girl i feel you about the car situation. I also just moved to a new city and am working from home and can get to essential places pretty easily so I don't feel the need to get a car right now. Plus especially second hand cars are so expensive right now and a car is just a liability so I for one am not looking forward to being a car owner so I'm content with relying on walking, bussing, and ubering :)

Hey girl, I just bought a car recently (because I absolutely needed one) and the car market rn is really bad! Personally if I didn’t need a car I would hold off on getting a car for the moment. There’s big a huge semiconductor chip shortage atm which is causing supply to be really low for both new and used cars - and demand is very high rn for both. Prices are pretty high for used cars and for both new and used it’s much harder to negotiate a good deal at a dealership. Hope this helps! 💕

My friend who works from home doesn't have a car and a lot of her friends also live in the same area so it's a short uber/lyft away. Turns out her rideshare expenses are still cheaper than if she had to pay for a car lease, auto insurance, and gas. If you have to travel around LA a lot, having a car makes more sense though because everything is so spread out unlike NYC and public transport here is quite inconvenient

Honestly when I had to work from home and spent most of my week at home I didn’t really need a car! I would say if you are only wanting a car for the weekends you’re better off doing Uber for a bit! With a car there’s gas, insurance, and depending on if you’re planning on financing it best thing is to maybe wait? it won’t be In use most of the month! Obviously I don’t know your financial situation but if you’re well off and can have that extra expense every month with no problem then I say why not? Lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

As someone who has lived in LA for 18 years now, I say I get a car. I too work from home, but there is nothing like driving to the ocean and releasing your mind for mental health. Turn your music up and let go when needed. It helped me a lot.

I totally get what you're saying. You can now take the metro train to Santa Monica Beach. The plus is not having to fight traffic or find parking when you get there. Lol 😁 But driving does give you a different sense of freedom, especially driving down the Pacific Coast Highway.

u need car for la its impossible without it. just buy something affordable u can pay off quick or used. dont lease or buy luxury car unless your buying tesla to save money on gas in the long run and way less maintenance cost

I went to LA for a weekend and I was amazed with how much I needed a car... also ubers in LA as I'm sure you know take forever to arrive, opposite of NY where you call it and you're already late. Next time I go back i'm definitely renting a car, and if I lived there I would 100% have a car. I think it'll allow you to explore the city and feel more at home there

Loving how your new place is coming together! I think if you don't NEED a car (working from home, essentials are walking distance) save the money. Just because you don't get one now doesn't mean you can't change your mind. Since I started working from home over a year ago, I definitely could get by without my car lol

Honestly, I don't think you need a car right now. I live in the Arts District so I know what it's like in l.a. Especially with gas prices up right now, if you can get by ubering and getting rides from friends (ahem @davidso), then I think you'd save a lot of money. You have a decent amount of content you can still get through finishing up your place and exploring the area around where you live. Good luck!

If you use those organization bins/foldable cubes sideways, it helps with organizing! They have clear ones where you can see. I also love the drawer organization sets!

Another option instead of getting a car would be Zipcar. At least it is available then you need it and hop onto any available car nearby and do your errands.

Definitely get a car, even a nice used one to save money. As a local, California has so many scenic locations where you could potentially film some great content by yourself or with friends since more places are opening up and the convenience of driving places and taking your time is worth it.

Welcome to LA!!! I got rid of my car right before the pandemic, and I don't miss it! No need for insurance, gas, and stress if anything breaks? FUCK yes. My situation is similar to Freesia. I live in the greater LA area, and I work full-time from home and will continue to do so post-pandemic. Honestly driving in LA gave me so much anxiety. If the pandemic didn't happen, I would absolutely say you need a car in SoCal but not anymore. Some downsides are buying groceries, large items like furniture, or going out require a little more planning or money, but these are minor inconveniences to me. If I had to get a car, I would definitely buy a used car and drive it to the ground.

A decent used car would be good in her situation. But for some of us who are car-lite, meaning I own a car but rarely use it because I plan my trips around taking the metro/subway train, convenient for me in Pasadena, since I live close to a metro station. Not needing to find parking or fight traffic is a plus for me.
