I knew I wasn't crazy, everyone has called me crazy ever since my son was diagnosed with NF1 at birth. Even a developmental doctor has told me that I am over reacting and over thinking my son condition. I feel like he is on the spectrum and possibly have ADHD. My son is 6 years old and has yet to be tested or evaluated for either of the disorders and I don't even know where to go. I need help I have been trying to get him evaluated especially for school, the teacher doesn't understand why my son is the way he is and I am constantly getting letters sent home about some of his behaviors. It's really exhausting having to repeat myself to her.

My grandson is 3 with NF1 and my highly intelligent daughter will not accept his ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism. Do you have any talks that would help a parent accept!

They tried to label me with all of these monikers when I was a child. I was consistently placed in remedial classes because of my NF. I dropped out of high school at grade 10 cause my parents did not care, nor did the education system. When I finally went to University at 20 - I graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting with honors, a full semester ahead of my normal peers. I would have went to law school, but I did not have any financial supports and I was tapped out on student loans. Luckily, I got my condition through a genetic mutation and not through unintelligent parents who had NF, who thought that it would be wise to procreate. Unless your daughter is one of these terrible humans (sorry, but you have to be horrible individual to want to pass this condition on to someone you love), I would not jump quickly into assuming your grandson has these issues. The challenges is - no one has ever pulled apart the occurrences of these comorbidities with respect to the people who got NF from a genetic mutation and the people who for it from their idiotic parents. Having dated a girl who had 4 generations of NF in her family, you could tell with each subsequent generation, the manifestation of these comorbidities got exponentially worse. As well, IQ got lower with each subsequent generation. It is the same thing that occurs with inbreeding. Recessive traits become dominate. Just some food for thought.
