Adelaide is on-track to be the world's second National Park City.
Across South Australia’s capital city of Adelaide, people are taking action every day to make the city greener, their lives more sustainable, and promote connection with nature.
Watch the above documentary to hear from the organisation Green Adelaide who is leading Adelaide’s push to become a National Park City, as well as a range of green leaders, from individuals to community groups, businesses to NGOs and government, to find out what’s happening that makes Adelaide an ideal National Park City.

Background
A National Park City is a shared vision and journey for a better life. Everyone in a National Park City is able to benefit and contribute everyday.
National Park City Week marks the second anniversary of the launch of the Universal Charter for National Park Cities and the launch of the London National Park City.
Green Adelaide is a South Australian Government supported board to help manage the urban densification and climate change impacts on metropolitan Adelaide. Green Adelaide is working to create a cooler, greener, wilder and climate-resilient city by partnering, funding and supporting aligned organisations and communities, as well as delivering on-ground iconic projects to establish Adelaide as Australia’s first and the world’s second National Park City.

This promotional project is heartening and a great start to this inclusive project to benefit all who live here, and those who visit. Being aware is the first step, the incremental daily changes will build into a critical mass "in the sustainably-friendly direction".

I have been living overseas for many years, but hope to return to Adelaide in the next five to ten years. I am an avid gardener, and have been since a young child. I was always heartbroken when the local council would tear down the gums trees we had cared for, along the footpath, every 5-10 years. Just as they were starting to attract the native wildlife, the council tore them down, stating tall trees were not allowed, due to power lines above. Never seemed to be an issue in wealthier suburbs, lined by non-natives, providing a shady, green environment, in the Summer. Power lines were not an issue. Shady streets still seem to be for the privileged.

Hi Adam, we hope you’re staying safe overseas. Fingers crossed that when you return Adelaide will be the next National Park City! We have heard the concern of South Australians, like yourself, who value our natural environment and are committed to improving it for plants, animals, and people. Let's work together to create a cooler, greener and wilder metropolitan Adelaide! Show your support for Adelaide to become a National Park City by signing the proposed Charter: www.adelaidenationalparkcity.org/.

Would love to see Adelaide's tree cover afforded protections akin to that of a national park. This could be in the form of tree cover and climate livability targets for councils and developers

What's going to happy with the green lands along Main North Rd now that the Council has voted to revoke its current usage and turn it into a business strip?

Hi Sue, thanks for getting in touch. It seems like you’re referring to the proposed Community Land Revocation by the City of Playford. We understand that the council is proposing to revoke the status of this land to allow for the creation of a new gateway corridor into Elizabeth but we are not involved in this process. Following community consultation, the council is now required to seek approval from the Minister for Planning and Local Government. If you have questions, we suggest getting in touch with the council via email publicconsultation@playford.sa.gov.au or phone 8256 0333.
