/ curtfitfi I bought some Stan Smith Vegans way back in September '22. I liked them. Then I saw these Stan Smith Lux's. Had to try them since they are all leather. Are these shoes still cool?
Loved this video--thank you! I just received the Lux (Men's 5.5) with a gray suede back and the Originals (Women's 6.5) in all white and have been comparing them for about 30 mins. Hands down, the Lux are more like the Stan Smith's I wore in college and loved. The Original feel bulkier in the toe box and squeak right out of the box. They even squeak as I put them on my feet! I would prefer the Lux without the Stan Smith logo on the side -- but since those don't exist, I will succumb to being a billboard! While both pairs were comfortable out of the box, no question that the Lux feel more plush to me. The leather, stitching and comfort are worth the upcharge IMO. I am keeping the Lux and will keep a watch out for an upcoming edition that has zero logos!
Very good review I must say, very comprehensive. I do have the whites Golden Goose at 470$ but the Stan Smith at 100$ really does the job too and less flashy or pretentious.
Awesome review, thank you! I was wondering how these stack up to the regular Stan Smith's. Side question, what kind of shirt are you wearing? Under Armour used to make a very similar looking shirt (I think they were called "threadborne"?) and they were incredibly comfortable. Sadly, they're no longer produced.
Glad I could help out and thanks for watching. The shirt I'm wearing is from an activewear company called Rhone. It's their Reign Tech Short Sleeve. Not sure if they make them anymore, but I really like the brand.
@@FitnessFinance4u It even convinced me to the point that I ordered the Lux shoes half an hour ago haha, receiving them somewhere this weekend, can't wait to try them on!
I would love to see a comparison of the Recon (aq0868 and cq3033) and Lux. They are actually very similar. And the white box of the recon version is really impressive.
Hello! Just came back to your video to say that I purchased the adidas stan smith lux with the black heal detail at the back and I loved them! But they also developed that little squeaky sound when I walk. If I'm being honest with you I like quiet a lot haha it's funny to me 😅
I found out how to get rid of the squeak. Just sprinkle in a little bit of foot powder before you wear them and viola! Some viewers had recommended that and it works!
hello, great video! The squicking sound comes from the upper rubbing against the other parts of the shoe, I would use Vaseline to stop the noise. just spread a little bit on the sides and then clean it immediately.
Hi there, it would be interesting to see a comparison of the Lux and the Recon version which is supposedly even more premium (specifically H06185) All the best
Thanks for watching. I checked out recons you were talking about and they've got a really thick midsole. I don't think they are as classic as the lux's. Although they do have a new "80's" Stan Smith shoe that looks pretty cool. www.adidas.com/us/stan-smith-80s-shoes/IF0202.html
Great job showing the difference between both. Btw, the $160 Lux version in Cloud White / Wonder White / Chalk White are not real leather, they are surprisingly made with Vegan & recycled materials.
Are the Luxs less bulky than the regular ones? Im a leaner guy with below average calves and try to avoid bigger/bulkier shoes. I believe I tried regular Stans on many years ago and felt they were a tad bulky/puffy
Latissimus65, I think the Lux’s are sleeker and less bulky than the Vegan ones. The good thing is you can always return them if you don’t like them. Thanks for watching!
Hi, great video. What about the "ventilation" in both models? Do you think the vegan one is more prone to smelly feet? Or more inadequate for the summer? Thanks!
Stitching connecting the upper to the sole is only around the toe on the regular smith, while the Lux smith has stitching around the entire shoe. Old school smith has stitching around the entire shoe, the tongue is different, & the heel stitch is a 2 stitch overlay rather than the 3 stitch on the new regular smith. The inner heal on my old smith is cracked & appears to be very thin vinyl. My old pair is ~1988-89. The Lux version is a nice upgrade.
The upper is stitched to the sole all around in the Lux model. The upper to sole stitching in the normal model is not through out and stops somewhere in the middle.
The Lux is a comeback of the originals and debatably not as good. To each his/her own. Some people are not into leather for their own beliefs, which is a choice. I think the Stan Smith should be what it always was. It is indeed frustrating to pay a premium for shoes that used to cost half that price. I regret not getting 10 pairs of these back in the day! The vegan style feels very cheap in my opinion. Nowhere near worth $100. Pardon the quick Overshare lol but for those in the know Sperry Topsider did the same thing years ago they used to have an awesome boat shoe, but then they canceled it and came back with a much cheaper leather, which is OK but nowhere near the original quality then out of nowhere they came out with. I think a $300 version of what was basically the original made in the USA then that didn’t seem to go so well so now they went back to the lesser quality.
Appreciate the info...and don't feel like you are "oversharing" when you go on about other experiences you've had with other shoe brands. Interesting stuff!
Thanks for detailed review to begin with.I have one of those recycled material plastic Stan Smiths (not genuine leather) and i wear them occasionally.Should i expect it to peel like PU shoes by time or it's not going to happen as they two are a different material.GY9394 is the product code and it's for womens.
Thanks for watching! My shoes haven’t shown any signs of peeling yet. I’ll do another review I’d they do. I’m not familiar with the GU9394s, so I can’t say.
CommandantNOVA, I really like the Lux's, but I don't have wide feet, so I can't really answer your question. You can always buy them and return them if they are too narrow.
Interesting. I got rid of the Lux's squeak by putting foot powder in them for about 2 weeks. It magically went away. Hoping the same goes for you with the vegan/primes!
FYI. Stan Smith was always made with 100% real leather as standard until a few years ago. Adidas then decided to jump on the over hyped 'sustainable / responsible' bandwagon and replaced their real leather Stan Smith with PRIMEGREEN Stand Smith, aka manmade plastic material!!! I have nothing against manmade shoes, but only as an OPTION for people who want them. But sadly, not only did Adidas actively preached the 'green' trend, it didn't give their loyal customers any other option; in my opinion, this move was extremely arrogant. What was even more off putting was charging the manmade version the same price as the original real leather version!! LOL, now ADIDAS brings back the original leather version and calls it LUX, this is so pretentious and would perhaps only fool those who are new to the brand. What Adidas should have done in the first place was to introduce the plastic version as a new 'GREEN' alternative. Also the name choice LUX is rather odd, it actually suggests that the Primagreen version which Adidas has been actively boasting is a step down.
Did you find that the tongue on the Lux shoes was quite “tall”? It seems like you really can’t use the top eyelets. I have exactly the same color way as your shoes. Very comfortable but the tongue is a bit odd to me bu then again, I’m older and perhaps this is a new style. Thanks for good review.
Robert, I agree, it is a bit “tall”. I’m not sure if it was like that when they were originally made. But, I’ve gotten used to it now and I don’t even notice anymore. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you liked my review.
Stan Smith iconic old school shoe I am 48 years old.but honestly I don't have a pair of Stan Smith but went I see people wear Stan Smith am amazed and speechless,I wish I could have one but I can't afford to buy a pair am just happy to see people wear a Stan Smith they so very iconic old fashioned shoes.thank you for the video and God bless po from Philippines 🙏♥️🤗 Palawan Puerto prinsesa Isla Fiesta Buffet restaurant dishwasher crew
AP -H, of the ones I've tested, I'd go with the Stan Smith Lux's (if you like leather). It has great style, it's comfortable, fully leather, and if you get it in "green", I think it's bad ass.
I have the non genuine leather one "green" and wondering how durable the non real leather is ? Can you share the experience with the material after one year of use
Do you have to put baby powder in the shoes everytime you wear it or jist once to stop the squeeky? Because omg how do ppl wear these with all that noise
Thanks for the review. It helped me to skip the basic Stan Smith. While you called the price-point of $100 an advantage of the primegreen Stan Smith, I think it actually is a downside. At $100 range there is already a decent selection of leather sneakers, so it's really hard to justify a synthetic shoe at this price (in my part of the world you can get a leather Veja, Gant, Jack&Jones, Lacoste, Selected Homme, to name the few). I mean I would understand the whole recycled polyester thing with the shoes, that were initially made with polyester (like running shoes for example). But substituting genuine leather with polyester, so that the shoes would wear out quicker and create even more waste - where is sustainability here?
The Lux version will prob be bette if someone has a wide foot, as leather stretches and mould more naturally, it will also crease nicer in terms of aesthetics. For the vegan version, if they really are made from recycle content, that would be great, but synthetic leather don't last as long as real ones and the biggest problem is they don't biodegrade so they create more waste.
I’ve worn stans now since 1985 , I have ten pairs at the mo and must have had at least 30 pairs over nearly 4 decades !🙄😂 They are in my eyes the best trainer ever made , they never age … any decade , any fashion they’ve always just fitted in ! The only shoe you’ll see in every city across the world ! 🤍💚 Adidas’s bell selling shoe of all time But just one thing … …. AH -DEE -DAS 😵 that’s how you say it not A-dee -das 🙄🇩🇪
The Lux has leather inside lining. Have 2 pairs since 3 months ago and... IT'S THE BEST SHOE (pricepoint) I ever had in the past 5 years or so. Legendary!
What do you mean you cant fault them for changing materials? They litterally went ''yeah we hiked up the price but as something new, we also made the shoes out of actual garbage. Enjoy!''
@@FitnessFinance4uthe famous comedian George Carwin said something interesting in his stand up. The planet is not going anywhere but we are. It's possible that this sustainability thing is just marketing.
Actually, they aren't bad. The green on the tongue is fading a little bit, but not the green on the heel tab. Would I buy them again? I'd probably go with the "lux's" which are on sale now and actually less expensive than the vegan ones. I do like having leather shoes.
hi have buy all stan smith lux, green, black, grey, burgundy, blue, total white, total cream and have 2 stan smith vegan, total white and blue. I use vegan shoes when I wear a tracksuit, or when I dress comfortably and loosely, while I use lux shoes every day for the office and outings in general. My lux also have a very annoying squeak but not always. The lux are more rigid, the general line is more defined and the sole is harder and less comfortable than the vegan ones. The vegan ones remain more swollen to the eye, have a less defined line, shorter and thicker laces, a more comfortable but less beautiful tongue. These are the differences I find, I much prefer the Lux but in general I have always loved the Stan Smiths.
Cheap synthetic materials are now being marketed as "vegan" at leather's price…… Meanwhile the "female version" of the basic model is full leather, only difference is that its sky blue in the coloured parts, but at basic model's price.
Green washing at it's best occurs in the sneaker space. Pay more for plastic shoes bc you are vegan...Pay more for plastic shoes bc they are recycleavle. .Pay more for leather shoes bc it is biodegradable and plastic isnt. No matter what they sell, they can spin it as economical friendly
The whole “vegan” stan smith is nonsense. As someone that doesn’t wear leather I’ve been buying the “adidas advantage base” trainer for the past 10 years. Made out of a cheap synthetic leather. That would cost tops €50 on eBay. Now the Stan smiths are made out of the same cheap crap synthetic leather but they’re charging €110 for them. Yet people are buying them because they think they’re saving the animals. Adidas - Shame on you
