it's not an issue of POOR concentration, it's an issue of mismanaging attention. how do even experts get this wrong? a lot of people ADHD, when they find something they truly truly enjoy, can be concentrated on that thing for hours on end. it's not an "attention deficit", it's an "attention imbalance". and no, there is no cure. you want people to just be the same boring box thinkers as everyone else? ADHD has its problems yes, but for crying out loud maybe SHINE A LIGHT on the positives as well

I cried twice during this video. I'm not yet diagnosed with adhd, but i'm in the middle of it and my psychiatrist said there's a chance, and i keep relating to most of the things i see about adhd online. It's really hard for me to do homework or any boring task, like showering or going to bed, even sometimes things i enjoy like playing videogames are difficult for me to initiate. My mom says i'm lazy and using adhd as an excuse. I know i'm not lazy but it still hurts me. I'm so impatient to get officially diagnosed so that i can be taken seriously and maybe even be medicated.

It doesn't sound like ADHD but more of hormonal or autoimmune disorders. I'm a woman over 40 years old and I have a systematic lupus and even basic activities are a burden for me as they exhaust me severely. Call on Jesus Christ to help you figure this out. He helped when I asked Him (after 16 years of being blamed and blaming myself for the lack of energy, extra weight, sleepiness). Out of the blue nurse practitioner noticed my exhausted look and sent me to be tested for lupus. All my standards blood results were coming back normal for years! It's a miracle itself as before no one ever noticed anything wrong about me. Jesus still does miracles. Give Him a try.

The more you read up on it, the more confidence you will gain about whether you have it or not. Either way, you are not a bad or lazy person!

If a person has a physical problem with an organ, then people are often very sympathetic towards them. For example, if you have bad eyes, which causes blindness , bad ears, which causes deafness, or bad lungs, which cause asthma, people will not blame you for it. They will say that you didn't choose to have a bad organ. However, your brain is also an organ and it controls your ability to think, your personality, and your feelings. So if you have a hard time thinking or there is something wrong with your personality, then obviously there is something wrong with your brain. So if a person has a problem with their brain they deserve the same sympathy as a problem with any other organ like your eyes, ears, or lungs, but people don't see it that way. I think the reason for the lack of sympathy is because people think that if a problem is mental, then a person should be able to control it since we have free will. However, if you think about it, we don't have as much control over our thoughts as we think. For example, could you make yourself enjoy the smell of raw sewage or the feeling of stubbing your toe? If there is a food that you dislike, you could still make yourself eat it, but could you make yourself like it? If you find someone unattractive, could you just decide to be attracted to that person? If you are gay, could you just decide to be attracted to the opposite sex and if you straight could you just decide to be attracted to the same sex? If you are depressed, could you just decide to be happy? If you are nervous before taking a test, could just decide to not be nervous? If someone tells you not to think about elephants, wouldn't you think about elephants for at least a split second? If you have a learning problem could you just decide to increase your intelligence a thousand fold, so that your are the smartest person who ever existed? It is true that we make decisions. For example, I decide to eat an apply because I like apples and hate pears. However, we decide to do something based on what we want and like and since we don't really control what we like, then we are not as in control of our decisions as we think we are. So, if a person has a mental problem, please don't think that it is something they choose to have.

Life is hard with ADD. It can affect every part of your life, private and job life. There is depression aswell quite often and other problems like anxiety and lonliness. I wish these people all the best and a good way to stand this difficult system and society.

Wow, I’ve started my new job, and you described exactly how I feel, I feel like this at everyone tbf, no one understands me or adhd and I don’t fit in and I get depressed, I always tell them before hand and they say they don’t discriminate but they always do, I either get treated like a retard or like I don’t have a mental disability, never in between which would have the most positive impact on me, everyone knows what adhd is but don’t know a single thing except hyper so yes we definitely need to raise awareness

I just cried instantaneously watching the first minutes of this video. It gets so lonely when nobody understands you because you hardly understand yourself. All this selfpressure and anxiety is so overwhelming that I started to conclude not being suitable to live a life worth living

Hello Vinh, you don't have to be alone. Please seek professional counseling which can help you process what you are feeling and put it in proper perspective. You are by no means alone.

It is a great way to spread more information about ADHD. I could disagree also with just a description of not being able to pay attention, but along the video there is plenty of focus on many of the other dysfunctional issues that ADHD affects. It is a great way to start forums for discussion about what defines better a disorder like ADHD, ADHD awareness is always welcome, and ADHD Europe made an amazing job. Thanks for this.

This isn’t shining a light on #ADHD for me. There are some nice bits in it but the prof starting off saying it’s about poor concentration is wrong- It’s the inability to switch attention to the ‘right’ thing and doesn’t even mention hyperfocus which is important in this context. It's also arguable that it’s a disorder. Some would say that it’s a difference that needs to be accepted and supported and not cured like a disease with symptoms. Sure there are meds and strategies and support that help us to ‘fit in’ and be better people that’s up to the individual. Can't get my head around the second prof says that ‘everyone is looking for a cure’. #ADHD cannot be cured its part of our evolution, and one of the reasons we’re here today. We were the original poison berry eaters!!!

When you say sure there are meds strategies and support to help you 'fit in' that is so not true. You have no right to say that. Meds are there to help you focus better. You just assume the only reason parents who give there child meds are for them to fit in. That is not the case. Obviously you dont know how ADHD works so if I were you I would delete this comment entirely.

Lucy I could not agree more, I see ADHD as as hypersensitivity to ones environment; there is no disorder in this - and certainly no need for a 'cure'. It's not a disease, it's an expression of an individuals development in certain (often problematic) environments. Being hypersensitive has important evolutionary benefits and needs to be nurtured/understood - not branded as a deficiency and then medicated to regulate their experience and 'fit in'. I'm reading Scattered Minds by Gabor Mate at the moment - now this book really shines a light on ADHD.

unfortunately the entire channel seems to be focused on the negatives. as if it's smth to be ashamed about and as if it's smth that needs to be "fixed". talk about the insanely important people of history who likely had ADHD like Van Gogh, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein, or Andrew Carnegie? or the famous people right now with ADHD like Emma Watson, Johnny Depp, Michael Phelps, or political strategist James Carville? sure you say we should focus more on the positives, but that's towards the end, when a majority of people will have either clicked away or made up their mind already.

I don't know if it's ADHD or not, I talked to my father who is a doctor about some symptoms I started to have in the early two years, I can't read anything like a book or even a paper of literature.. I can't tidy my room and thinking about chores just overwhelms me, even if I try to do some housework it takes really long. People always tell me I'm so slow.. On the emotional side I'm much more socially isolated, I used to feel like I can't relate to people since childhood but now I always feel like I want to be left alone, also I'm irritable sometimes.. I really can't figure this out, everyone tells me you seem fine and my father refused to take me to a psychiatrist, he talked to one and he gave me brain supplements and a herbal stress relief.. I'm 19..I have a one month exchange program next week and I'm afraid I'll screw it up

Maybe you should ask your Dad if he can do some tests with you so if you do have ADHD, he can give you a proper diagnosis, and maybe even another doctor if you have another doctor for some conformation.

I'm 42 years old who went through a massacare and a civil war as a 11 years old child, though a lot of discrimination and dispair and the only solution that I know of that actually works is the relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. No, you don't have to go to the church or learn any prayers. All you have to do is call on His name and let Him carry your burdens. I lost my mother at 24 years old and now lost my older brother to a heart attack a year ago. My husband just finished having a tumor removal surgery, I've been diagnosed with lupus and my kid struggles with hyperactivity. Only in Christ I'm able to carry on. And He is a wonderful friend. He guides to the right people in the right time in the right place. I'm now considering a CBD oil for hyperactivity as I've heard that people been having good experiences with it.

Good video but sorry i don't want to be 'cured' because there isn't really anything wrong with me, i would like to be understood and where appropriate accommodations where society is designed for other brain types. So yes meds might help make life easier for me but i don't need 'cureing' and talking about cureing adhd will only increase the stigma.
