I am in my 40's and recently diagnosed with ADHD. Only just understanding how much of my life might have been different if I got an earlier diagnosis. I've disappointed friends and family by failing to remember important stuff or being late for things constantly. Some relationships can never be repaired. The shame and frustration of feeling depressed, that I'm stupid or just a horrible person has been a constant companion. I've been educating myself about this condition and for the first time in a long long time I can give myself a break and be kinder to myself. These videos really help! Thank you ❤

They forgot to add impulsivity. I tend to have emotional outbursts a lot and it affected my love life and my relation to friends. I lost a lot of friends throughout my life, I feel like I can't keep a friendship and I know most of the times I am the issue. Even if I know I have an issue, if I work on myself I can change for maybe a couple of days or weeks and then I get emotional outbursts again... I was tested to ADHD by a doctor back when I was a kid and the test results came back negative, that's why I never tested again but I definetly will after watching this video. Thank you!

Having adhd while also being a perfectionist is the hardest thing I’ve had to live with. Everything has to be a certain way for me to thrive, and instead of just keep trying until i get that perfection, i procrastinate and get distracted by the smallest of things. Failed one of the biggest career opportunities in my life, because i couldn’t stop getting distracted. Basically the lady who interviewed me had a mustache, and i couldn’t help but to keep staring at the mustache. I knew i didn’t get the job the minute i heard “ you know it’s not nice to stare Mr Walden?”. It was at that moment i realized i had a serious issue. I didn’t hear anything she asked me, i couldn’t help but focus on her stache.

I'm in the same boat. I suggest learning more about it and watching more RU-vid videos about ADHD so you can be comfortable understanding how your brain works and know what you can do to help live the life you want. the RU-vidr How to ADHD was helpful, and I enjoyed some of her videos. After watching a few, the algorithm also starts suggesting some good videos. Learn about it and reassure or dismiss your assumptions with a mental health expert. That is my next step as I want to clarify things with someone as I have a lot of what ifs and how do I know kind of questions that videos can't really help with anymore.
@deechonada

i got diagnosed last week and I'm having to take some days off because its all too overwhelming. The psychologist that diagnosed me stopped me halfway through the assessment to tell me I definitely have it, but for formality we'll continue, because of things like: as she was asking a question about me tending to look out the window i was doing just that, as she was asking a question about fidgeting i was swinging in my chair and fiddling with God knows what on my desk. She began looking at me like a lost child and i started to realise how unaware i was of my own condition. She felt bad that it took me this much to go wrong in my life for me to finally take action The straw that broke the camels back that basically forced me to see if i have adhd was that i literally cannot drive safely. I've been learning to drive for half a year and I'm still doing junctions because i either wing it or get choice paralysis on whether or not its safe to go. After hearing my instructor say the same thing 6 weeks in a row i had enough. The straw before that is a situation so potentially influential to the rest of my life and so obviously ADHD that i feel embarrassed to say, and even then i dismissed the possibility. Did the diagnosis turns out everything ive ever done in childhood and early adulthood (im 22) has been linked to a severe case of combined ADHD. I thought i had it as a joke but when i actually started researching it in depth it didn't become funny anymore. For my whole life id fractured things that made my life so hard into different reasons, not realising it was all due to ADHD
@furiousdestroyah9999
@furiousdestroyah9999 Год назад
I hate to sound like a broken record, but same, even the age 😂. Didn't bother picking up driving because I knew way ahead that choice paralysis would absolutely kick my ass every time I attempted, among other things (I doubt depression and driving is a good combination). Hopefully it gets better for us weird folk

Age 34, diagnosed at 13. Impulsiveness has been my biggest shortcoming, followed by forgetfulness. I've moved across the country on a moments notice 6 times. There are times when I'm looking right through the person speaking to me... my mind is in another place. Depression and anxiety started in my early 20's. While I do feel "held back" regularly - there are some really good days in my life where everything feels in sync. It makes the rest of life worth living. Peace to you.

My eyes are tearing up watching, learning and reading everyone’s experiences. This is me, my entire life explained in 4 letters. My daughter brought it to me a few weeks ago after her going to the docs. When she gave me the test I laughed at the “this is just a day in the life” to which she replied Exactly! That’s why I’m showing you 😂 I feel so much relief and joy at the “simple diagnosis” rather than me think alllllllsorts is wrong with me. I’m 46 and definitely going to see the doctor. Watching reels on ADHD driving and some are so funnily (and scarily) like me. I think I’m a good driver the reality is far different lol

I'm only thinking of going to a therapist to get properly diagnosed. Actually, there is a huge fear inside me of "making that up" even if it's obviously not. Some part of me says that if you know the name of what you're going through then there is no point to see a therapist. This part of me is so scared of being called "a liar" or something. I don't understand how I should even start a dialogue with a therapist. This whole thing of saying it right away, on the doorsteps sounds so... Ridiculous? At least, in my head. "Hi, I might have an ADHD". Bruh... So that might be the main struggle. Just to let myself suggest out loud that I might have an ADHD.

Life's a lot easier, but it's still a journey. I urge people who may think they have ADHD to get tested if they can, though I realize it can be tough and expensive. I tried in the UK a few times; the doctors at the GP weren't that bothered. However, after moving to Australia, I received excellent, affordable help."

ADHD can also turn into depression and anxiety. This happened to me cuz today in therapy I found out I have a lot of doubt in myself. I’ve always known that I have ADHD but now at 22 I think it’s time to get properly diagnosed, it really consumes you and relationships, work everything. I can’t sleep because of my thoughts, I can’t seem to get anything done, I’m always late, I lose my wallet, passport, phone etc. all the time, I forget appointments and important dates, I’m so unorganised and it is so frustrating, I always leave stuff half done and I’m overly emotional about everything. I mean it made me moderately good at guitar, piano, flute, making digital music, writing, painting, crafting, knitting, cooking, editing, photography, videography, drawing, growing plants, designing but I can’t focus on one skill and none of them are perfected and I can’t even imagine myself doing only one thing at a time. And that will be the only public rant I’ll ever post hopefully. 😂

No. There is no "natural remedy" that will work with ADHD, though you will have people trying to get your money who will say otherwise. There ARE strategies you can use to reduce symptoms that do not involve medication, but if I'm being honest, that's like playing on hard mode. There are a million websites that will give you helpful tips and action plans, but it's going to be stuff like: meditate, use a dayplanner, follow routines, get sleep, exercise... etc. My best advice would be to talk with your personal doctor/neurologist who will have suggestions based on your symptoms. They might suggest medication. Know that you can say you're uncomfortable with that, and they will work with you to find the best solutions. However, if things aren't improving with just those strategies mentioned earlier, I would try a medication. It might take a few times to see what works best with your brain, but once you're past that things should settle.

I'm taking Coffea Cruda. It's a homeopathic medicine for relieving sleeplessness when you have mental hyperactivity. It has been very helpful. I also listen to relaxing music while I sleep sometimes.

@@NihilistBug You can take 5 pellets three times a day until your symptoms are relieved. They dissolve under the tongue.

There’s elements of OCD in this condition….

Apparently, they are frequently co-occurring, though they affect different genes and do different things to the brain. I understand that the symptoms overlap but for opposing reasons. Also, if you have ADHD, you're more likely to have someone with OCD in your family. Hooray, genetics!

Funny how the video gets into others perception of you as lazy ,lacking motivation and numerous other judgemental ideas. I have lost so many jobs and doubt my ability to do more complex work because of poor comprehension and excessive time needed to complete tasks. I.remember I believe Depression and Anxiety are a direct result of not being able to reach the goals that we want for ourselves.
