I noticed that a few owners had complained of a soft rear brake, i bled mine (2000 miles from new) and loads of air came out and the brake was instantly solid. It has a good bite now when needed.
Handy tip. Simple adjustment. May have a look at mine. My brake pedal seems very close to the engine case, which makes finding it in a hurry a challenge. Raising it a little may help. Thanks
I find exactly the same and was wondering why I had never read or heard that in any review. I was considering buying a new brake lever and taking it to a fabricator to reshape it slightly or build from scratch.
@@arthurramm8664 I went on a test ride and found the same thing. It really bugged me, I had to consciously angle my foot inwards. I can't believe that it's not mentioned in other reviews - perhaps they don't use the back brake much, I use mine a lot. It was one of many ergonomic aspects that put me off the bike. The over all utility of the enfield still has me interested though, so I'm starting to think how I would get one to be more like my old Bonnie. Apart from bleeding the brake and raising the lever, I was wondering about welding on a plate to make it more like an old school rear brake lever - larger area and further away from the engine - should be quite and easy thing to test to see if it works.
@@DirkGentley42 I have thought about taking teh bike to a cutsom shop to look at the brake pedal. Small tweak in the angles of the bends in the OEM pedal and a plate welded on would make all the difference. The existing fitting at the end of the pedal could be used as a brace for the new plate as well. Like you I am surprised that this hasn't been raised by more riders and if it had perhaps one of the makers of accessories would have produced an alternative.
First, I tried to improve my rear brake function by bleeding it, which was easy. Also easy, was rounding off the bleed-bolt head. :( Because it disn't seem to make much difference, I adjusted my rear brake lever. I kept turning that adjuster until the rear wheel noticeably began to bind and then backed the adjuster off a little, you know, until the wheel's turning seemed limited only by, I assume, the resistance of chain and sprockets. Anyway, our drive is a little gravely and ideal for the improved rear brake control. Happy days, I thought! About half an hour later, on an afternoon's ride, the bike seemed to be losing power. I stopped. Yep, the pads had been chafing and heating and expanding and chafing even more and expanding even more and getting even hotter etc... ... sizzle, steam and a locked wheel was the result. :( So, I waited for it to cool down. Then I carefully loosened off the rear brake adjuster. Carefully because I didn't want to scald my fingers. The rear brakes are now on my ever growing to-do-list. And to think I bought the bike to ride, not tinker with, hmm... :)
@@FrokieKlarth-qe3ei if you look how I adjusted mine you must make sure you have free play in the rear brake pedal,so no pressure on the adjusting rod or the brakes will bind. My brakes are perfect now. Did 300 km at weekend with wife on the back no problems at all.
Can I do this on the Bullet? I have trouble knocking the rear brake lever in right turns. Retrofitting a rear disc brake to the B5s and Classic 350, they put the lever under the pipe, and it's the lowest thing on the bike. J series is over the top of the pipe. Especally if I apply rear brake in a right turn, the lever drops another 5cm below the pipe and scrapes. I tried bleeding it and replaced the return spring. I see the Interceptor pegs have feelers. I've ground off the underside of the peg rubber on my Bullet. Maybe someone could weld feelers on the pegs? Or I should just learn to ride 😂 or trade up to an INT 650. I chased one down a hill the other day and there's no competition with a Bullet. Cheers!
@@MrMomo182 no I have have had a look my self, my B5 has rear disc and the brake lever goes under the the exhaust pipe. As you say it's the first thing to touch down on right hand bends. So we have to live with it as it is. Ride it like a gentleman not a hooligan 😆😆😆😆
@iantoy7778 😂😅 probably a good idea at my age. Well meaning people in my comments trying to teach me how to corner under power will get me wrecked if I listen to them. I'll ask my mechanic if he can put a few blobs of weld on the lever as a feeler. Cheers.
