I like your comment about Functionality and I completely agree. In my workshop I find that if something has a dedicated home, I have a tendency to make sure it finds it way back to its home after I use it, otherwise it ends up wherever I lay it down. I love shop organization projects and so that is what I am focusing on right now in my shop and will be uploading some of those projects to my channel soon.

Love the organizing! Will definitely be adding to my shop. I am fairly new to woodworking...real woodworking. My shop is small, but very cozy lol Its a prebuilt storage shed 12x20. I love spending as much time out here as possible! I have waited for YEARS to get my shop setup. Anyway...wanted to tell you it is encouraging to see other women enjoying woodworking!

@Sandra Powell, GF, you need to do a lot more videos! I love to watch creators create! This is amazing! Especially as another woman you inspire me. I have no such talents, but i will be sending this to the hubby to help inspire him to do a cleanout of our large kitchen junk drawer! That looks very useful - I also like to use scraps and not being too nerdy about precision in shop projects. Since my shop time is often limited as a hobbyist, some things have to get finished quickly in order to get finished at all. Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE seeing women doing "mans work"...consyruction, wood/metal work, etc. just as much as I LOVE seeing men doing "women's work"...cooking, baking, etc. We're all talented in different ways and no one fits in any particular box or frame. You do lovely work. You have a new fan.

Thanks Maria. My husband is our family Chef. When we have people over for dinner and they thank him, he always spreads the thanks around by pointing out who made the salad or brought the dessert...and then I say, "I built the kitchen". That is my contribution to all of our meals. LOL

Excellent, I've just stumpled upon your channel, I like your way of organising drawer. Then I was a child, I made similar system for the drawers of my desk, only using a thin plywood and a cardboard (because at the time I had very few tools, all of them were hand tools). Also I have to say that I like then women doing woodworking. I believe that there is no such thing as men or women-only crafts, like «knitting for women and woodworking for men». Such women as you, Darbin Orvar and so on are helping to destroy theese stereotypes. I'm russian and it's a pity that in russian youtube (I mean the channels on youtube runned by russian-speaking users) there are no women who doing woodworking. I wish you good luck and sorry for my english, I can easily read english and understand spoken english, but have not enough opportunites for training my speaking and writing skills.

Really good and easy to follow you could make a 1/2 or 1/3rd width tray to fit in that could slide from back to front or side to side so you could get to things underneath and this would give you more storage space, Rich.

As a senior I have built many drawers so here is some serior wisdom. 1. All screws come loose in normal use so if it moves use epoxy on the screws. 2. Nails (see screws) 3. When there is a metal option take it metal leg sets hold up better. But look for failure points metal will bend if you stress it. Reinforce any failure points. 5. Roll away tool boxes are great but they all come with cheap casters replace them and reinforce the bottom these bend & flex use 3/4 to 1" plywood minimum. This includes the real expensive ones 6. Reinforce anything that needs it before you put it in service, it so much easier to fix them when they are empty and before they get damaged. 7. Look at scrap wire racks, displays from retail stores some items are gems some are dogs. 8. Cheap kitchen cabinets make poor shop cabinets, see nails and screws. 9. Get a system to manage hardware, I like a diy sortimo system, but this should one of your first projects 10. Buying tool look at piece count the lower the cost per piece the better. Garage sales good, I find tools show up in the last two weeks of the month. Again the more you buy the more you save, bundle, buy bags, bulk pays, old power tools and hand tools are great deals look at under loved tools.

Looks great Sandra. In my shop I ended up doing something of a hybrid where I made interlocking slats (like yours) for some of my drawers..but I eventually switched to making boxes that tessellated into the drawer. I think the advantage to the box system is that I can take out an entire drawer of (for example) pocket hole screws and bring them to the work area, then bring them back when I'm done. I've found it cuts way down on the wasted time of running back and forth to the drawers. A friend of mine saw my system and designed his drawers to fit the plastic boxes found in (cheap) Harbor Freight tool cases. He was able to cover an entire drawer with 2 plastic parts cases for under $20, whereas if he bought the material to make boxes (or slats) it would have cost him about the same. Wish I could post a picture for you but..youtube.

+wxfield Great job coming up with a system that works perfectly for how you work. I always design for function -- which is why my shop is still not finished. I don't yet know how I want to use the other areas that I have not built out yet. I keep thinking at some point I'll see a need that is not satisfied by what I've already done and then I'll know what to do...it just hasn't happened yet. Any day now! LOL

Nice project, especially since it performs two functions - gives you more organization, and puts a lot of small scraps to good use. To bump up the floor of your small compartments, though, I'd recommend gluing the spacers to the bottom of the square block and just dropping it into place. That way you don't need to break the calk free if you want to move the spacer, and you won't leave calk residue on the bottom of the drawer.

Very nice work! But I realize, that you have serval tiny stuff such as pencils, washers, bolts, drills etc. in your drawer. Therefor use another suggestion from me: a flat drawer in a high drawer. The dividers on the left and right only half or 2/3 the hight. This will be the runningsurface für the inner drawer. The inner drawer ist aprox. 1/3 of the hight of the dividers and half the depth of the high drawer. Have a look in your other drawers: you store more air than hardware in there. The reason: the drawers are usually too high (because drawers are expensive). But flat drawers (1 to 1 1/2 inches) are extremely useful for all the tiny stuff.

1:00 Drilling holes to allow bolts to poke thru gives the drawer more room and the bolts are still accessible. 4:00 glue the block to the new floor. Then no need to stick to the drawer floor. The false floor can be easily removed by sticking some tape to the bottom and pulling it out.. Sure caulk can be scraped loose but no reason for having to do that and all the surrounding parts would have to be removed too.
