Think i might shorten them up a bit Frank. Need to repair a bit faster, lots here. But as you say, for the newbees it's probably something they like seeing. Editing takes a l o n g time too !

Hi Baz. This one's full of surprises. I've never seen an IF transformer like that. Quite a good design, this one. There's such a variety of IF transformers, the worst being those little Philips ones. I've also never come across a "couplet" before although I think I've seen one in a video. These later valve radios with PCBs always seem to be trouble, in fact anything with a early PCB is a pain in the arse. I'm just finishing up a Hacker Herald RP30 and the tracks lift off the board if you look at them sideways. Just a quick question: What temperature do you set your soldering iron at for these old circuit boards? Cheers

Yes Don, full of surprises that waste so much time. I love those IF TX's too, such a simple setup & easy to turn. Hopefully tomorrow when I plug the radio into mains they still work, without smoke. Will try put vid up this wkend IF all goes as planned. I run my iron at 340-360deg for those older boards. 380-390deg normally. 480 when doing a bit of chassis work, more that that I bring out the big gun, will be in the video. Cheers 🍻

@@techobaz55 I try to send double , so your wife also can have a piece , otherwise not fair. You know something Baz? I did not realize what an intelligent technician you are until some 6 months ago. My oh my, you are a true tv/radio and many appliances technician. Very proud of you! More National Pies coming your way with your videos. Take care and stay well. Cheers

I had similar IF cans to those on my National 60 Special I repaired recently - but mine had mica disease so I had to drill out the mica caps and put small ceramics in instead. This hobby does have its disappointments to be sure, such as your cap can here, and the radio I got going perfectly, then looked at it the following morning to find the dial plate cracked. How? No idea. But I know how gutted you will be over that can.

Yes, if it can happen it will ! Ruined my day, was cruising so well too ! I'm not familiar with the National 60, will check that out. Cheers

Very unusual IF alignment slugs. I don't think in all my years in electronics I have seen it done that way. Always saw internal to the coil. I saw one of those Centralab PC156 couplets on Ebay if you wanted to go totally original but it is a bit pricey at $19.00.

Thanks for this, think I'll just stick with the resistor/cap mod. I really like those IF TX 's as well. Cheers

My ultrasonic is small--got it for knobs and small parts--but once you get it, you'll wonder how you lived without one.

Yes, it's on my list for a "Next" purchase. I reckon a 3-6Ltr size would be ok, your suggestion ? Cheers

Mab melt a hot glue stick ontop of bent can and give it a tug ... or a little suction cap 🤔🤔
