD explains it very well.
there's many Doctors who are carnivore for more than 2 years. look into Dr. Baker, Dr. Chaffee, Dr. Judy Cho. So far I've been for 7 months now. But I agree with him about spiking the insulin every now and then it was a conversation I had with my wife.
@@stephencarbajal5657 Insulin spikes every time you eat anything. If it is just meat it will be brief and healthy. The idea we need carbs to keep the body able to produce insulin is B.S. and will only take you back down the slippery slope of carb addiction. Giving smoker a smoke to get them off cigs does not work.
@@murraypooley9199 yup 100% but the spike isn't as long or high as it would be if you consumed a high glycimic carb, fructose or sugar. And yes meat based way of living is definitely a lifestyle.
Emotional eating. Bingo!! After 25 years keto and 3 mos carnivore, I have to say on carnivore my desire to cheat is almost non existant compared to keto. Also easily cut way back on dairy and eliminated all sweeteners which long have been goals of mine. Biggest thing is my crazy morning gluconeogenesis is way down. Triglycerides and uric acid down. Now a true hyper responder. I believe is because I eat less fat on carnivore. My chylomicrons now empty before my liver gets them. Put some thought into my last sentence.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. What do you do for fun? Great question. Provided invaluable feedback to my lack of coping mechanisms other than carbage.
Motivation is the key to stopping doing things that are unhealthy. My dad tried to quit smoking many tines and failed. When the doc said he would be dead from emphysema in 2 years, he quit cold turkey.

Well said. I am living proof of changing eating habits without registering to and diet cult would works. I have my best time of my life regarding dealing with my 26 years diabetes. I have lost 50 lbs since November 2021. And stopped talking bunch of meds. I have done many things the main key was dealing with my carb addiction.
Children that got thugs , the ones that that didn't smoke stuff, drank stuff , if they didn't drink stuff , the grew stuff , like with food , it was for protection, I ran , she ate , keep thugs away from little kids, 💝
I was able to kick my addiction because I learned that my subconscious mind was triggering it, and I was able to train my subconscious mind. It was a program I found online.
It is so enlightening to hear a knowledgeable individual speak to our systems in the USA. Our government could care less about it's citizens. It is all about money. A bunch of idiots trying to tell us how to eat and live. Done with listening to the government and medical field try to bamboozle me.
2003 gastric bypass. It a tool ! I only lost 60% . I was 280-180 then I never needed that as soon as I got white, wheat, surgery, dairy out of my life I got down to 135, since now I had gain to 167-I did keto that help, I never ate full carbs back but I ate apples. Veggies never ate fat or meat. Now I am eating meat carnivore lost weight got down to 145. But I still drink coffee I am at a stand still, I miss some veggies I use to drink a celery juice that i juice and it help me move my bowls now I never go. I use to drink apple cider shot. I need my blood wk. done and my Bp is better on this way of eating
Prescribing pills reinforces peoples belief they can take a easy way. The problem is most people are mentally weak. What would the young men that were delivered to the beaches in world War two think about today's weak society?.I often wonder. Also, in my opinion a "bridge" should be temporary, not lifelong.
I figured, that if you first check your glucose, eat a measured amount of a carb, wait an hour to check your glucose level. Then again after 2 hours. That will tell you how high and for how long it stays high. Before, mine would shoot up above 180 and stay a while. Lately, after eating, it may go up to 140ish and goes away pretty quick. I suppose it takes less insulin to put glucose into my cells. Plus my cells actually have the space to let them in. At least that's how I see it in my own mind lol.
36:10 Shares a live changing, touching experience about how he has helped bring love into peoples home. Dude with the glasses then dismisses what he said by immediately talking about addicts and how they can’t self affirm. FFS That guy needs to learn the basics of listening. Acknowledge what someone has said. Pause for a second. Enquire further about what it means to the person, before going off on your own tangent for 5 minutes.
The main reason keto doesn't work for most people is simply that they have never heard of it or they can't be convinced to try it. When you try it the next obstacle is your fear of fat. For most people once they're high-fat keto they're home free. There's only a small percentage that have to deal with emotional management. In my opinion.
Not a good answer on a drug, don't know what it does, but it helps. :/. Like Tylenol, don't know what it does, but it helps and has also killed a lot of people.
Stop. Salting. When you stop salting you find that your taste preferences for fat vs protein changes on a daily basis based upon the bodies needs in that moment. If you chronically eat too much fat even on a zero carb diet it will start to cause insulin resistance via intramyocellular lipid deposition. If you chronically eat too much protein it will strain your kidneys and liver due to chronically high insulin/ammonia levels. Some days I eat more fat other days I eat more protein but the ability to figure that level out accurately is only available to you when you cut out the salt which makes everything hyper palatable. My blood glucose levels continually get lower and lower while my body and mind feel better and better. No salt carnivore diet 2+ years.
We moved to a low fat high carb diet and seen an increase in diabetes, heart disease, and obesity... and still blame fats and meat for it. My wife does this as she's moving to a mostly a high carb plant based diet.
