Good afternoon Howard, I thought I would drop you a comment and let you know that I have successfully passed my ADI part 2 driving test today with 0 minors. I have been watching your videos, over and over again. I have found them extremley interesting and infomative. I have had very little input from my ordit register instructor. (ie 4 sessions)The majority of my training has been self tort with a huge help from yourself so I would just like to say thank you for you help and support. your help has been invaluable. many thanks.

Well done! I know my response is a little late now and you probably are a driving instructor anyway but congratulations anyway on passing part 2. I hope you passed part three and are teaching people to drive by now

excellent video. I passed my part 2 test the other day :) 3 faults. 1 for rubbish parallel park. 2 for late indicating when leaving motorway. was told I should start indicating as soon as I pass first countdown marker or do it atleast before the 3rd marker vanishes.

Is it necessary to drop into 3rd gear on a 60mph road when accelerating out of a corner? Would that be marked down for uneconomical driving?

Hi Howard. Great vid as usual. I noticed you crossing your hands when doing your reverse manoevre. What is your take on that? thanks Rob
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 4 года назад
The DVSA are fine with either pull push or rotational steering methods as per DT1. As long as you are in full control and the steering is accurate and smooth. Best practice for driving is pull push for sure but slow manoeuvring many find it more effective to use rotational, ie crossing of hands.
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 8 лет назад
Good point, DVSA say stay centre, but in my experience with SE, they have only marked a minor fault once. That was with a Police instructor who adopted a wide right position before a left bend. Up to but not over the line tends to be acceptable for Part 2, but I take your point. Thanks for making it.

@castletransport

When the road bends to the left or if you turn to the left, would you check your centre then left mirror? Because I would have thought checking centre right mirror wouldn't give you much view. I do check both when I turn corners, but it seems to make more sense to prioritise the left mirror if your turning right and right mirror when turning right (if that makes sense)
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 8 месяцев назад
We need to make effective use of mirrors and be aware and most importantly respond to what’s around us. Teach your learners that and try not to get hung up on a specific order. This is more ROTE learning when we need to encourage our pupils to think and make sound decisions.

I’ve a part 2 coming. I really want to know if it’s okay to use both feet on an automatic car? Will I be failed for that? I think my car is in better control when I use both my feet.
@How-2-drive

I’m not sure! I’ve always believed you should just use the right foot, unless slow manoeuvres.

you were crossing your hands during reversing, is that acceptable?
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive Месяц назад
Yes, of course rotational steering at low speeds is acceptable. It’s quicker and more efficient rather than pull push. The DVSA are not that regimental, as long as you’re in full control and the steering is smooth and accurate. Think more about the outcome than the method. 👍

I am going through a course just now on Advanced Driving. The thinh that I find hard is to go along a rural road at 60mph . You never know what could be round these corners, e.g Horses. Cyclists, tractors etc. They say travel at speed you can stop easily but I am not so sure.
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 5 лет назад
Yes you need to make safe progress and that you can judge the severity of an unknown bend by using limit point analysis. You must be able to stop well within the distance seen to be clear. Ask your trainer to demonstrate the use if IPSGA on rural roads and how they avoid brake / gear overlap and match the limit point when accelerating keeping stability through the turn.
@besafe5969
@besafe5969 5 лет назад
THANKS. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT GEARS SHOULD BE USE AT THE JUNCTIONS!
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 5 лет назад
Yes sure, we use a selective gear changes, so slow down and be prepared to stop, once the view (limit point) opens up and we can make our decision (stop or go), select the appropriate gear for the vehicle speed. That will be a rolling first if we can't see or can't go, or if clear maybe 2nd or 3rd depending on how open the junction is and our speed. We want a smooth gear change. One hazard, One gear. Does that help you out?

@How-2-drive

In my experience SE's will allow, but essential skills say stay centre of lane. If there is a white line, stay left as this will normally record a driver fault on Part 2

Sorry the big issue with these videos, it is very textbook based driving the conditions don't vary at all, how come on this type of road we never see a driver who is right up your tail and just wants you out of the way. Why does the commentary go quite. Let's have proper driving with different conditions.
@How-2-drive
@How-2-drive 5 лет назад
Narjit Mankoo ok I’ll go out in the rain next time and drive slowly so others can catch me up! I was making progress on rural roads as a demonstration of system, yes the test will include dual carriageway, city and possibly motorway.
